    I am glad that you made this video...I have the same problem of being a renter but wanting to have a mini-split...thank you for the information :)

    Good video! This answered many questions I had. Planning on getting one an install temporarily for 1-2 years. Our 50 year old furnace is now unsafe to run, though it does sill "work". So I'll spend the ~$700 now to get one of these and then save for a few years to eventually replace the gas unit. I'll then renovate the garage and move this out there and install permanently..

    Excellent install idea. I'm going to use this method for my Phoenix apartment. Only difference is my balcony has no drain, so I'm feeding the drain back into my room - into my humidifier (which is always on) to keep my room humidity stable.

    I have a MH with all windows on one wall, I've been trying to rack my brain how we could install one and I think this method will work great! Thanks for the idea!

    I agree with the comment about the window being a fire exit. Probably should have put the whole wood panel on a piano hinge somehow. Also, you should have left the suction line connected until you opened the high and low side valves. When you disconnected the suction line with no pressure in the system you probably let a small amount of air into the lines. It's much better to let out a little refrigerant than to let in air.

    When I saw the inside of the house, I assumed Miami, but as soon as I saw the rocks and bougainvillea, it was like oh, a fellow valley resident.. lol
    Also, how did the heat pump work out for you in the desert summers? I feel like when it's 110+ its outside the usual working params of a heat pump.

    This is an idea I had. I have a room I want separate from central air so room can be climate controlled on its own. There are multiple windows. Why ruin a wall if I dont have to cut a hole since a window is access for vent tubes. WHY can't I find a year round inverter type window AC with heat that has some sort of heater defrost so I can run cooling and dehumidifier in Winter? Im in Tennessee. It will turn cold eventually here, but there can be constant temperature swings even in December through March where it's 15°F at night or 60°F and raining (high humidity) by day. I hate warm weather plus lousy humidity. I want this room to stay around 60°F - 66°F with humidity around 40%. I can achieve this with the inverter straight cool window AC unit I have. Of course I can't use it in December through February when its below 32°F (won't the unit frost freeze up? No defrost is present. This room will stay warm year round. I want to be able to run cool AC to drop room to 68 in Winter if it's 40 to 55, probably humid, outside house, so opening a window is not an option). This room is in a house that will have central air running heat all Winter probably way too warm for my tolerance. I don't love those monstrosity mininsplit wall mount vent boxes. A window unit is more minimalist in my case. I wish I could find what I want!
    But that idea for using the window here for the mini split is awesome! If I can't find something like I want, that is an option.
    Im also thinking of using my existing central air vent by separating it onto its own ductwork to its own climate control unit. I don't want a mini split vent box on the wall if I don't need it.

    Any plans to hook this up to solar at some point?

    • @davinsrandom3142
      @davinsrandom3142  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm trying to. New house has Solar but it's also tied into the grid. I have to contact the installer to see if a breaker can be installed before the main panel.

    You shouldn't need to use any type of sealant on a compression fitting. You can use a dab of 3-n-1 oil but I would not use any sealant on flare/compression nuts.

  • @perrymckinney6146

    You wouldn’t be permitted to do this in my area. This creates an eyesore where the window would be. Nothing is permitted to cover or stick out of any window. Rentals are inspected twice a year, this would have to be removed or an eviction will result.

      @@perrymckinney6146 TBF, if you owned a home or apts, you also would want things properly taken care of. As it will cost you in the long run after your tenants are gone or if the town has a problem of anything done. The owner is at fault not the renters.

    on 220 v it would cost the ½ on your electric bill

    • @davinsrandom3142
      @davinsrandom3142  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorta. On the new house it uses 6 amps at 110 and my 1 ton 220v uses 3.7 sustained.

      No, that's not how electricity works and the power company are not complete idiots. You pay for kilowatt hours, not for ampere hours.

    Just get a portable air con

    • @kajtece3711
      @kajtece3711 หลายเดือนก่อน

      WRONG. Portables are incredibly noisy and use 3 times more power than a good window unit - which means SIX TIMES FUCKING MORE power than a mini split... It should be illegal to make anyone suffer with the unfit-for-purpose atrocity of a portable AC... and in fact, in late 2024 they were just recently banned at the federal level and are now all removed from store shelves! ❤
