"Like a Rock" will remind you of many times you heard a song in a commercial that just stayed with you. If you want a song that showcases his singing and writing talents, "Night Moves" should be next. I've seen Seger in concert at least 10 times, and he and the Silver Bullet Band never disappoint.
Not solo. His infamous band is called the Silver Bullet Band. This artist has more hits than numbers can count! BTW, I was there for his farewell tour, saw him in Virginia Beach (2018) and it was simply one of the best concerts I have ever attended in my 66 years of life! This man is the real deal! Thanks for reacting.
My brother and I grew up on Bob Seger. We saw him together in the 80's then again in 2012, just a year before my brother passed from Cancer. That one was special. We both love/loved Bob. He saw him many more times than I did. One time he told me his seats were so good that Bob could see him that time 😂 I love and miss my brother so very much.
I loved his band. Before that in the late 60's it was "The Bob Seger System". I think i was in 8th grade when RGM was released. ( Now called "dropped" which i still need to get use to). I'm old school, that's okay though, dropped or released, have the same meaning. My last Seger concert was his first show after having to take 10 years off for health problems. When he hit it big on the charts with Ramblin Gamblin Man in 1968 most people thought he was a black artist. So soulful. He’s from Detroit and his early work had almost a Motown vibe to it. I’m 61 and Seger has been at the top of my list for 50 years ❤❤
He's talking about the endless journey of a professional musician hence the lyrics "Say, here I am - On the road again - There I am - Up on the stage - Here I go - Playin' star again - There I go - Turn the page". So many think being a music star is glamorous, but reality is the opposite especially for a musician with a family.

Bob is his own. Unique. He can ballad you out like this, rock you as Feel Like A Number, Katmando, Hollywood Nights, or the best version cover he does of the Xmas song, Little Drummer Boy. I have several of his albums.
Just love Bob Seger…. He has soooo many fantastic songs….he CAN tell a story & take you right along with him… brings back beautiful memories… that sax is amazing! You’ll have to do more Seger!
Detroit hasn't had much to be proud of in the last 5 decades, but some great music and artists came from here! If you continue with Bob's music, be prepared. This isn't just a rabbit hole! This is more like a tunnel to the center of the earth! Bob's lyrics can paint such a vivid image you'd swear he was singing one of your memories!
There is not 1 single song that Bob sings that doesn't hit ya in the FEELS. Have loved this man since 1974. Just amazing writing and portrayl of the lyrics in his music. The silver bullet band is over the top also. Loved your reaction !
Brother Bob has so many hits. My fave is Sunspot Baby which is completely different than Turn the Page. I think it’s Alto Reed on sax in Turn the Page?
Alto Reed on sax. I was at one of their concerts and Alto trapezed above the audience while playing. It was very cool. Alto has passed away but played in the Silver Bullet Band for probably most if not all of his career. Between his Sax and Bob's piano or guitar they gelled perfectly. I first heard Bob Seger in 1968, Ramblin Gamblin Man. I was 11 or 12 then. Bob has a very unique piano sound, when you hear it you know it's Bob's. The last time i saw him in concert was the early 2000's at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids Mi. Bob has always loved Michigan, he very much represents us. There is a road named after him at Pine Knob, a concert venue just outside of Detroit. If you have never heard his song " The famous final scene" it's well worth a listen. All of his music is great. Another wonderful songwriter/musician from that era.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Bob Seger, here in Detroit, he is second only to God. I saw him at Cobo Hall in 75 and a dozen or more times until the last on May 8th 2019, sounded just as good 44 years later, his Sax player Alto Reed passed away a couple years ago
Live Bullet launched Bob and the band to the super star level. He has said that they went from touring in station wagons to touring in jets over night when this album hit big.
Segar (see-gur) is a fusion of blues/rock like Stevie Ray Vaughn and blue eyed soul like Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers singer). This one is a crowd pleaser w/ that sax. His song "Night Moves" though is truly a masterpiece. I think that's one of his fan's favorites among us all. It's a song about nostalgia and looking back on our young teenage wiling ways - the older you get, the more this song truly smacks home. Segar also wrote a lot of songs for other artists, including Kenny Rogers. Metallica did a cover of this song, and it is quite truly good! I still prefer Bob's original; but the Metallica cover is great. React to the cover, and compare the two! Segar was one of my dad's favorite artists, and his song "Like a Rock" was like my dad's theme song - he always turned that one up a little louder and always said this was written for him. We played it at his funeral, in 2013, and I haven't listened to the song since. I can't find the desire to do so.
My daughter and I saw him on his farewell tour in Chicago and it was magical. His saxophone player was amazing and has recently died. He has so many hits. Enjoy your journey, you will not be disappointed. He was raised with soul/rock in the Detroit area and has melded his sound into this music that has been around for 60 years. He has a rock style but very soulful vocals.
Love your reaction. Especially when the sax kicks in at first then later, and then towards the end where Bob goes from very smooth to gritty in his vocals. There I go! He's a legend. Thank you for listening to him and reacting to this song. It's nice to find people who appreciate the music I grew up with. He's still a radio presence in my car on my drive to/from work. :) There is so much more Bob Seger music for you to react to! You can compare him to Johnny Cash but not really. You said it yourself, you can't really compare Bob Seger to anyone.
The sax was played by long-time band mate of Bob’s, Alto Reed (a great stage name for a saxophonist.) It’s a touring band’s life he’s singing about. Boring hours on the bus and such. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits said it best, “… like a saxophone was made to go with the night.”
It’s so funny when people say they’ve never heard of Bob Seeger. The Chevy “Like a Rock” campaign is from his song, and most people have seen the famous scene in the movie “Risky Business “ where Tom Cruise dances in his boxers to “Old Time Rock and Roll” written and sung by Bob Seeger.
Being from Detroit, we never missed Seger when he came back to town. He played at my husband's prom and my husband went to school with Alto Reed, his sax player. Lot of great memories with Seger! One of the best!
We are from Michigan, and my husband puts in docks and boat hoists in lakes around here, and there are plenty! One lake,Cass Lake, he loves to work on in the summer cuz Bob lives on that lake, and you can hear his jam sessions! He comes home all happy saying rockin’ Robert was at it again, the lake got an impromptu concert!

His first song for me was 2+2. Which i loved, then Ramblin Gamblin and i was hoooked for life. Very broad act. Couldnt be pigeon holed as one type of music. He's music has always been the the background on my life since i was 11. Thank you Bob.
The one instrument I would love to hear more of in music is the sax. It’s such a beautiful sound and Bob had it well placed in this song. I do the same thing you did each time I hear it in this song. Urgent by Foreigner has a beautiful sax solo by legend Junior Walker
My Friend your insight and thoughts on this song were Beautiful. Man when you freeze or turn in your seat at parts of this song is can see your pure Love of Music, Bob is the Best singer songwriter, lyricist of all.🎸🎼🎹👍
I saw Bob for my 4th time in Shreveport on his final tour. Picture this all lights go out. Pitch black arena and that sax riff comes out of nowhere. CHILLS!
This is a great performance. Love that Bob is willing to be self-critical. Great sense of the hard life on the road, particularly for a low-level performer without handlers or bodyguards. Intense scene being confronted in the restaurant, "Hey, is that a woman or a man?" In the 1960's that was common, mocking and threatening long-haired guys. Bob "just want's to explode", but "you always feel outnumbered, and you don't dare make a stand". Then Bob's tired voice sings "Well, here I am,,," I wondered if this time he was confronting them?
@@georgesplett7932 Thanks George, yes I meant "Bob", and I just edited my response. Bob Seger is a great singer/writer, and not to have his first name changed by accident. I guess I was tired when I made that slip. Pete Seeger had a big impact on my musical journey, and a few times in the 1980's I got to play washboard and other minor percussion with Pete during casual musical gatherings of musicians. Pete was a great person. But I was writing about Bob.
This soung would olay endlessly through my head whenever I was getting close to a destination when riding my 🏍 bike's around the country. The closer i got the louder the song would play!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
You had it perfect in your first break for comment … he’s just “Bob” to all of us. A legend. “Get outta Denver” “Katmandu” “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” and a s--ton of other bluesy, tough songs, with some soft ones as well!
You probably don't realize it but you've almost certainly heard Bob Seger before as the chorus to his song "Like A Rock" has been used in car commercials for many years. Also, you've probably heard his legendary classic "Old Time Rock and Roll". Would be great to see you react to both songs "Like A Rock" and "Old Time Rock and Roll". Bob Seger writes some of the deepest lyrics sung to the tune of catchy songs that you will ever hear. I think my favorite song of his is "Roll Me Away". It absolutely soars and is all about feeling free. Welcome to the Bob Seger rabbit hole!
One of the best artists ever. So glad to see you doing this. So many great songs. Listen to Like a Rock (used in an old Chevy commercial). Night Moves. Main Street. You'll Accompany Me. Roll Me Away. Just a few. Love this guy
I've been listening to this song for about 50 years and I still have the same reaction you did. Used to go see him in Detroit. It was worth the drive from Chicago or even hitch hike.
Bob Segar was big in his day..all around time of Kenny Rogers & Neil Diamond. There're others..my brain knows but getting bit old & been awhile. But ya, Bob Segar will always stand out as a legend..somewhat under appreciated.. just a bit is all. Truly talented he was/is.👍 I have listened & heard this song thousands upon thousands..take for granted..forgotten first love. To see you experience for first time truly takes me back to appreciate the sound!👍❤🔴
He's on a tour bus. The line, "The same old cliches. Is it woman is it man?" is a reference to his long hair versus clean-cut truckers who would snicker or incite "hippies" at truck stops. Also, his name is pronounced SEE-ger and his band is The Silver Bullet Band. Thanks!
You've gotta hit up, Night Moves. No matter who you are or how you were brought up, it'll take you back to your High School days. ⚡️⚡️ Dude, I played sax in high school and I know EXACTLY what you're saying. 👍🏽😎 But my love is drums, which is what I play now. Yes, Metallica's version is excellent! 🔥
Growing up in Detroit, Bob was a staple in our home. I have see him twice live one before the troat cancer and after and he was amazing both times..... absolute legend!!!
"You walk into a restaurant, strung out from the road..." What a great line for anyone who has done a long road trip. It's usually a fastfood place and everyone is either a local or someone just like you who is tired of sitting in a car. The clock is ticking, but it's time for a break and to actually meet and talk to people, instead of sitting in a car watching the mile markers flow by.
I was fortunate enough to have seen Bob Seger live twice. He is a legend and has influenced most in the classic rock genre. He simply wrote, sang, and played what was in his heart and everyone followed his lead.
An Army buddy turned me onto Bob in '73...and 'forced' me to attend the Saturday evening show at Cobo Hall in '75. Tears were streaming down my face by the end of this song, even though I'd heard it dozens of times before. Saw him three more times...each concert magic. While I'm generally not a fan of 'remakes' you should take a listen to Metallica's take...masterful. The accompanying video stars Ginger Lynn in a remarkably touching view of a world Bob had never imagined when he penned this song.

CHILLS!
This song is about being a star on the road and the internal struggles that come with it and it's recorded live.
Welcome to my teen years.
Saw him and the band live at Cobo Arena, Detroit, 1980. Probably the best concert I've ever seen. Tied with KISS, also Cobo Arena.
Pete? You mean Bob right?
@@georgesplett7932 Thanks George, yes I meant "Bob", and I just edited my response. Bob Seger is a great singer/writer, and not to have his first name changed by accident. I guess I was tired when I made that slip. Pete Seeger had a big impact on my musical journey, and a few times in the 1980's I got to play washboard and other minor percussion with Pete during casual musical gatherings of musicians. Pete was a great person. But I was writing about Bob.
its such a kick to watch someone listen to this song for the first time when I have listened to it for half a century...fun!
The late great Alto Reed on sax RIP
The expression on your face Young man tells it all!!!😎❤
He's singing about life on the road while being a Performer
MR. SEGER LEGEND
Please check out Night Moves next!! Bob is phenomenal!! ✌❤
You have good taste!
I always love hearing this song, since I live in Omaha. It's awesome that my hometown is mentioned in one of the best songs ever.
Not enough people know about "Get out of Denver". I've known it because I'm from Denver but you hardly hear it anywhere else.
Truly talented he was/is.👍
I have listened & heard this song thousands upon thousands..take for granted..forgotten first love.
Thanks!
Bob's a deep but satisfying rabbit hole.
The man’s an icon in music as one of its greatest influences as a vocalist and songwriter.
You've gotta hit up, Night Moves. No matter who you are or how you were brought up, it'll take you back to your High School days. ⚡️⚡️
Dude, I played sax in high school and I know EXACTLY what you're saying. 👍🏽😎 But my love is drums, which is what I play now.
Yes, Metallica's version is excellent! 🔥
Growing up in Detroit, Bob was a staple in our home. I have see him twice live one before the troat cancer and after and he was amazing both times..... absolute legend!!!
Bob Seger one of the greatest.
Bob Seger is one of the best ,he has so many good songs. Request Strut
One of the best in my time.
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band...Eagle were also great
He talking about being on stage. A rock band on the road. Being on a bus for days. Saxaphone, gave ya chills didn't it.
Seger rocks! Great lyrics in his songs!
