Whats the best bait? Squid vs Pilchards

On a recent trip in the Hauraki Gulf Matt Watson decided to do a 'scientific' experiment and see what caught more fish, squid or pilchards.

Interesting fact though - pillies catch more other types of fish than squid does. Squid can restrict you to snapper only...

I find squid catches everything. A lot easier to put on the hook aswell

I've found that different baits do better on different days. I'm not sure what causes this. Be it weather or time of the moon.

Snapper aren't that fussy u can use about any bait i recon.
Were i live trumpetrs or shit fish are everywhere during summer and snapper will eat them frozen
