Shockat was the chair of “Moos-lim Engagement and Development” in Leicester. “MEND” stated that the 2017 Westminster event was not terry-ism.
His brother is the founder of the “Friends of I’ll-Ask-Her” in Leicester. “Friends of I’ll-Ask-Her” are an affiliate of the “Moos-lim Brudder-hood”.
Instead of looking at why a safe seat fell?
Ashworth prefers to blame voters? What a child!
This is the problem with our political system. Politics take the voters for granted and when the voters raise concerns or vote in a different way, there’s an uproar as to how can this happen…. Independent, reform, green etc are all symptoms of the same cause. Politics that doesn’t work for the average person.

I campaigned with Leanne Mohamad in Ilford. She only lost by 500 - with over 15,000 votes. I’d love to see Shockat sit down with her to explore actions and ideas to take this movement forward

Also Jess Phillips majority was decimated from 10,600+ to just over 700 Brilliant result from Jody McIntyre and he is now setting up community outreach in the constituency

The thing is though its isn't just him, a number of Labour candidates who lost their seats, or nearly did so, reacted as if they had a right to win and if the voters didn't agree that's just bad voters, very anti-democratic. There is a very anti-democratic attitude among certain politicians in the Labour Party, that is quite scary. The Tories can get a bit like this but they just tend to quietly retreat to spend more time with their money and various lucrative directorship sinecures.

I live in Leicester South and can genuinely say Shockat is a wonderfully humble person, no airs and graces, elected by the community for the community. He is a trail blazer in showing the children in our community that if you work hard anything is possible. From someone who has voted Jon A all my voting life, i was supremely disappointed with his words and actions post October. He took us for granted. For the first time our community followed through on their words with their actions. Something he didnt believe we would! 🥳

Thanks Owen, another great interview. How refreshing to see Shockat Adam acting with dignity unlike the childish behaviour of Ashworth. Great when he said he didn't need to go on national media to defend himself against Ashworth's pathetic accusations and he had more important work to be carrying on with.

What a nice bloke brains and compassion perfect combination. He'll be a great MP for his constituency but I just hope Labour don't try to obstruct him in his work in Parliament although I'm sure he'll deal with it.
What an impressive but modest representative for his constituents. Westminster’s got at least one outstanding MP in Shockat. The Independents together with the Greens, SNP and a handful of Labour MPs are the main source of hope in this Parliament.

Exactly. I used to live in Hunt's constituency, there was a massive disconnect between his words locally and his actins in parliament. I had to tell people on local groups several times not to listen to his words but to review his record and the same should apply to every MP.
Brilliant interview. He has such integrity - almost gives you hope! We cannot underestimate the significance of this disruption to the 2-party monoploy. It is all up for grabs and we have shown that we can organise to create the change we want to see.

Why independent and not Green? In the party she can only increase her chances of re-election. Fighting as an independent, she and the Greens would split the progressive vote. Everyone seems to be waiting for some brand new party to emerge, but there are the Greens sitting readymade and waiting.

In other news: I hear David Lammy did not, I repeat did not, deliver the arrest warrant from the ICC on his visit to Isreal today. Would you believe.
It's worse. The Tories filed a legal challenge against the ICC saying it didn't have jurisdiction. Labour said they would drop the case. Today it was announced in the Israeli press that the government has decided to continue with it.
