When I think of a signature song for Eva Cassidy I’d probably go with Wayfaring Stranger, just because that was the first song I heard her perform. A close second would be Fields of Gold.
Decades ago, I had the TV on in the background while doing chores. As I walked through the living room where the TV was, this was played on the UK Top of the Pops. I stood mesmerised. I did something I've never done before or since. I emailed the TV show and begged them play it again. The producer of the show replied and said it was the most requested repeat he had ever seen. They did repeat it some time later
I actually want to cry and am almost in tears, she is extraordinary. I discovered her some years ago via a British program and am still lost in her music and voice. I agree completely. She owns this song, the original version does not compare to Eva's talent and interpretation. She is incredible. I hope her parents are able to glean some income from her work, even though she's not here for them in their later years.
I loved her. The club was "Blues Alley" in Washington, D.C. She played there all the time before she passed away. I miss her today and I think that this is the best interpretation of this song. that has every been done. Thank you for your reaction. Hearing this song always make me cry but in a good way.
I'm unsure how many times I have listened to this song, but the sweetness and sadness always tugs at my feelings. The original never meant much to me, but this version brings the words and emotions alive
It's very different...... Judy Garland sings it like, "Oh my god, it's so amazing you just have to fly over the rainbow with me!!" ...... Eva Cassidy sings it like she's in a very sad and lonely place and surely, surely it gets better somewhere over the rainbow. Brings me to tears every time I hear Eva's version.......
The finest rendition of this classic song I have ever witnessed ! So beautifully performed and this was live in a club ! A wonderful guitarist and magnificent emotional artist ! This is a vocal masterpiece by a most talented artist ! Sadly she passed away the later that year but gained national prominence years later with this release in the UK of all places ! RIP my lovely Ava ! Thank you so much for reacting to her ! I would suggest her cover of "Fields of Gold " by Sting that is just as phenomenal ! Sending you much thanks and love from Canada ! 🤗👍🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for your sharing and reacting to Eva Cassidy. She is truly one of the greatest singers who ever walked the earth. She left far too early at 33 not caring whether she was famous at all (she turned down a major record deal). There are many other incredible songs she covered, including Fields Of Gold, Autumn Leaves, Song Bird, Time After Time, Imagine, What a Wonderful World, Tall Trees in Georgia, Birthday Song, Danny Boy, Ain't No Sunshine, and others. All are incredible.
Thank you for your beautiful interpretation of Eva Cassidy's interpretation! This was a beautiful rendition and you really knew how to express what she was saying, in her very own way. What a gift she was. RIP beautiful Eva.
awesome. thanks for allowing us to hear the whole piece front to back uninterrupted and see and share in real-time your full raw emotional response and comments on the whole.
As you know I have a channel devoted to the musical genius Angelina Jordan, but Eva Cassidy is her closest rival in the past 50 years in my opinion. And this cover is out of this world!
I have been a fan of Eva Cassidy fan for time. She had a very soulful voice. She left us to early. This is the best cover of this song. I agree this song is hers now. She has other performances that are very special. I want to thank you for covering Angelina Jordan. She is a special artist and we are very fortunate to be able hear beautiful soulful voice. I have been fan of hers for 5 short years. Keep up the good work in all your reactions.
Came back for another visit, Deb. When I'm scrolling on You Tube and I see Eva's video I can't pass it by. I saw your video and you were wonderful as usual with your reaction and your comments. Take care.
Ty ty for helping continue the legacy of this truly great artist that left us much too soon. Sheer perfection of a performance. Excellent reaction and comments. Many blessings wished for you and your channel.
Wow! This is pure magic. Eva's voice is simply, beautiful. She has such a tremendous range; in pitch, volume and quality. Her pitch is perfect, her arrangements are genius and her guitar playing is impeccable. Every note is placed with precision and purpose. She has that rare ability, that very few singers possess, of being able to capture the meaning and emotion of every song she sings. If you look at her expressions during this song,; no doubt, she's experiencing everything that this song is about. Then, she makes you feel it too! That's where she is different from most singers. That's where her magic happens. This was a live performance. You could not even hear a pin drop. Everyone was transfixed. She does that to me too. For me, when Eva sings, everything else stops. Indeed so!
Very nice review of this song that is imo the most beautiful performance of the 20th century and maybe the 21st. Very smart of you to just let it play and not interrupt the emotional cloud Eva puts us on.
Prior to Angelina, Eva was THE artist to me that I literally would play on repeet over and over, and she did to me what Angelina also does to me these days. (To see them both in the mas-up really took my breath away.) With Angelina there is also added the dimension of her being so young. That she`s still abel to put me into these amazingly beautyful places, make the emotionel side of it even stronger. Eva, who I discovered as she just passed, is still enriching my life with her gorgeous music (I had to get hold of every one of the albums from her) and she never fails to bring sparkling light to my day. Angelina is the one that I think will bring such splendid new moments to my days ahead. These two will forever be the top of my list. Will there be others like them in my days? I have a hard time trying to imagine that. Thank`s a lot again Debra. this lady is simply another one you can never go wrong with. She will grab your heart with every song you pick.
My father and I watched this performance when it aired on Top of the Pops, the first time most in the UK had heard of this beautiful singer. We both silently wept. He's been gone a while now but seeing this video of Eva brings him back to me. Thanks for making this reaction.:)
Deborah, I was introduced to Eva about 20 years ago and I've never looked back. She is one of the most profound female vocalists I've ever heard and is certainly in my top two. Not only her singing, but she is a master guitarist as well. She doesn't just sing but she emotes that you can tell by the expressions on her face as she sings. Future recommendations from Eva include Fields of Gold, Time after Time, Autumn leaves, and Danny boy. Also songbird. You can't go wrong with any one of them.
Ron I just discovered her a while ago and she comes in at #2, right behind Angelina. And this cover is one of the all-time best I’ve heard. With this and Autumn Leaves she even surpasses Angelina for me, which is saying a lot!
@@BigAngieFan808 I'm right with you Chris. I introduced Andy to her and I know he's a big fan now as well. Eva was a special soul and it's tragic what happened. We lost one of the greatest female vocalists of the generation.
@@BigAngieFan808 Actually, Angelina introduced me to Eva when she came out with her TT version of "Fields Of Gold". I wanted to listen to the original and got hooked. Until then, no other singer had ever choked me up like Angelina can. So, ten years, almost to the day (+7), after this performance Angelina was born and the world was re-aligned.
Thank you for your sincere appreciation of the wonderful Eva Cassidy. Eva can sing in any genre and has created Eva versions of Jazz, gospel, blues songs. All of them meant something to her, and once sung by her, she owned them. I have subscribed so please allow me the privilege of following you when you react to more of her incredible songs.
Deborah, I loved your perceptive observations on Cassidy’s performance, but I loved even more watching your face as you listened. From your expressions, it was clear Eva’s singing, and her interpretation of the song, really touched your soul. Your reaction was beautiful, and the best reaction video on this song that I’ve seen for that reason. Thank you.
Elsa McTaggart, a Scottish singer of note, who lives on the Isle of Lewis, did an Eva Cassidy tribute at the Edinburgh Fringe and was a huge success. Elsa's voice is lovely and it showed how much everyone misses Eva. Lovely comments in your reaction. I give it a 10.
For me personally this rendition of this song by Eva Cassidy 🙏🏾is so hauntingly beautiful that my heart ❤️ quivers 💓and melts ❣️ Thank you for not pausing, interrupting or talking over but waited til the end. I subscribed Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
It's so sad she was the never hear the success in the UK and Europe 3 of the albums went to number one an over the rainbow stayed in the number one spot the 5-weeks
Just beautiful. I can not listen to this without crying my eyes out. We won't see another one of her caliber, you should listen to her renditions of fields of gold and imagine :) Peace and much love from Norway :)
Discovering Angelina made me a TH-camr, allowing me to discover other awesome artists such as Eva Cassidy. I never thought I would prefer a cover of this song over Judy's original, but I now to prefer this version. There is a mashup of Angelina and Eva singing "Fields of Gold" giving us some idea of how their voices would sound in a duet.
Deb, Judy's version will live forever. And, or course, so will the movie. She probably sang in it live shows hundreds and hundreds of times and, to me, the most memorable recording of her singing it occurred on one of her Judy Garland Shows' on television. She had just finished a segment of the Show featuring the song 'Swanee River' wearing a top hat. Then she sat down near the audience and told them she was going to sing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' for them. Obviously, for many reasons known only to Judy, the song meant everything to her and she actually was breaking down during the song but kept it together. After the last note Judy got up, and walked off the stage without smiling or acknowledging the audience. Her performance was so touching everyone was stunned. I mention all of this because Eva's version of the song was more than a beautiful version. It meant so much more to her. It was almost her saying good-bye while at the same time telling us to never forget to look over the rainbow and believe that dreams can come true. Deb, see if you can find Eva and Angelina singing a mashup of 'Fields Of Gold'. As great as Eva is, Angelina can stand right with her. I don't know about you, but there were notes Eva was hitting with a certain style which made me think of Angelina.
I'm just hoping you'll react to Gabriel singing Hallelujah with his father on acoustic guitar. He adds soo much more to it than he does in the studio version. You will really love it. Stay safe and blessed. ❤ Eric from New York City.
Now, Dorothy dear stop even imagining things. You always get yourself into a fret over nothing. Now you just help us out today and find yourself a place where you won't get into any trouble. Dorothy: (To herself) Someplace where there isn't any trouble. (To Toto) Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It's not a place you can get to by a boat or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon... Beyond the rain.
Please react to Autumn Leaves by Eva. Of all the songs Angelina Jordan has done, Evas version of Atumn leaves is the only one i think somebody did better than Angelina.
I imagine the audience sitting spellbound that evening
I had the luxury of seeing this performance live. We lost her shortly after and I continue to mourn that.
Heartwrenching little Eva with her big beautiful humble voice. No one compares. Not these new smart ass whippersnappers - no one
When I think of a signature song for Eva Cassidy I’d probably go with Wayfaring Stranger, just because that was the first song I heard her perform. A close second would be Fields of Gold.
Nobody does this song better then Eva.

I thank God for the recordings of Eva. I've only discovered her a few years ago.
I have watched, listened, experienced this performance scores of times...and it rips my heart out, everytime. Just magical.
The look of pure love on your face while listening to Eva says it all.

The intensity of your listening was a beautiful thing to behold. An angelic voice that transcends the time we take to listen to this song.
Wonderful reaction, i could see how much you loved that performance just like me.
Many artists have done this song but Eva owns it. She really has made it hers. This has always been my favorite of hers. Thanks for the reaction. ❤☮🙏
