ASUS and Corsair's pricing model boils down to "what do we want to sell this for when it is 40% off on black Friday?"
In this case 500 - 40% = 300 & $299.99 is spot on for what this board is actually worth.

Gaming market won't want it because it's not HE, and the enthusiast market won't want it because they can build something cheaper and save $400. As a keyboard enthusiast who knows JUST ENOUGH to lube my switches and insulate the bottom tray [and swap my own keys] What does this Asus keyboard do that my Black Widow V4 75%, Huntsman Analog, or Keychron K7 don't? Besides cost just a little more than I paid for all 3 of those, I mean.

One of the things that gets pointed out a lot in reviews is that the Azoth Extreme has a really solid build quality, which you won't see on the Razer keyboards for sure. Anything that isn't a gaming keyboard won't have the same responsiveness, especially wireless. So, this is kind of marrying the two worlds together. For sure, HE switches are hot right now and a lot of people are paying attention to it, but not everyone plays games like Valorant or CS where it might make a difference!
As for the enthusiast market and customs... I'm curious what kind of equivalent you can get for $100 that's equivalent. Time spent researching and choosing all the parts, waiting for them to come in, and then doing a lot yourself (like lubing switches which takes a LONG time) isn't always worth it for everyone!
      Just my take on it!

Eh no, I make and sell custom keyboards and just the keycaps alone cost more than $100, never mind the cost of the case, the plate, the switches, the PCB and so on.
I have never seen a $100 fully finished, fully custom keyboard.

Sure, youre not buying a keyboard, but as a value proposition, you are buying something that is actually much more useful than that stupidly priced keyboard anyways. You get a gaming handheld and it doubles up as a portable computer. You really cant justify the price without thinking what else you could be spending that $500 on.

Wooting, Razer, Keychron have not only HE but also Last Key Prioritization, which is crucial for FPS gamers.
I think this is for average mass consumers who only differentiate by brands. Likely their choices are mainstream brands like Logitech vs Cooler Master/ Asus etc
The comment saying this failed both gamers and enthusiasts is correct. Asus brand loyalists might get it but even then its a very hard sell, in features and looks.

Glad to see you back. I think they price it high and will probably drop their price to make it seem like a value. No doubt it’s a nice keyboard but not worth $500. Also guess it for someone who want a nice keyboard without worrying about setup. The biggest disappointment and the reason why I didn’t buy it myself was the so configuration software. It way behind via/qmk. You can pretty much only program 1 layer and remap keys. Compared to keychron q1 or zsa voyager this is a step backward. Lastly the other disappointment is how loose the knob is next to display which makes it feel cheap.

  • @hubmanspencer7943

If I was seriously considering purchasing this keyboard, the lack of a magnetic connection for the wrist wrest would almost by itself cause me to not buy it. The price does seem high, but I’ve seen people end up putting way more into a keyboard. So maybe it’s not that far out of line considering all the features it has. I think the lack of a magnetic attachment for the wrist wrest is a huge oversight. It does sound really nice though.

ASUS could easily drop $200 off the cost of this keyboard simply by removing all the unnecessary accessories in the packaging. No gaming keyboard is worth more than $300.
ASUS is also wasting time experimenting with price ceilings while other brands are quickly gaining notoriety.
As an example, while I'm personally not a fan of Wooting, their keyboards have claimed the top spot in terms of consumer mindshare in the competitive gaming space. In addition, Keychron has evolved into a formidable player in entry to mid-level keyboards with solid build quality and a focus on simplistic designs for a little more than $200.
ASUS needs to focus on improving their customization/configuration software *immediately* and stop this obsession with premium parts for their ROG-flavored rabbit hole.

Feels super weird since ASUS kinda ok with Falchion, the low profile one. Not their best effort but it is getting there. They kinda only compete with LoFree and NuPhy on that price segment, and then you filter it for gamer, it still have the niche.
Somebody tells me what kind of material costs that much to 500 on this, or on what niche? I feel that $150 HE keyboards are maybe better for gaming. It has the same metal case. Heavy, maybe also easy to disassemble. And sounds more or less better.

Apart from armoury crate, I think the keycaps are the most disappointing part of this keyboard, imagine paying 500 USD for regular old shinethrough keycaps. Imo, they should have took time to design a more special keycap set. I even thought it was the OG Azoth in the thumbnail for a moment. I think the rest of the board is very premium but whether it's worth 500 USD is highly debatable. I would personally pay no more than 350 USD for this, even with its tech implementation and a unique set of keycaps.

I feel they're low key just trying to inflate the cost of everything and hoping over time people just accept these high cost. like the cost of some foam and rubber is not much. maybe the OLED screen is expensive but it would feel more justifiable if they made is a bit bigger then the not extreme version. I'm sure this will go on sale after a while cause its hard to see a lot of people buying this version over the cheaper one. Maybe they're pulling a 5 head move and came out with an azoth extreme to make the OG version sell more? lol

Yes, I make and sell custom keyboards and they can work out to be much more expensive than this, especially if you use high end components. Some top notch sets of keycaps themselves can cost hundreds a of dollars, however custom boards also generally look, feel and sound much better than this Asus and you can customise every aspect to suit your preferences.
