They better not REMAKE this movie! I hear talks they want to remake this! That is a slap in the face to the Lee Family! This is Brandon Lee's movie and his alone! I remember watching this but I couldn't understand it but I got the comic book and then I got it! Also this inspired the Dark Knight and the make up Brandon Lee had inspired The Heath Ledger's Joker, Its a love story! Love Hate Forgiveness, Revenge. Justice! I also heard that actor who played Top Dollar had nightmares about certain scenes in the movie!

The first sequel wasn't awful but it was disappointing, but the sequels after that were shit. I think there's 4 now, maybe even 5.
There was a television adaptation on the Sci Fi channel. It ran for one season and was a little closer to the comic book. From what I have heard, it is worth checking unlike the squeals that followed this movie.

I saw this in the theater, quite underaged.
I don't really know why we even tried to go see it since we didn't really try to get into rated R movies... our ride dropped us off, so we'd be stranded at the theater for a few hours if we failed...
We went in and asked for tickets. The ticket counter guy said "yeah? are you 18?"
We said "...yes..."
He said "No you're not. This movie is really awesome though, you definitely need to see it, so go ahead!"

The last part was absolutely beautiful. The Crow is one of the finest films ever made. Eric is different from most superheroes. An undead vigilante who simply wants to avenge the deaths of himself and his sweetheart. Brandon Lee's accidental death is arguably the saddest celebrity death there is, and he had a lot to give. Some say he had even more potential than his father. RIP Brandon.....you are dearly missed.

interesting to note, also, that 1993-1994 was a pretty devastating time to be a teenager. Brandon Lee died during the making of this film, in 1993. Lee dies in March, and in October of that same year, River Phoenix died. The following year, Kurt Kobain dies.
The effect that had on people...it must have been absolutely devastating to see so many of your idols wiped out. I fell outside the timeframe of being a teenager, at that time. But I do remember learning of both Lee, Phoenix and Kobain's deaths.
People draw comparison between Lee and Heath Ledger's deaths. Similarly, both deeply delved into their roles, going to places within their psyche's they might never have gone. Both committed themselves to their roles, and wore similar make-up designs. Also, Ledger, tho never stated, believed the Joker would apply the make-up himself. The chalky residue is on his hands, tho we never see him applying the face paint.
In the Crow, we see Draven applying the harlequin facepaint, even if this was done after Lee's death with a double.
And lastly, both died at the same age, 28 years old.
The impact of both of their passings is immeasurable.
The amount of people born around that time named "Brandon" or "Kurt" is testament to this, myself included!

An underrated movie. I like War Zone and The Crow.
It is a truly remarkable film and I think it's underrated because many comic book movie fans these days prefer Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Avengers, Punisher etc. The Crow should be right up there with those heroes.
Dredd is definitely up there with Punisher War Zone, but neither beat the Crow I think.
I think the Darkest Comic Book movie has to go to Watchmen, if you haven't seen it definitely see it, but there are 3 versions of that film : Theatrical Cut, Director's Cut and Ultimate Cut. If you read the novel than definitely watch the Ultimate Cut but if you haven't read the novel watch the Directors Cut, but definitely don't watch Theatrical Cut it not on par with the other 2versions of this film and quite frankly disappointed many fans including myself. The Crow is up there with being one of the darkest comic book movies ever made but Watchmen for me is the darkest one out of two.
13:08 I went to comic-con on Saturday as The Crow and I was the only one. Most were either Star Wars characters, Deadpool or Harley Quinn, but the whole time I was there, that South Park clip would pop into my head XD

Most well known channels are full of retards, their content is retarded and retards subcribed to them. This is one of the many great hidden channel that very little people know of, it's small but it has good content.

This Movie was great! I saw it in the theatre, knowing Lee was dead. Still I couldn't tell when Brandon was on screen or his double was on screen. Amazing soundtrack, great grungy style. great for Halloween, or parties. one of the best movies of the 90s.

the crow is a timeless , romantic gothic poem of cinema ... each viewing reveals another layer ... when the film ends one is sad and uplifted , as time goes on I can only see its reputation increasing , thank to all concerned ... r i p Brandon , no amount of remakes will ever come close to you in this movie

I love The Crow! Without question, one of my all time favorite movies. I love that scene when Eric drains the morphine from Darla then gives her that lil' nod to go and find Sarah. Thank you and continue to rest in peace, Mr. Brandon Lee.
Im a huge Bruce and Brandon Lee fan. Still am. I remember Brandon’s death was the first celebrity death that really rocked me. Brandon was so talented and seemed poised to transcend his father in area of film and it was tragic when he was killed. On set no less. The Crow still has a lot of emotional resonance with me and I agree that it can be difficult to watch. RIP Brandon.
Brandon was more of an actor. His dad was a superstar. The crow was actually his best acting job. His other movies were just action.
Watched it today for the first time. And except for Brandon Lee and what happened, I knew nothing about this movie. I LOVE this movie! It really surprisedme. Brandon Lee was amazing, and that score is so beautiful! Amazing!

1993 was the height of popularity for Grunge and Industrial music. Brandon Lee looked like he could have been the lead singer of Pearl Jam during this time.

although i love the book version, which was a beyyautiful work of graphic novel poetry, everything about this movie just tugs at ur heart, from the action packed gun fights, to the crusader esk redeemer aspect of erics character, and u never quite fall on either side of the dream like feeling u get from watching brandon as the character to seeing the character become brandon, as if u dont quite give in to forgetting it is brandons beautiful posthumous performance, but it doesnt suck u away from the movie, it almost adds to the lore like an alchemy, its a marvel of not just movies but of lifes heart
My favorite part is when he's putting on the makeup and when he meets the cop in his apartment. So much emotion put in those 2 particular scenes. I can't help but relate to his flurry of emotions. Brilliant movie and review

Just watched this, yet again( for the 50th time I think by this time!) still amazing and looks and sounds great. Brandon is superb in it and it was a real shame. If u didn't know he died you would never tell from watching it.

This remains the answer to my favorite film of all time. I have seen it 100+ times and I hope to watch it 100 more before I pass (I am 47 now). This will never be my answer to the greatest film ever done as I also love the cinema and despite my love for it I can see all it faults.... but despite coming to really really love the films in my OWN top 20 or top 25 there is a wide wide gap between #2 and this my favorite film of all time. An yes I mourn Brandon every time I see it, every time I think of the films he could of been in (was said the brothers would of cast him in the Matrix) and all the genre's he would of been so good in (like his dad but less so in Brandon's case as Bruce was a phenom). Thanks for this being on your reviews so long ago Mr Harper.
I met James O'Barr a few times back in the 90's. Hes a good guy he actually sat and talked with me for awhile. He didn't mind it, or act like I was taking time away from his day. Im glad hes attached to the reboot.

Just rewatched for the first time in a while last night. Always forget how great it is. My wife had never before seen it, she loved it. And she’s also sad Brandon Lee does young. Really is a pitty. He was so good in this. Always liked this movie. Rip man

I saw "The Crow" in theaters when it first came out. I was about 14... I remember having a hard time seeing the screen, and having to wipe my eyes several times during the movie because of crying over Brandon's death... He (along with his father) was truly one of my biggest childhood heroes.
my friend is a huge fan of this but ive never seen it.. dunno why. but it is unbelievable to know all those dialogue pieces at the outro were said in the movies.. eerie and so sad. felt like crying even without ever seeing this or any of his movies.
One of my favorite comic book/graphic novel screen adaptations. It's truly a tragic film both fictionally,and in real life, but the final result is a memorable piece of film, which I hope audiences today will watch, and appreciate. 16:33 of this video always gets to me in the movie, as it feels like an onscreen tribute to Brandon, and has a eerie quality given the circumstances surrounding the film. I've always felt like that moment in the film is like a little pause to remember Brandon and his contribution to the film, and it's chilling to say the least.
Those last ten seconds or so almost put tears in my eyes. Wonderful review, Oliver! This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen, and Revell's music is so powerfully heartfelt. "The Crow" is a spectacular, awe-inspiring movie, but even with that in mind, it isn't one I revisit a lot. It's been a few years since I last saw it, but I will defend it's remarkable artistry and emotionally powerful qualities to the end. Brandon Lee put on possibly the most beautifully human performance I have ever seen.
It's strange but I always see parts and mannerisms of Brandon Lee's Crow in Heath Ledgers Joker, it's hard to pinpoint but there's just certain subtle similarities in both performances.

The scene where Joker walks in on the mob is a direct tribute to the scene Eric Draven walks in on the mob. Look it up. Same angles, same manneurisms, same expression.

The Crow is Tim Burton's wet dream
Burton can only wish to make something as gritty as this. Burton would do things like having the main character become friends with an old cobbler who sings folk songs and lives down the road for no real reason.

I caught this movie on tape when I was about ten years old and became obsessed with it. I remember running home to watch it every day after school for a while. As an adult it's more difficult to watch knowing that Brandon died while shooting, but it's nice to remember.
The Crow was favorite movie when I was in high school, I watched it a lot back then. I still like it now, but its true that when I was in high school I was pretty much in a deep depression so the dark atmosphere spoke to me a lot more back then. Now my favorite movies are the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I esp. loved Captain America The Winter Soldier. But The Crow is still an amazing movie, def. up there in my top ten favorite movies. Yeah I can only imagine what Brandon Lee would've gone onto had he lived, I'm sure he would've had an amazing career.
I love this movie. I bought the CD soundtrack on the way home from the theater opening night. I still listen to the album, it's a snapshot of the 90s, excellent music.

I just watched this movie yesterday and I’m still blown away. It had so much emotional depth.
This came out when I was three. So of course, i couldn’t watch it then.
When I was thirteen, my grandad saw a marathon on tv of one of the sequels and said to never watch those movies... I get it to him as a religious man, the joke and the gothic premise was too dark for him. He saw it as demonic. But damn, as a man who loved movies, I feel like he’d actually loved it. It’s such a beautiful movie. Easily in my top 5, if not top 3. I’m going to be watching this a good bit more this summer.
Note here to something you said about multiple rewatchings being just for the style... no. I tend to gravitate towards emotional stories. I rewatch emotionally heavy films a good bit. It’s just how I deal with life. This one is worth every rewatch for its emotional content.
Sad that Michael Massee's obituaries had titles like "the man who accidentally killed Brandon Lee." Bad enough that he had to live with the memory of pulling that trigger, but to then have that stigma after his own death is just wrong. I realise that it was an accident, but I wish there had been some sort of accountability with regards to the negligence of the prop/armoury departments.
That dude went to his grave feeling guilty over brandon. Wasn't his fault but he carried that weight the rest of his life.

He would’ve been a great Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat as well. He had so much potential to be more than just a martial arts guy too. Life is so unfair.

One of my top movies of all time. Love it. The shootout in the boardroom is spectacular and the closing scene with Shelley always chokes me up. We watch this every single October 30th.

I remember going to see this at the cinema. To this day it is still my favourite "comicbook" movie. Also, it is responsible for my two favourite albums from a movie, the soundtrack and the original score. The original music in this film is brilliant, but the fact that the soundtrack had Stone Temple Pilots, The Cure, Machines of Loving Grace, Rage Against the Machine, The Rollins Band, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Helmet & Pantera made it a compilation album of my 90s.
Why would you remake the crow? A movie that PERFECTLY captures a slice of history? The Crow is the Nineties, wrapped up in movie form. People watch it and get instantly transported to the age they were when they saw it. How can a remake do those things? Those are the things that make The Crow special
I was 14 (now 35)when I watched this film. Very entertaining in terms of visual, yes it's a downer film. But what doesn't break us, makes us stronger right? And thanks for this great review, it brought back some great memories.
This is totally beautifully put together... This movie has a very special meaning for me.. love everything about it Inc storyline to visuals... I believe only people who actuality know ME deep down will understand the significance of this movie upon me and my soul...
Another movie I was fortunate enough to see in the theater when I was in high school. What an amazing experience. Went with my best friend, his dad and my brother and it was such a great time. Here's hoping they don't mess up the remake/reboot that they're making.

I don't think you can do the crow better than the original film did it. It was done at just the right time where they couldn't rely on digital effects and everything was done with enough practical effects to make it perfectly gritty. It's the perfect 90s film and encapsulates what it was like to be young in the 90s perfectly.
It's so sad, Brandon Lee could have been a massive star after The Crow. He shows a lot of emotion in his acting, looks very convincing in the action scenes and was a good looking guy too.
It's a classic movie which any fan of action should check out.
I get really sad when I see or think about Brandon Lee because you really wanted to see what else he had to give and offer had he not tragically gotten killed. He was a really handsome guy with strong charisma. He also really athletic, could move, and was thus, really believable in action scenes. Plus, unlike other martial arts stars of his era such as Steven Seagal, Brandon could actually act. The Crow, was a tell-tale example of this, since it was a movie that called for him to be dramatic and theatrical above just being there to beat up on bad guys and provide action.

Agreed on the film - it's a great movie but not one I seek out more than once or twice a year. It showed that Alex Proyas would deliver something amazing afterwards, which of course was the amazing Dark City. Well done once again!
