Hey there again! 🥰 Thank you so much for this reaction! I love so much her version of A. Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu", this eerie and ethereal layer of her voice fits so well this song at Christmas time imo, it sends constant chills down my spine whenever I hear it. It's haunting and somewhat dark, yet uplifting at the same time, idk, I just love it! And her vocal skills and control are impressive, I mean, it's so bloody difficult to "hold back" a powerful voice like hers to sing a song almost entirely in pianíssimo like that, evoking this undescribable, almost otherworldly feeling! Wowsers. I love the fact that Tarja expresses her Art in so many forms and so we fans get to see all sides of her as an artist: heavy metal and symphonic rock; classical music but done in a more "popular" way; anual Christmas concerts; dark Christmas projects; a project called Outlanders in which she combines electronic music with her soft as well as classical vocals, electric and acoustic guitars; etc. She's a very versatile musician This brings me to something else... I don't know if you're into classical music (I am, I'm a classical musician, so...😜), so should you wish to see her go full "operatic" (I mean, her purely classical singing so you can hear the difference), I'll be leaving here as well a small list with videos of her classical performances in case you want to check them out and get to know this side of hers, totally worth it: 1. th-cam.com/video/kEFFp3G3cMc/w-d-xo.html . This is an Ave Maria composed by Tarja herself! It is a live performance recorded in 2013. Truly beautiful, strongly recomend that you listen to it. So heavenly, divine and touching, with a stunning arrangement as well! I can't hold back my tears lol 2. th-cam.com/video/T2VIhB7q9uQ/w-d-xo.html . This is a czech opera aria known (in english) as "Song to the Moon", from Dvorák's opera "Rusalka". Tarja sings it beautifully, so expressive, majestic and stunning! 3. th-cam.com/video/761qOzEdl8E/w-d-xo.html . This is the german aria "Mein Herr Marquis", from Johann Strauss' opera "Die Fledermaus". Here she shows some super high notes of her soprano vocal range and an agility that is quite impressive, for her voice has a more dramatic, heavier and darker tone, so it's not an aria exactly for her vocal Fach (the vocal classification of a singer). Considering this, Tarja's done a very good job! 4. th-cam.com/video/4NL6xSHWQv0/w-d-xo.html . This is Tarja singing the well-known Puccini's aria "O mio Babbino Caro". Exquisite and gorgeous! You can't miss it! 5. th-cam.com/video/q1rfx63pf-0/w-d-xo.html . This is "Säv, Säv, Susa" by Jean Sibelius (a Finnish composer). I love this song (it's short but awesome) and the composer! Tarja is really incredible in this one!!! It's clearly recorded from a cellphone, but the audio and image are surprisingly good considering! And trust me, it's worth it listening to her in this! You'll witness her true dramatic, "spinto" soprano power in full; her rendition is so intense, it gives me goosebumps from the beginning as well as her facial expressions lol 6. th-cam.com/video/3groSGNqMBY/w-d-xo.html . This is "Vilja Lied", a german aria by Lehár, where she sings during her "Beauty and the Beat" project, just like "Song to the Moon". Another "must listen" from her classical repertoire! [Now just a quick bit on NW lore and history: they're Finnish and started off back in 1996 with 3 founding members: Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards and main composer/lyricist), Emppu Vuorinen (guitars) and Tarja Turunen (main vocals). Tuomas' original plans were to make folk and acoustic mood music (we can hear that intention hidden in their early album "Angels fall first"), but as soon as they heard Tarja singing (Tuomas and Tarja knew each other since childhood btw) they realized there would be needed a massive sound to support her big, powerful voice. Hence they became a symphonic metal band, practically inventing the genre itself, so they are true pioneers who paved the way to other bands that came after and took inspiration on them, on mixing classical vocals with heavy music. Since the beginning they've had 3 female lead vocalists: Tarja first from 1996 to 2005; Anette Olzon from 2007 to 2012; and now Floor Jansen since 2013. The NW "eras" or lineups are usually associated with these 3 main singers, hence roughly 3 different eras] Thus, Tarja is on the road of her own solo career for quite some time now, since after her departure from Nightwish back in 2005. That's why I'd like to drop down here my recommendations from her if that's alright, for she's matured a lot and has grown so much as an artist. Only through her solo work you can truly get to know her artistry and full talent. Her long, vast, stunning solo work is unlike anything else and definitely deserves more attention, it's creative and overall mindblowing, plus 'tis inspiring how she's constantly improving herself as an artist and a person. I mean, Tarja's Music is another epic, life-changing journey, as much as NW's. Her solo work is full of gems to find out, and since after her departure from NW she's clearly much happier and free to be fully herself. And ever growing vocally and artistically through the years. She's simply a fantastic, hard working, super talented and phenomenal artist who's sometimes a bit underrated by some unfortunately, a remarkably beautiful soul too! Such an amazing artist, so creative, expressive, she plays the piano (since she was 6 actually), became a noteworthy songwriter/composer (yes, most of her songs are written and composed by herself), and a producer, collaborator... And a powerful, captivating performer; I love her stage presence and energy, she always gives all of herself and owns the stage. She's truly one of a kind! I got to see her live a few years ago and wow, what a mesmerizing voice and enthralling presence! She draws in every person in the audience, controls the crowd without having to say a word, as if she's casting a spell or is connected on a deep level, we feel that and she does too, and knows how to use it! The videos can capture a glimpse of that power, but seeing her live... Well, it's an entirely different experience! She's much more energetic on stage now solo than while with NW, yet she managed to keep that same majestic aura and otherworldly presence! And at the same time with a distinctly dramatic expression and deeply human, emotionally charged renditions when it is needed! Also I don't know how to explain it, but I get this feel from her, this vibe sort of like a dark sorceress warrior, Morrighan-like bewitching powerful entity or something lol Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her astounding solo work too. She's such an inspiration to me, her voice and renditions give me deep, spiritually magical Eargasms 💘 A-hem... Sorry about that lol. I just Love her so much! Her heavenly voice and work speak deeply to my soul. Anyway, her musical rock/metal style (apart from her classical music stuff and those other "out of the box" side projects of hers) is very unique and not easily defined, though it still has plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, epic orchestral arrangements, dramatic theatrical "ingredients" and her remarkably dark, powerful operatic vocals (though now she mixes more her classical singing tecnique with a few sort of "contemporary" styles and her strong chest voice in a very singular, non mainstream way). Her solo work is much more versatile, she incorporates and merges aspects of different stylistic elements, and is always experimenting new things in her music without any fear of exploring the unusual, so you never really know what to expect or what she'll do next, AND I find it thrilling, exciting!!! Plus, I love the fact that she walked her own path and found her "artist self", ways to translate her soul into this world through her Art, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, without further ado, back to the list in the next comment🤣 (also just a small selction, many more hidden gems for you to find out yet):
1. th-cam.com/video/6T-Wyw9lYyM/w-d-xo.html . Song "In for a kill". Album "What lies Beneath" (2010). Performance from her 2012 first live-album "Act I". Bombastic! Hear the lion within her roar! 2. th-cam.com/video/K3QmQN7VSNI/w-d-xo.html . This is also from Act I, a kind of mixed version of two of her ballad songs ("Oasis" and "The archive of lost dreams"). Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, sort of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional performance! It brings tears to my eyes! It's sort of a "forgotten" treasure! 3. th-cam.com/video/jxqodwLVdcU/w-d-xo.html . "Love to Hate", this song is part of her 2016 album "The Shadow Self" and the performance recorded in 2018 for her live-album Act II, at London's Metropolis Studios, a more intimate setting, which makes it even more special. Outstanding, breathtaking performance, one of my favorites! Plus, the song has an unusual structure, which is awesome. 4. th-cam.com/video/tv4XWkTWQ0M/w-d-xo.html . "Undertaker", also live for Act II, and another track from "The Shadow Self". Brilliant! You'll love this one, her energy is amazing and the song is epic! 5. th-cam.com/video/UGkbQj8e6JI/w-d-xo.html . "Crimson Deep", also from "What lies Beneath" and performance, from Act I too. It gives me chills, I just love it! 6. th-cam.com/video/TGjkjNXYBWI/w-d-xo.html . "Dead Promises", live at Masters of Rock 2019, and the song is from her 2019 album "In the Raw". Freaking awesome! Great guitar riffs that function as a driving force to the song. Many songs in this album actually have this same characteristic, I think you'll love it. 7. th-cam.com/video/CpxA5JTT5Ec/w-d-xo.html . "Shadow Play", also from her "In the Raw". Link to the studio version for the epic choir and orchestra, but there is an outstanding live performance at Circus Life where she plays piano too, worth checking out. 8. th-cam.com/video/Lq-genEQNLA/w-d-xo.html . "Innocence", from "The Shadow Self" and live at 'Circus Life' in Bucharest, in 2022. Fantastic live version, no backtrack recordings or anything like that, everything literally live! Beautiful, it feels literally alive to me, as the whole concert!! Worth checking out as well is the official video for context 9. th-cam.com/video/R_CQNdPbkzM/w-d-xo.html . That's a double 'cause I couldn't find a better live recording lol, so here it is: live at Luna Park Ride in 2011, first song is "Stargazers" by NW (from their album Oceanborn) but performed during her solo career, and following this she sings her own song "Ciarán's Well" (from her first solo rock album "My Winter Storm"). So epic, her operatic vocals and stage presence going wild, so much energy, sure you'll be blown away 10. th-cam.com/video/yma4r9Ep_kc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ffYuiRtg2LmxJknc . "The Reign", from her first rock album "My Winter Storm", but the performance from Act I. The song itself is alredy beautiful and emotional, definitely a hidden gem, and then what she does here.... So very touching, a unique moment that shows the special bond, reciprocal connection of love and trust between Tarja and her fans. I can't tell you more, you have to witness it lol 11. th-cam.com/video/GxDnhbGTJSs/w-d-xo.html . "Victim of Ritual", live at Woodstock (Poland) in 2016. Insane great music inspired and built on Ravel's Bolero! Crazy vocals, wild energy, she's got such unbelievable stamina and ability to keep jumping and moving all around the stage while singing that way, with so much intensity, engaging the crowd and having fun! 12. th-cam.com/video/6qSuCMKF2n4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aCwfhNlj2Jd026Wo . "Supremacy", it's a Muse cover, live in Milan for Act II. Astonishing presence, thrilling high notes! 13. th-cam.com/video/LIwC7P7zAOk/w-d-xo.html . "Medusa", from her "Colours in the Dark" and live at Metropolis Studios as well. Greek mythology driven, very different atmosphere she evokes here, epic yet mystical, mesmerizing, sort of alluring in a sense, I have not enough words to describe it lol. The studio version is a duet, worth checking out as well 14. th-cam.com/video/1mrBJGdM5_U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iSCLrVdHidzqglu9 . "Eye of the Storm", the only new song in her 2022 compilation album "Best of: Living the Dream", which is a restrospective where she looked back to her career and handpicked songs from her six studio albums. She has such an interesting, remarkable way of putting hints that reference important parts of her personal and professional journey. And there's a unique mix of styles that she merges together, that's all I'm going to say for now lol 15. th-cam.com/video/JFJkCdOUEQg/w-d-xo.html . "Stand Away", this one is actually featuring Tarja. The song is by Angra, a Brazilian melodic power metal band, in a live performance in 2013 I believe. It's another astounding piece of art! Prepare to be blown away by the music and the voices!.. I hope you decide to take this journey as well, whilst continuing your other ones ofc. It's so worth it, I'm sure you'll love it. So that's it! Thank you again❤! And sorry (again) for one more massive comment split in two this time! I know, I'm sort of nuts! lol Edit: I almost forgot! There's this new song by Marko feat. Tarja called "Left on Mars" which you can't miss, I find it so fitting their personal and musical trajectories, and the moment they're living now together. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/1TgQOj3rwzE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=J7J3wems9Too3aLT
Wow! That's a lot of letters here)). I agree Tarja is beautiful, but still Tarja is not for everyone. Unfortunately nowadays classical singing is not as popular as pop singing, and for many people it sounds unfamiliar. I confess I don't like opera and opera voices in general. But I fell in love with this bizarre symbiosis of Tarja's voice and Nightwish music from first song when I heard them in 99. And interesting thing is that over the years I have lost interest in many bands and artists, but not Nightwish and Tarja))))
@@alexr8817 Tarja is very niche and delicate. As you said, not for everyone. But certainly a lot of metal songs were written about her and she still makes the feather fly, without even asking for it.
Thank you for the reaction. She is just amazing. Please do react to Supremacy from Woodstock 2016, Shadow Play live from her Circus life concert and Oasis from her concert in Argentina 2012. The first one is a Muse cover, the last two she composed herself and also wrote the lyrics to Shadow Play which she has said she is proudest of.

In case it is not obvious, Tarja is classically trained, and this is a classic from the classical repertoire. This is not rock Tarja but classical Tarja. "Pie Jesu" is Latin, so it is pronounced roughly like "pea-ay yay-soo".
You'll witness her true dramatic, "spinto" soprano power in full; her rendition is so intense, it gives me goosebumps from the beginning as well as her facial expressions lol
6. th-cam.com/video/3groSGNqMBY/w-d-xo.html .
The NW "eras" or lineups are usually associated with these 3 main singers, hence roughly 3 different eras]
Thus, Tarja is on the road of her own solo career for quite some time now, since after her departure from Nightwish back in 2005. Also I don't know how to explain it, but I get this feel from her, this vibe sort of like a dark sorceress warrior, Morrighan-like bewitching powerful entity or something lol
Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her astounding solo work too.
Worth checking out as well is the official video for context
9. th-cam.com/video/R_CQNdPbkzM/w-d-xo.html . So epic, her operatic vocals and stage presence going wild, so much energy, sure you'll be blown away
10. th-cam.com/video/yma4r9Ep_kc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ffYuiRtg2LmxJknc . I can't tell you more, you have to witness it lol
11. th-cam.com/video/GxDnhbGTJSs/w-d-xo.html .
The studio version is a duet, worth checking out as well
14. th-cam.com/video/1mrBJGdM5_U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iSCLrVdHidzqglu9 . And there's a unique mix of styles that she merges together, that's all I'm going to say for now lol
15. th-cam.com/video/JFJkCdOUEQg/w-d-xo.html .
I know, I'm sort of nuts! lol
Edit: I almost forgot!
Thank you so much for the info and suggestions 🎶🤘🏻❤️
@@purplebutterflywithabrokenwing I thank you! 🥰🖤🤘🎵
I’ll add it to the list thank you ❤️🎶🤘🏻
I would love to see your reaction of her Ave Maria - 2007

Check out Charlotte church singing this on uk TV in the mid 90's (when she was a teenage superstar)
I’ll see if I can bring it up thank you ☺️ ❤️🎶🤘🏻

In case it is not obvious, Tarja is classically trained, and this is a classic from the classical repertoire. This is not rock Tarja but classical Tarja.
"Pie Jesu" is Latin, so it is pronounced roughly like "pea-ay yay-soo".
If you want something that is really funny from Tarja, let me recommend a comic duet that she sang in 2018: th-cam.com/video/j7y3H55wN8k/w-d-xo.html
Thank you I’ll check it out ❤️🎶🤘🏻
