Farang bar owners encouraged the lady drink rip off a few years back and since then has it been regarded as the norm when going to beer bars even when you're paying top money for your own beers. I avoid these bars at all costs and prefer to get my female fun from massage girls or just bumping into them on the street or wherever

I see and feel it regularly. 2 weeks ago I had a foot massage (first time in that shop) the first 15-20 min. older lady tried to pressure me into an oil massage, I refused 4-5 times. she was not happy, half way a chinese customer came in, he wanted thai massage and pointed to "my" masseuse, soon mamasan came and blah blah. she took over so mine could take the new customer, ok i said (got a bit fed up with that aden woman) but the mamasan did some sloppy work and finished quickly, in total i got 35-40 minutes of massage.. thanks for that i Will never go there again.@@welshboywebby

my 1 and only time in Pattaya I saw a lady at a bar smiling at me I politely bought her a lady drink , same thing happened she didnt make a conversation and walked away played pool with another customer after 10 minutes the customer man next to me told me to just drink her drink because I paid for it I dank it tasted just like a sprite with zero alcohol , the bar manageress at the bar saw it I politely explain to her what happened and she immediately took it off the bill talked to the bar lady to say she not getting a lady drink I politely said thank you and ordered myself more drinks she didnt lose a customer by her actions and all was ok. A "Ladydrink" is also a persentage dearer than a standard drink. IE: Standard drink 60 baht - Ladydrink 100 Baht, the 40 Baht goes to their wage at the end of the month.

And the bar onbuakhao was my latest bad experience when the 'older lady' was pissed when I aksed her to call another girl to the table and didnt buy the old lady a drink too. On top of that they were just talking to each other in Thai the whole time. Pathetic experience overall. Years ago the girls didn't hound you for lady drinks now they dont even want to leave the bar because they are making so much money off lady drinks. Pattaya is finished it has been for the past 5-10 years. The standard of girls has went way downhill. Agreed. My opinion is that tourists ruin it, often someone will try a higher price and the tourist will pay and give a little extra. Drinks are bought just for a smile, many people don't care about the prices and so the prices go up and the quality of service goes down. At home tourists address the price of butter or bread and if something cost $1 more they wouldn't buy it, but then they are in Pattaya for a week and feel like millionaires and splurge senselessly.

Anyway, you offer to buy the girl a drink an they come back with ( I'm my case) a large jaegerbomb. That drink costs you more than the normal lady drink so the girl also takes a bigger cut of the drink. What annoyed me ( & it was in a different bar) that I knew the girl, so was disappointed in her. I didn't kick up a fuss with management but I expressed my annoyance with her and also left the bar. I would have stayed and maybe got her a few more drinks had she not been so crafty. I bought drinks soi 6 before . To find out a couple of days later the lady was drinking water in a washed old heineken bottles. I got reimbursed two bottles and given a complimentary drink. I'm sure the whole bar was in on it.

The bars have turned into scam joints recently. They don’t honor agreements anymore, which is totally contrary to the way they used to be.

You got that wrong mate if a drink is 69 baht and the lady drink will be about 150 baht the lady may only get 50 or 60 baht the rest goes to the bar
The soapies seem to be the best value, 90 minutes solid and yes it’s expensive but the value is worth it.

Drinks are bought just for a smile, many people don't care about the prices and so the prices go up and the quality of service goes down. At home tourists address the price of butter or bread and if something cost $1 more they wouldn't buy it, but then they are in Pattaya for a week and feel like millionaires and splurge senselessly.

Another little 'trick' which I came across a few months back, and it usually happens in bar which hire freelancers to work serving drinks and they get a cut from the drink, same as the 'employed' girls - billabong bar in LK is one such bar. Anyway, you offer to buy the girl a drink an they come back with ( I'm my case) a large jaegerbomb. That drink costs you more than the normal lady drink so the girl also takes a bigger cut of the drink. What annoyed me ( & it was in a different bar) that I knew the girl, so was disappointed in her. I didn't kick up a fuss with management but I expressed my annoyance with her and also left the bar. I would have stayed and maybe got her a few more drinks had she not been so crafty. Just a little something else for farang to be wary of
