    Peacock Bass, Wolf Cichlid, Umbriferum, Jag Cichlid, Red Terror, Trimac, Oscar, in no particular order.

    I have enjoyed your videos, thi included, very much but I thought you said the most beautiful cichlid was the Starry night (Black Diamond) cichlid. Paratilapia polleni, instead of the Turquoise (Blue Freckled Monster) umbee cichlid, Kronoheros umbriferus? There are several species of Peacock, Cichla, cichlid though I prefer Pavon which is one of its other names. The Peacock bass in Florida is either the Butterfly pabon, Cichla ocellaris which was introduce into Florida, Hawaii and Puerto Rico or a hybrid of C. ocellaris x Cichla monoculus, Tucanare. Tucanare was also introduced to Hawaii and Florida. Cichla temensis, Speckled pavon, introductions in Florida and Texas ( where introduction of C. ocellaris also fsiled failed but succeed Singapore where is is called "emperor" cichlid. The title of "emperor cichlid is shared by two African cichlids, the "Giant cichlid" Boulengerochromis micropeltes which also goes by "Kuhe" and "Yellowbelly cichlid." The "African Peacock Blue Hap cichlid" or "Chisawawa" or "Chigong'u," Aulanocara nyassae, Kuhe is from Lake Tanganyika and Chigong'u is from Lake Malawi. The name "Yellowbelly cichlid" is also used for the Central American cichlid "Salvin's cichlid" Trichromis salvini. Getting back to Pavon (Peacock bass) while the cichilds you pictured could well be Cichla temensis then their color showed is only temporary as their normal color (depending on the water) is an darker background with white specks and longitudinal lines as pictured in Wikipedia or Fishbase. There are sme other pavons that grow almost big as the Speckled pavon whose color patterns would normally fit those shown in your pictured. Yet those pictures could well be Cichla temensis. As I have a short history of working in the "exotic" fish business, Southwest Tropical in Euless, Texas, and over 60 years of reading, fishing, owning and buying fish, it is hard to remember where I got information that I recalled but I doubled checked with Wikipedia, Fishbase, Mongabay and seriouslyfish.com in responding to your informative and interesting post.

    My brothers Oscar far outgrew his Midas (kept in a 180) Oscar turned up 16 inches, Midas only got up to 13 inch. Oscar size is very understated they can get up to 20 inches but very rarely exceed 15 inch. In conclusion id say Oscars are definitely a contender to either tie with RD/Midas or be in between Midas and Jag in size

  • @williamblansett5786
    @williamblansett5786 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One large African cichlid you ought to look at to keep is the Giant Emperor cichlid Boulengerochromis microlepis. There is a shorter African name shown on Fishbase. They don't color up until they get bigger. Male pattern different from female.

    Definitely want to say thank you for all the many videos and to encourage keeping it up! On this particular topic, it seems to me that there are some key omissions - in particularly Petenia splendida (the Bay Snook aka Giant Cichlid). Also, what about Cincelichthys pearsei - you got one of those - the Pantano cichlid, or the Jolly Green Giant as I believe you call your specimen? Or how about Nosferatu steindachneri (uncommon, but long)?

    Have you ever wondered how much space or room a fish needs ?
    Does it depend on it's size, it's nature,
    it's habitat, behavior, potential growth.
    How might it effect the animal if these needs are not provided ? You can't ask the fish 😐.
    I gave up on aquariums because of my interest in the ratio of volume to surface area. I just built my own. Much happier fish. Much more room.
    I like the arpaima, but no hobbiest could keep that fish forever, even in the biggest private aquarium; it doesn't seem fair to the fish.
    I sacrificed volume for area basically.
    I just changed the geometry of the tank holding the 1000 gallons of water,
    and got 10 times the swimming room,
    with both shallower and deeper ends.
    And it was fun. Much more interesting.
    Love your vids. Educated and experienced, and you connect well with the viewer.

    I have a lot of these crazy species, my largest are jags, red devils, red tigers and red terrors. But that’s where I stop, I don’t have huge space to take on umbees, dovii or bass. It’s not fair to the fish, if you can’t meet its needs.
