Brandon Lee will ALWAYS have the last laugh when it comes to failed sequels and this 'remake'. Brandon Lee was/is MASTERFUL as The Crow/Eric Draven. A THOROUGHLY done MASTERPIECE that is UNFORGETTABLE. 🖤 I love Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs, but NO! I have no intention of supporting a remake we didn't ask for! Thank you for your service, Tony! 🫡
I too saw The Crow, 30yrs ago in theaters. But I was also a fan Brandon Lee from Showdown in Little Tokyo, Kung Fu: The Movie, and Rapid Fire. I too felt the same way when I heard him pass and felt The Crow would have been that breakout performance for him. Also, shout to Struggle Nation. They said for the first 3/4 of the movie he was The Pigeon. The last half of the movie he was The Crow.
The reason why crows are a symbol of death, is because they’re the only bird known to seek revenge on other animals and people who hurt their flock. Also a group of crows together are called a murder, idk how or why they’re called that, but shit is crazy!
STILL remember to this day. I just knew he'd properly carry on his father's legacy. Didn't fathom he'd die just a year after making a name for himself in Rapid Fire. 😔🙏🏾❤🕊️
The original is one of my favorite movies. After they butchered part 2, I refused to watch any more sequels. Brandon Lee had such a bright career ahead of him, and I remember even as a kid, the news of his death was devastating to me. Side note: that's why I refused to watch the newer Point Break. Just, no. 🙅🏻♀️ Classics are called that for a reason. 😮💨
The Crow with Mark DeCascos fitted well with me being the Brandon Lee was a martial artist and Mark DeCascos was a martial artist. It suited the roll because how Brandon set the mark. It is like how Wesley Snipes set the mark as Blade. Few could replace him as the character! FEW!
I have been saying this for the past 15 years. Either they are making a superhero movie or it's a remake. They have run out of ideas or they just aren't as accepting. You hit that nail right on the head Tony. Even the fact that they just remade Twister! I love the Movie reviews. And I usually agree with you about a good 85% of the time and I'm speaking about your saxophone ratings. I love Brandon Lee's movies. Showdown Little Tokyo was great. And as far as I'm playing in the crow I'm not going to even lie, I didn't even really think they could remake that. I really thought they probably would have just did some type of sequel of some sort where it goes to someone else but to try to do a remake you just can't because he already bought it and then on top of that to leave that legacy of being killed during the movie... That's just tough to overcome. But I hear what you reading was but I'm going to go check it out just to see it
CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILE 😮💨 The ONLY reason I went to see it (opening weekend) was to support my girl FKA twigs! Thank GOD I didn't expect it to be good cuz it SHO WASN'T! 😩😫 1.5 saxs 🎷 out of 5 🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
I was about 9 or 10 when the original crow came out. I remember watching the movie when I was in my teens. I remember the crow TV series too. I think it only lasted one season.
I don't know if anyone commented this but... a group of crows is called a murder, also when you see a crow outside of its murder it's considered a bad omen.
Man, I feel you.........30yrs ago!! 😳🤦🏽♀️. I love the Skarsgårds, they are an incredible acting family; Brandon Lee is still my favourite as The Crow, however.
I hated this movie for the simple fact that they made Eric essentially a side character, the movie was focused on Shelly, which was pointless……it seemed rushed, no character development, and they seemed to fall in love after like what seemed like 2 days in the movie, even the villain didn’t make sense nor was it explained…..this was possibly one of the worst movies ever made
I actually liked all 3 of Branden Lee's films. Showdown in lil Tokyo was kinda wierd though because he was an outsider to the Asian community but Dolph was all in. It didn't make alot of sense to me but it was entertaining
they let you see that live actually powered this one. his conviction to see her well is what strengthened him. he started out fighting for them to be together and ended up sacrificing his future for her and became stronger and more deadly for it. with Brandon he came out the grave a year later and then went straight to his apartment to remember things and take on the rage of love lost. this was a great superhero origin story
The Crow 2 was sabotaged by the studio. The original story was supposed to be about brothers iirc, they wanted to be as far apart as possible from the first one out of respect. Studio stepped in and said they wanted another film exactly like the first one. That's why Sarah came back, and it was trash. Every one after that was straight to DVD and also trash lol. RIP Brandon Lee.
Now that I think of it.. more often than not, whenever there's imagery of scarecrows, theres always a crow or two sitting on the arms. Almost like they want us to KNOW they know it ain't real. Like taunting us in a way. 😂😂
I was not buying the love story in The Crow 2024; with all the romanticizing of drug use and drinking, it's a no for me. Brandon's other films are excellent. They don't make films like those anymore. I liked the second Crow film, City of Angels ( it had interesting elements). This new one had interesting elements, but they could have made better decisions that didn't drag the movie down. You can do a lot with The Crow Comic books, so why do they still want to chase the 1994 The Crow movie instead of telling an interesting new story using the elements of The Crow comic and other aspects to create something different than Crow 1994?
Great review, Tony. I will always like the original CROW movie from te 90's better. Brandon Lee is one of my favorite actors and it was a real tragedy to see his career cut short due to someone's negligence on the set. RAPID FIRE is my favorite movie with Braodon Lee. His work as the leading role, Jake Lo, was great both in acting and in screen fighting.
I was gonna comment about why crows make sense but CLEARLY Tony got the memo. I am actually SO scared of pissing off a crow, they remember faces AND hold grudges, but they also can be friendly and will trade gifts for food. I think them being dark also adds to the goth aesthetic, though. And a group of crows is called "a murder".
Well, after hearing nothing but bad things about it, I went and watched it anyways. I didn't think it was bad. It doesn't compare to the original. Still though, I think it was much better than the terrible sequels that came after it.
in Dragon he plays his father i loved that movie. But Anyone who has seen Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story will be aware that the Lees feared a family curse, and a metaphorical demon attacks Bruce throughout the film before finally turning its attention to his son. Dragon finished shooting several months before Brandon Lees accident. Stranger still, at the time of his own death Bruce Lee was filming Game of Death, which would finally be released years later using original footage and substitute actors. Lees character was an actor in the middle of shooting a movie and ends up getting shot in an on-set accident involving a prop gun.
“The Crow” (1994) was such a good movie!! When I heard about the remake, I KNEW I wouldn’t see it. “The Crow” introduced me to music that I still listen to now. “Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots is still in heavy rotation for me. Brandon Lee was finding his way, and I think he could have been a great action star. 🕊️
Respectfully disagree on the establishment of Eric and Shelly's love, in this 2024 movie. They were together for what seemed like a few weeks and were just partying, getting high, and smashing. This is the love that defies death?
I saw it opening weekend, and as someone who has NOT seen the original, I thought it was fun. Like in a "Fast and Furious 6 and later" kinda fun. Turn your brain off and enjoy. It's interesting to me that Tony liked the love aspect of it, I felt like they should have done more with it. Maybe I missed something, but.. like, he knew that girl for a month MAX. All this over a girl you only knew for a couple weeks???? Now to be fair, they did set up that he's got a bit of trauma he's dealing with, and they kinda imply that she was his first love.. like, I might have killed over my first real love too idk, I was down bad for her 😂 I did like all the action tho. He really IS just some guy, and they make that clear. Even towards the end, when they give him kind of a "power-up", he was still doing mostly regular ol stuff. I appreciate when movies do that.
The fact that she forgot she was looking for her friend till ol boy reminded her the friend was dead and they were just chilling at the crib when she knows they're after her was so stupid. I feel like even though they showed us them falling in love is was still shallow. We didn't get to see much of the love in the og but people knew and cared about them and their love which made it deeper.
I actually like it. It's definitely not as good as the original, but seeing how they met and getting more into the loir of his powers was dope. Probably would have been better as a series. Check a book called, The Crow: Shattered hearts and broken Dreams. It's a tribute to James O'Obarr, I definitely think they referenced one of those stories.
I'm here yet again Tone! I kinda wanted to see it, but I'm more like I'll wait till it hits Peacock or Paramount 😅 and after watching this, I was correct! BUT Crows are Dark colored so it speaks to the Darkness, the mystique etc.. ain't nobody trippin on a piegion 😂 Have you thought about reviewing some of the re-realease they have coming out? Maybe some folks haven't seen or hadn't seen on the big screen?
Contrary to popular opinion, I actually liked this 2024 interaction. It was different, and I personally liked the extra R-rated material. Didn't realize it had done so poorly at the box office. I guess I'll be one of the only folks picking up the 4K Blu-ray if and when it gets released. The OPERA scene!! C'mon! That was worth the price of admission for me.
I just recently watched the original crow on streaming and really enjoyed it. It was very "of it's time" without coming off as cheesy. Was looking fwd to catching the remake, but everyone says it sucks lol. I'll watch the new one when it comes to streaming.
Imagine we got a closer adaptation of the graphic novel and it's more of a dark poem. Instead, we get this soft, action movie. We've truly lost the meaning of the original story. He's not a super hero. He's a man who lost everything and is in pain. A man who wants revenge on those who wronged him. He takes that revenge with ease, but the true hurdles are the moments of pain when he remembers his love for Shelley. That is his struggle. That is his story.
If you can find it Tony you should watch Legacy of Rage. It is one of Brandon's Hong Kong movies! I'm like you in that I only like the first Crow. All the sequels were bad.
They should of remade this into an animated series telling the story of the comic made by james obarr. The time period was set in the 1980s when gangs still romed the streets. Trust when i say animate the comic.
I barely remember the second Crow installment. It didn’t catch me like the first one did. I was so young when I seen it too but it left a strong impression on me. This reboot was TRASH! The chemistry between the characters was lacking, as you said nothing visually or musically felt specific to the movie, the villain’s story could have definitely used more juice behind it. The romance didn’t come off as intense to warrant all of this. Eric’s backstory seemed pointless because they never really explore it but use it as point of connection with shorty. They could have scrapped that and just focused introducing these two when they met in rehab. That scene with Eric being inside shorty’s mom’s apartment was weird. Something feels very incomplete about this movie. Like it was rushed.
Like he said they could have changed the story because it's a good premise but no. they said let's remake it and have somebody try to fill the big shoes of Brandon Lee😮
The crow is one of those movies i haven’t seen, wasn’t allowed to see anything but G rated growing up until i was like 28, so now I’m gone go back and watch the original. Why the crow 🐦⬛ i wanna know.
I’m so mad I paid 20 bucks for this before looking at reviews. I was too blinded by my love for the original and skarsgard that I made a horrible mistake.
“Hollywood come up with original shit” THAT PART!! Say it again Tony!!!
They shouldn’t have remade this classic smh. I wont be watching this one. No shade to Bill , but Brandon Lee owns that character for me .
EXACTLY! 💯
I also agree it is a hard watch
They never really stopped making them. Like city of angels dropped in 96. Which mean they made that movie the next year.
I concur.
Even if they made a good remake nobody can top Brandon's performance just like Ledgers Joker
The thumbnail, Tone. 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
You better not be playing around when Tony pulls up like this
Everytime😂😂😂😂😂
Tony really trying to get in good with the Crows with the double-double back on the ending 😂😂
Brandon Lee will ALWAYS have the last laugh when it comes to failed sequels and this 'remake'. Brandon Lee was/is MASTERFUL as The Crow/Eric Draven. Bill Skarsgård's accent changed so many times during this film it was (unintentionally) comical. 🥴
It kept throwing me off 😂
Pigeons stay merkin people. Remember the Goodfeathers from Animaniacs?!
The Pigeon: City of Poopy

The crow series was pretty good
The Goodfeathers were the best part of Animaniacs to me.😂

I recently learned a fun fact about the original movie. The crow was actually a raven. Apparently, ravens are easier to train. Who knew?!
Coulda also called it the Magpie, yeah dumb name, I know, but those mfers can be vicious if you cross'em

Right! The short lived show with Mark Dacascos was pretty good. It helped Mark seemed to respect the material and he knew Brandon personally!
