So many versions of Sofas #1 & #2. This was with Mark Volman (aka Flo, short for "Phlorescent Leech") and Howard Kalyn (aka Eddie). They were under contract as The Turtles, so they adopted the Flo and Eddie monikers for contractual reasons, or so the story goes.
This song is god singing to his sofa as he comes back from creating the universe. The “Eddie are you kidding me?” part is in reference to another bit. What you need to understand is many Zappa songs that you may listen to alone were actually played and recorded in groups without breaks with one song simply segueing into another. So much is live and often lyrics connect with jokes and lyrics in other songs played that night. So you won’t necessarily understand everything in the lyrics until you know the conceptual continuity and even then you might never get it.
For context, this was the gig where Zappa ended up falling/being pushed from the stage causing him injury. It ended the tour and left Zappa unable to tour for a while. The gig before was in Montreux, Switzerland which is the subject of "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple. Zappa and band lost all of their instruments in the fire and had to use equipment they hadn't used before to play this set.
I have a similar version on bootleg. But this was better in all respects! There are references back and forwards to parts of different albums like Fillmore East, Just another band from L.A. and Joe's garage. But you will still be as confused, I guess. A short-cut (especially for us who has English as second language) is to treat the lyrics just as sounds from just another instrument. Then you add the lyrics/stupidnesses later as spices upon after taste.
Dude had 1200 songs in his life time and just as many since... Try again with the "pattern" after listening to more than a dozen tracks... That being said, the Sofa trilogy is an important piece to the conceptual continuity in his work...
