I just thought of a cheat sheet to remember which one is which. Son Clave. 3 equally spaced hits . S-1,O-2,N-3. But with rumba clave, there is more rumba(room) between the 2nd and 3rd hit.

It should fall on the + of 4. On the 4 would be son clave
