The Crow (1994) is one of my favourite films ever, one I've always wanted to see in cinemas. I was able to this year for the 30th Anniversary and made for one of my best movie going experiences ever. Hard pass on The Crow (2024).
I caught the original in the theater upon release as well as the 30th anniversary release. It was amazing to see the remastered original on the big screen again. I actually saw details that I missed even watching it on DVD and streaming over the years. A masterpiece.
At this point The Crow should be animated. There not looking at the main comic of James O'barr Crow so much. It's better if an animated studio should animate its comic look like Spawn did.
Or just leave the story alone and rather adapt something else that has potential and a similar story to Eric Draven's yet would require modern CGI to work, like "The Darkness" which is also co-written by Garth Ennis whose works recently proofed quite the success as adaptations, mainly The Boys and Preacher.
Don't believe everything your "movie influencers" say. My prediction is: Megalopolis is gonna be the sleeper hit of the year. They said Oppenheimer was soooo good because Nolan Directed it. The only thing he filmed with any action was the explosion. Anybody could set up cameras. I watched 2 hours of it and was bored beyond belief & couldn't even finish it.
I agree with most of what you said except Bills and Twigs performance, imo Bill carried this film hard,Twigs tho…yikes, from the first scene where she’s supposedly “panicking” those line deliveries could’ve used a few more takes.
The endearing quality that Eric & Shelly had in 94’ was that they were tragic victims. This iteration seems dead set on really making unlikeable characters be the heart of what is a toxic love story, placating to that arrested development found in trauma bonding drug addicts who’re locked in that early teen view of love. Just unfortunate, they should’ve kept Eric & Shelly , tragic victims.
That is the story though like it or not. It’s more tragic that two addicts who are trying to get clean fall in love and try to make it work. Are you saying that people in addiction can’t? The original story of the one who wrote the comic did go through most of what they went through in this movie minus the gang. His mom who was always drunk, the addiction, him finding her and it being the thing that helps him and such. Like the Vince Vaughn Psycho, this movie did not need to exist. I have not read the comics, so I cannot speak to the actual canon of The Crow, but Draven 1994 (Brandon RIP) wasn't supposed to be broken, he was happy and warm in his little hideaway apartment filled with gentle back lighting in a broken world. The look of Eric was SO off and I had a bad feeling ever since. They missed the entire point of the initial relationship. A couple really cool additional ideas in this movie of possible mythos mixed in total sht.
Stairway to heaven did way better then this film and actually tried to do something different but yet tried to expand on the lore this idk what this one was trying to to do
Thank you for watching this on behalf of ALL of us who refuse to watch it because the blatant disrespect to not only Brandon Lee, but The Crow itself being a perfect movie that shouldn't be touched
I love the first Crow, a total classic. I worked behind the scenes on a couple of the sequels. I never really liked City of Angels, Wicked Prayer is terrible, but Salvation is a decent sequel, with a good cast and good director. I haven't seen this yet, but not expecting much.
Skarsgard and the female lead just look bored af in all the clips I’ve seen. I adore the original, and nothing could make me pay money to see this take… but, how do they expect people to be interested if they can’t even perform well enough to make it seem like they are 🤷🏻♀️
Here we go comparing this to the original once more when it's a reimagining that's people's problem.😂 Don't let people change your opinion, go in, and don't even think about the 90s movie. It's a fine movie. Most of these kids are freaking out because I want to identify the old one. If they change the name and then call it something else, people would be fine with it. He's also complaining about the tattoos but he forget it's a reimagining 😂 and eric never had a guitar or a certain look, and they changed it for the 90s film. But they didn't complain about that when it came out. I paid 9 bucks a ticket to watch this. Don't let people like this sway you.
Bro but you tryin to sway ppl opinion I love the original 94 one but I went into open minded and at best it’s a mid movie glad you like but opinion are subjective not everyone gonna run a praise this movie jus not everyone gonna say it’s bad to me the pace was trash but again glad you like but also don’t try to sway ppls opinions as well smh
Yes I would agree incredible imagery Unlimited potential Love the Gore The In between Very slow paced 2 hours & u feel every single minute But I kept saying the / this crow is a B* out of all the other crows
I'm actually shocked and gobsmacked about how many critics and people are hating on this movie, but I guess at the same time, I was expecting it anyway. I actually think that the 1994 movie is bad and the new one is a good movie and actually way better than the original and i will explain my reasons later. Now, this will make alot of fans angry but one of the main reasons they are hating on this movie is because they think that it's nothing like the original 1994 version and that it's an insult to Brandon Lee's legacy. The original is just too overhyped, and most people only love it so much because of Brandon Lee's tragic death, and that somehow makes it special with some people even calling it the greatest movie of all time. If Brandon Lee had never died while making the movie, it would not be overhyped or popular as it is now. Some people would probably not even care about it. Brandon dying somehow made this movie holy and untouchable. People need to move on from the past and see the new one as its own movie instead of comparing it to the original. Just try to watch it with a clear mind. I'm not saying that you have to like it. That's your own opinion. I surprisingly loved all the things people hated about this, and I actually think the old one has the problems people are saying the new one has. Reasons why The Crow (1994) is bad. The movie felt bland and boring The acting was quite bad, and there were a lot of cringe and cheesy moments. The villains were forgettable There wasn't much action, and even if there was, it wasn't good We don't really know anything about Eric or Shelly and what their relationship was like when they were together. All we know is that they get killed, and he gets resurrected to get revenge. Why did it take 1 whole year for Eric to get resurrected Why does nobody really seem to care that a man just came back from the dead after a whole year. It's like they found out and didn't really care. They didn't question what the hell was going on and just went along with everything as if it's normal. The humour wasn't funny and didn't work for me. How does someone come out of their grave after 1 year looking so fine? We see him kissing Shellys spirit at the end, but how the hell does he get himself back into his grave. did he bury himself back into the grave, or did somebody do it for him. Now people are going to say that the new one has some of these problems as well, and yes, it probably does, but the 1994 version is way worse. All I'm saying is that The Crow (1994) is definitely not a masterpiece and is not as good as people praise it to be. The new one isn't a masterpiece either, but it is still way better.
Time to get rid of most of the main stays in Hollywood. The people who have been there making movies for the past few decades, they are shit and do not know how to make a movie. Time to infuse some new life into Hollywood and being in some of these independents out here who are making independent and short films who blow away these big studio films. They know what audiences want to see and how to write a story. These people who have been there clearly don’t and haven’t for a very long time. All they make now is quick money grabs.
5:46 the whole tattoo design was based on lil peep which Ik isn’t everyone’s jam but I am glad they based it on an icon that people love and wasn’t just to be edgy I just wish they had made it more apparent that that was the inspiration
@@masterofallgoons it isn’t only thing they have that came from the source material is that white horse that get caught In bard wire and that’s the opening to the movie every thing else nothing to do with the source material. The narrative is the same just a more modern message about the people with power being those who have control of wealth and fame Not the busnessman who works his ass off 70 hours a week to create jobs for the avg man we're talking people who shuffle money around have influence over people though blackmail and extotion and murrrrder. I liked the movie's new theme really did like Bill as Eric, Brandon obviosuly for a diffrent era the 90s was coming though the "PUNK" period the movies targeting the People on the streets the thugs and gangs as the bad guys dealing drugs but remeber who pays those guys up the food chain. Mark Decosta also played Eric in the CROW TV series. then you have the spin offs of other avengin angels in total with Bill it makes 6 of them. not sure if they ever did a anime they should. I am seeing a lot of dislike because again OLDER people reviewing movies aimed at younger audiance calling back a movie from the 90s 20 year olds are not going to watch things from before 2010 now. do you go back and watch black and white movies' from the 50s ? Bill was playing an innocent introvert with some trauma issues. it was... very gorey at the ballroom scene pretty epic. he reminds me of DMC dante (the ninjatheory capcom game) the whole meeting and relatable part of it is like your post malone era grunge types Like LA culture i guess this was for them
Just saw the movie and enjoyed it a lot. It has a 66% audience score on rotten tomatoes despite being review bombed by people who have wanted the movie to fail since it was announced. If you are on the fence, go see it and decide for yourself.
What's up Chris, kind of surprised that you'd watch this movie I watch a lot of your videos I didn't think you could do something like that but to each his own I guess. Let's not beat around the bush ,assuming they made the crow in 1994 with any other actor that wasn't Brandon Lee I guarantee you that movie wouldn't of been successful .the only reason it was is because of Brandon Lee and there will never ever be another. simple as that !
The original was garbage compared to the comics period. The love story you see in a flashback that is less than three minutes is not it. You see him as the crow from the beginning with absolutely no reason as to why and isn’t explained except the quote in the very beginning of the movie. You never see anything that is in the in between most of what made the graphic novel so damn good was not in the original. Me I was a fan of the graphic novel long before the original movie though. Like the original but yall are lying plain and simple
Bro what comic did you read honestly cause nothing of the source material in the comics he was already the crow and that was the first chapter of the book and again they only gave you flashbacks in the comics as well they already dead what comic are you reading just want to know

I'm still curious about what the Nick Cave script for the Crow would have been like. I don't know if he ever actually wrote anything, but he was attached at one point.
He wrote the script to the movie lawless.
@@rokaanalzeer7148 he did. That one was kind of butchered by the Weinsteins .. but his script for The Proposition is brilliant.
@@masterofallgoonsThe Proposition is a fantastic film! I love Nick Cave. Have seen him live many times. Wished he still was interested in writing screenplays but he seems to be done with that.
@@jonathanaldecoa1099 - yeah, I guess he is. His personal tragedies might have something to do with that, but I also think that he just had a bad experience with Lawless. I wish he'd write for film more too. The Proposition really is something special.
I love The Crow 94 and didn't have high hopes at all but I watched this yesterday and I gotta say....
It's a slow burn and the ending was lack luster. Yeah it's no masterpiece but it wasn't awful. If it was made to be a 1 to 1 remake of 94, fans would find something to complain about but if it's not like 94 and they do something different with the story, fans will complain.
Shame because overall, it was pretty decent
Amber Midthunder as the comic tile character in an adaptation of The Crow: Flesh and Blood please.
Either her or Melissa Barrera
I just got done watching a movie and I thought it was great I'm a fan of the first one and I truly think that Brandon Lee would have liked it and I do know what I'm talking about so don't even start with the comments😂 It got hate for no reason and no reason at all first Standalone movie I think it would have been just as good
its not as bad as people are saying. Its not a patch on the original but its alright.
I m make a fan film of the crow base on the 89 comics
Brandon lee is the best. Eric because he is the crow I have done Eric a few times for Halloween this year I'm dressing up as him again for Brandon rip and his father Bruce
Where's the Hair? lol even the comic he has Rocker/Metal hair.
The look of Eric was SO off and I had a bad feeling ever since. They missed the entire point of the initial relationship.
A couple really cool additional ideas in this movie of possible mythos mixed in total sht.
So which one did a better homage this movie or the Stairway to Heaven tv show?
Stairway to heaven did way better then this film and actually tried to do something different but yet tried to expand on the lore this idk what this one was trying to to do
There are some movies that are so good, they shouldn't be remade or readapted. They got it right the first time, leave it alone.
Chris, To be honest.
I don’t think I will see this in cinemas but maybe when it comes to 4K Disc or Streaming
I was happy to see that there are a few things in this movie that were crucial in the comics that aren't in the old movie
I agree with everything u said but unfortunately it's was doom to failed
Thank you for watching this on behalf of ALL of us who refuse to watch it because the blatant disrespect to not only Brandon Lee, but The Crow itself being a perfect movie that shouldn't be touched
@Chris Stanley I think they should've just made a new Crow story
It's funny that the lead actor is Swedish and Marian's actor is Finnish.
Why is that so funny?
I have seen the original. I wont watch any other "version" of it.
Times change. It's not the 1990s...
@jonathansessoms3507 bro, I didn't read your comment. My bad 😂
Skarsgard was terribly cast
Skarsgard was a terrible casting choice.
Yes I would agree incredible imagery
Unlimited potential
Love the Gore
The In between
Very slow paced 2 hours & u feel every single minute
But I kept saying the / this crow is a B* out of all the other crows
I just saw it its fine movie
But the villain was weak to easy
Good review 👍 movie sucks gen z bull shit
The movie felt bland and boring
The acting was quite bad, and there were a lot of cringe and cheesy moments.
The villains were forgettable
There wasn't much action, and even if there was, it wasn't good
We don't really know anything about Eric or Shelly and what their relationship was like when they were together. All we know is that they get killed, and he gets resurrected to get revenge.
Why did it take 1 whole year for Eric to get resurrected
Why does nobody really seem to care that a man just came back from the dead after a whole year.
Lil who ?

Seeing it Tuesday... I have low expectations about everything but the action/choreography..
I think it’s much more faithful to source and Eric wasn’t charismatic in it either. Js
Haven't seen it.. but it doesn't sound remotely faithful to the source
@@masterofallgoons it isn’t only thing they have that came from the source material is that white horse that get caught In bard wire and that’s the opening to the movie every thing else nothing to do with the source material. I just think ppl sayin it has that it stuck with the source material is either jus talking or never read source material and want ppl to agree with there opinion
I couldn't bring myself to go see it. Meh.
It was horrible. They should do the original graphic novel ..panel for panel.
FKA Twig is not a SoundCloud rapper. She's a British singer
Hard pass from the trailer alone!
My question is who would pay to see this blasphemy of a movie???
The narrative is the same
just a more modern message about the people with power being those who have control of wealth and fame
Not the busnessman who works his ass off 70 hours a week to create jobs for the avg man
we're talking people who shuffle money around have influence over people though blackmail and extotion and murrrrder.
I am seeing a lot of dislike because again OLDER people reviewing movies aimed at younger audiance calling back a movie from the 90s
20 year olds are not going to watch things from before 2010 now.
do you go back and watch black and white movies' from the 50s ?
Bill was playing an innocent introvert with some trauma issues.
it was... very gorey at the ballroom scene pretty epic.
he reminds me of DMC dante (the ninjatheory capcom game)
the whole meeting and relatable part of it is like your post malone era grunge types
Like LA culture i guess this was for them
"Do you watch black and white movies from the 50s?" Uhhh... yeah dude. Anyone who's an actual film fan watches movies from all eras.
Just saw the movie and enjoyed it a lot. It has a 66% audience score on rotten tomatoes despite being review bombed by people who have wanted the movie to fail since it was announced. If you are on the fence, go see it and decide for yourself.
Lol who the fuck green lit this shit??? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
What's up Chris, kind of surprised that you'd watch this movie I watch a lot of your videos I didn't think you could do something like that but to each his own I guess. Let's not beat around the bush ,assuming they made the crow in 1994 with any other actor that wasn't Brandon Lee I guarantee you that movie wouldn't of been successful .the only reason it was is because of Brandon Lee and there will never ever be another. simple as that !
they should have went with thr Jason Mamoa or even Zach Efron idea, would have worked
I really wish Brandon Lee could come back from the dead and bury this movie
This doesn’t even resemble the character.
I refuse to watch this trash it's an insult to Brandon Lee
So it's garbage as expected
Hilarity insuse...😂
The original was garbage compared to the comics period. The love story you see in a flashback that is less than three minutes is not it. You see him as the crow from the beginning with absolutely no reason as to why and isn’t explained except the quote in the very beginning of the movie. You never see anything that is in the in between most of what made the graphic novel so damn good was not in the original. Me I was a fan of the graphic novel long before the original movie though. Like the original but yall are lying plain and simple
Bro what comic did you read honestly cause nothing of the source material in the comics he was already the crow and that was the first chapter of the book and again they only gave you flashbacks in the comics as well they already dead what comic are you reading just want to know
First comment!
Sooo.. watch the og movie then this?! Got it! 🫡
