Many, many moons ago now, Elijah called my house from a LotR con that my wife's cousin had attended, to wish my young daughter happy birthday. We weren't home, so he left a message on the answering machine (yes, that many moons ago). It was so cool to come home to and to hear THE Frodo telling her to have a wonderful birthday. Elijah Wood was born to play Frodo in the same way Arnie was born to play the Terminator. It's almost unbelievable that he was just a kid in that role. His performance is like one from an actor who has mastered the art. What an amazing casting discovery. He stood out among titan actors.
@@DMalltheway hmmm..nah I get what you mean but I just don't see it having the same feel. Sometimes I wonder what some films would be like if they had picked a different actor and sometimes I just think...if anyone else did that role it would be dead. RDJ as Iron man for example, Michael Keaton as Batman and a long list that just don't really play well with other actors.
I'm someone who suffered with a severe anxiety disorder for about 6 years. I read a great deal about anxiety, in terms of books and research literature. When Elijah mentions that a panic attack came out of nowhere, it's caused by hypochondria. This is when a part of your brain misinterprets bodily sensations as danger and dumps adrenaline into your blood stream to prepare for potential danger. The adrenaline causes more usual bodily sensations which then reinforces the idea in your brain that you're in some kind of danger. And unfortunately, yes, once you experience a panic attack you're always vigilant of another one, which in itself can be a potential trigger.

Elijah Wood and I were born 1 week apart back in January of 1981 and when I was 10, I was a huge admirer of his and I also believed that we were mystically related somehow, or soulmates, as far as a 10 year old could think about such things. I was so serious about my beliefs that I actually sent him FANMAIL. The only time in my life I had ever sent out fanmail. Then one day I almost dropped when I came home from school and discovered that he had sent me a response. my little 10 year old heart a'racing, I opened the envelope and found a card addressed to me and signed by him. I felt the light of God radiating above me. ... until I realized that his signature was printed right into the card itself, and that this was a generic card and not actually personally signed or written by Elijah himself. FIRST TIME I felt heartbroken in my young little life up to that point. I'll never forget that memory. So having said that, happy upcoming birthday to the great and wonderful Elijah Wood from your long lost January 20s 1981 peer! Hope we both have a great year being 44!
Whatever you might think of LotR accuracy wise, that trilogy really was something special in the history of cinema. To be a part of it had to be something special.
Been following the pod loosely for the past 2-ish years, and used to be a big follower of Ryan through Warpzone when I was younger. It’s amazing to see his growth and as a listener, Michael is such a calm unique person. Love love love
Great interview Baumcake! All the best to everybody in 2025, I had a burst appendix, went to the ER and due to it being in the middle of C19 stuff they didn't really want to deal with people in general, sent me home! 23hrs later I went back and refused to leave, 8hrs later I was having emergency surgery! So don't ever let them pass you off with just having "bad stomach ache". I would have died at home had I not gone back.
Another amazing interview Michael, no matter who you have on, you are extremely proficient at setting them at ease. Elijah comes across as a very genuine guy, and your chat was so interesting, hope you guys do have that horror night!
This guy has had such an amazing career for 35 years now! When I first heard who was in the LotR cast back in early 2001 and found out he was going to be Frodo, my response was, “The kid from Deep Impact? Really??” Then, I saw Fellowship on opening day, and pretty soon after, I was watching the earlier films of both Elijah and Viggo. For Viggo, the two that impressed me were A Walk on the Moon and The Prophecy. For Elijah, he had even more films as a child actor that were stand-out movies for me-Avalon, Huck Finn, The War, The Faculty, and The Ice Storm. In all the LotR online fandom, I read lots of anecdotes about the cast members both on set and before the movies. The one that impressed me about Elijah as a child actor was when he presented at the Oscars. Originally, the envelope for that category was going to be opened by Macaulay Culkin. But, about a week before the ceremony, Kit Culkin contacted the showrunners and demanded more money than the standard rate everyone was getting. They told him to F off and then called Elijah’s mom/manager. She said to send over the lines, he showed up at the dress rehearsal a few days later with flawless delivery, then nailed it on the broadcast. The next day, the story of Elijah and his mom’s complete skill and professionalism was all over Hollywood. They earned a lot of respect in the industry that night. (I have the feeling that Elijah was talking about child actors like Macaulay in the podcast when he was talking about becoming famous overnight and how damaging that can be.)
I feel you Elijah. I was 10 years old (1979). when my appendix burst. The doctor thought it was diarrhea, I suffered for 2 weeks. when they got me to the hospital, I died twice on the operating table. They had to remove some of my lower intestines, and I suffer from partial paralysis in my right leg.
This was a great chill and relaxing interview to listen to. It's great to see that Elijah recognizes key elements of his growth and behaviors that come directly from his mom. It kind of made me want to see a video of Elijah calmly painting a Frodo miniature while internally he is telling himself he doesn't want to f--- it up, but is loving the creative process. Note: I would also happily watch Sam Witwer (whom we have seen on the show) painting Darth Maul (as he is vocal about painting miniatures). Second note: If Elijah and Sam want to paint together, this would be even more epic. Third Note: Sam and Elijah, let's hang out and paint sometime.

I didn’t see you there but I hope you’re safe man I don’t think you’ll remember me but you were incredibly kind at Denver Comic Con to me years ago after Kevin Conroy remembered me from a few years back. Love Elijah in ROTK and even in Maniac I wish you two would talk about horror like he did with Kevin Smith. Great episode! Cheers 💫
Such a great individual, his humility is inspiring. Really awesome episode, love watching guests like Elijah.
Love the episode! Need him back to talk horror!! Sadly didn’t get to it but amazing episode
This was fantastic. What a fun chat!
some years ago I've met Michael Rosenbaum and Elijah Wood at a Comic-Con in my home town and you are both amazing human beings.
Wow this autograph thing is nuts.
The lengths people go to never ceases to amaze me.
He does in fact seem like one of the nicest guys!! ❤
Whatever you might think of LotR accuracy wise, that trilogy really was something special in the history of cinema. To be a part of it had to be something special.
Great episode! A follow-up is needed!
Fantastic episode! Always love listening to Elijah!
Been following the pod loosely for the past 2-ish years, and used to be a big follower of Ryan through Warpzone when I was younger. It’s amazing to see his growth and as a listener, Michael is such a calm unique person. Love love love
I Love hearing the LOTR stories from him. You need to get Orlando Bloom on ur show!
So ready and excited for yellowjackets to come back! No return(intro song) is on rotation in one of my spotify playlists 😂 great interview
I met Elijah some years ago in Copenhagen. Definitly the nicest celebrity I ever met, along with Peter Serafinowicz, Brian Cox & Damian Lewis.
Congrats to him playing Scarecrow in Arkham Shadow. He did awesome. He deserved that role 👏
Michael wearing the flag of the great state of Indiana on the show today! 💯 Gotta represent us Hoosiers 😅
Deep Impact is one of my favourite films of his and his humility always came across in his performance as Frodo.
It's amazing how about halfway through you hear Elijah fully get comfortable with the convo really open up
Hi Inside of you team thank you for another great guest 👍
A guy that would be cool to have a beer and a conversation with. Cool dude
He was thr perfect person to play Frodo. He did such a great job. He and Ian McKellen were perfectly cast
Met Elijah Wood last year, he was fantastic, hope to talk to him again soon....
My appendix burst also, that was the most spot on description of it
Awesome guest as always keep it up! hopefully you get more of the LOTR cast on the podcast.
Condolences for the loss of your grandma.
Yeah, it was great this first the the new year 👌. I am really awesome to listen Elijah!!!!!
Michael jinxed 2025 from jump.
Elijah is still adorable and seems like a good human ❤
Note Four: Bring Sam Witwer back and you can paint Lex Luthor for him while he paints Darth Maul for you.
