I never watched the original movie as a kid, but I instead watched the direct-to-dvd sequel G'Day USA. Unlike the original, that one was actually a kids movie, and I think that the main characters could actually talk to the kangaroo in that movie due to something happening.
You heard me right, the direct-to-dvd sequel was more faithful to the advertising than the original movie. That's how little of a shit the movie gave

I worked for Comcast at the height of the jamster era, and in the customer support call center, I got calls almost DAILY from people angry at us that they were getting these random monthly charges. Imagine having to tell them OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN that no, we didn't sign you up for that, your 12 year old kid did, and no, we can't stop the payments, the company charges us for the service on your account and you have to talk to THEM to get it shut off. Apparently, jamster had ABYSSMAL phone support, and getting through it was like trying to part the Red Sea. So you can imagine how much fun THAT was. 😒

the jamster ringtones will always haunt me. 7 or 8 years ago i got the gummi bear song after seeing it on teennick. as a 12 year old with a phone in 2009/2010, this was one of many mistakes made. i didnt tell my mom so every month until she canceled our phone service and we were changed for this fucking mess of a song that i only used for one month. every month my mistakes were put in front of me. i had suffered for long enough and am glad jamster is dead.

I was researching the production of Kangaroo Jack. Apparently, it was supposed to be an R-Rated comedy inspired by the Robert De Niro film Midnight Run. However, Jerry Bruckheimer decided to re-edit it after poor test audiences. He was inspired by advertisements from Snow Dog and positive reactions to the Kangaroo, and this R Rated Mafia comedy wad turned into a family film with more scenes featuring the Kangaroo. This is why the tone is so jarring and why they advertized the Kangaroo despite only being in a few scenes.
But now I can confirm that there's an R Rated version of Kangaroo Jack somewhere in the world, and we have yet to see it. Do we really want it? Who knows. I know I want it lol.

Dang I was always confused why Kangaroo Jack barely had him in it as a child. I was so bored of the human crap cause I was young, why would they advertise a character who only appears for 10 seconds.
Samurai Jack is better.
Long story short, Disney's Snow Dogs had a talking animal dream sequence that took up a good portion of the marketing and made money, so Warner Brothers forced a talking animal dream sequence and other scenes with the kangaroo into what was supposed to be an adult action comedy and had it take up ALL the marketing in hopes the movie would make MORE money.
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and the movie totally lied to me
The difference between Snow Dogs and Kangaroo Jack is that Snow Dogs was still a kids movie, while Kangaroo Jack should've never been advertised for an audience it wasn't made for
There was an animated remake of the movie, which somehow managed to have the same mistake despite A) it's clearly aimed towards kids, and B) talking kangaroos are a lot cheaper to do when everything is animated. At least they changed it from being a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment to being a setup for a spin-off tv show that obviously never happened, so there's that.

@@Pooky1991 Eight Crazy Nights was kind of unreal, Adam Sandler did some genuinely good musical numbers in that movie. It's no something you'd play while driving but it was actually great by "actor singing in a movie" standards especially since he supposedly wrote it himself.

The filmmakers admitted that they didn't get any money from all the brands they name-dropped. If not for the fact that it was in a comedy and, therefore, protected by fair use parody law, it would also be ILLEGAL.

I remember having a VHS release of Super Mario Bros Super Show as a kid that still had the copyrighted music on it. It was an episode with magic carpets and junk and had a Stephenwolf song on it... In case anyone is actually interested in the VHS releases of Mario cartoons.

It’s comforting to know I wasn’t the only one duped by Kangaroo Jack as a kid. I remember going to the website and being like “oh this seems like a cool talking dog movie” then my mom rented it from blockbuster and I was so confused.
I think I remember they did an animated sequel and prolly should’ve rented that as a kid instead (probably wasn’t that good but I bet it would have entertained me more as a dumb kid who really liked talking animal movies and had the attention span of a goldfish)

You know, I feel like Pan is the only guy left who has a channel about animation and never really does anything to make me actually sigh or roll my eyes. I've personally gotten kind of sick and midly annoyed by some of the stuff saberspark and (especially to the point where I'm probably gonna unsub soon) Robobuddies. It just feels too bland or soulless and obnoxious, but Pan manages to keep me fully into him.
Oh yeah and Pan's story mode yaddayaddayadda it's complete now if you care, you'll never hear from it again after this, we are now free from the suffering. I've emailed it to Pan, hope he likes it lol.
Maybe it's fact that he avoids "current" animation news/topics or top 10 done to death videos. It certainly helps his legacy views
Also, Pan seems to be the only animation-based TH-camr who can actually articulate with a good recording voice.

Kangaroo Jack might be one of the most egregious examples of abusive, manipulative trailer editing in recent cinema history.
There have been other movies that have misrepresented their contents in their trailer, but those were largely low-budget direct-to-video turds that had every reason to lie just to sell their 5-dollar DVD and recoup costs. (That's not a justification, just a reason.)
Kangaroo Jack was everything but low-budget, and their targeted audience was far younger than that which they likely should have been after. Coupled with the absolute bombardment of 'children's networks' with constant advertisements and promotions... definitely deliberate.

Fun fact: The Crazy Frog was the biggest hit of the entire YEAR in Europe in 2005. Bigger than Eminem and Linkin Park and whoever else had hits that year. The third biggest hit was "Un monde parfait" by Ilona, another annoying animated mascot. The sixth biggest hit was "Schnappi das kleine Krokodil" which, guess what....was also an animated mascot (though not as bad as the other two). WTF was wrong with Europe in 2005?!
