"In the morning it was all still there, the spilt milk and the dog turds, in that grey ash tray morning light"..... Jarvis' lyrics are so clever and down to earth. He writes about real life. His early stuff was magnificent!
Ladies and gentlemen, give a warm welcome for the world's reigning champion of expressive hands, Jarvis Cocker! And for a British man, he sure has a compellingly primal way of dancing! Loose and uptight at the same time, somehow. Few can do this.
I love the band's early years, very straightforward, brave and open to anything. Truly, the best band of its time, their massive success in the mid-90's was so deserved. Very artistic... Just great.
This has to be by far the best user created music video I've seen on the TH-cam. You have a great talent and, obviously, a lot of patience to put all these clips together into a great video for a great song. Thank you!
Just watched it again. I’m from Portugal, Pulp is my favourite band ever, and in 2011 went to watch them twice (in Barcelona and Paredes de Coura). It’s just killing me that I’m not seeing them this year in the UK, what would be the best place to make a cheeky fight and see them in concert?
I find it interesting, you look at alot of this (such as the Like A Friend portion) and you see a nutty, lovable Sheffield bloke, but if you... really get into the music and his whole little world, it's all rather miserable and dark. Jarvis Cocker, the best walking contradiction, ever.
Love this! Makes me think of an old Crack the Sky song..."He's a dancer, and he sparkles and he shines..." Britpop88 - your creativity and Pulp love has made my day! Thank you!!
Give me the city Give me the sea Give to me everything I need The future is shining Like a giant metal beast It shines so bright tonight With its legs open wide And love is blind Falls in love with itself again Like it never should The way it always can And she is mine But the world is much bigger now Oh, tell me, should I hold her hand And give her love Or take her heart and throw it far away? Oh, now is the time to jump into it all I'll just hold my nose and try not to fall To seek and to find, instead of walking around With eyes glued to the sky I turn them down to the ground Oh, and I used to think that maybe one day I'd find the love of my life Oh, but it's so far away, oh, I don't know why Oh but I, I want it all tonight And love is blind Falls in love with itself again Like it never should The way it always can Oh, and she is mine But the world is so much bigger now Oh, tell me, should I hold her hand And give her love Or take her heart and throw it far away? We held hands And we looked out of the bedroom window We could see all the buildings collapsing around us, so we kissed And we laid on the bed And we waited for the ceiling to fall in But it never did In the morning it was all still there The spilled milk and the dog-turd In that grey ashtray morning light I could hear thousands of people And they were all singing this song La-la-la-la-la Hey, butcher! Oh, oh, oh, hey, butcher! What's your name? Oh, hey, butcher, what's your game? Oh, you take all their love And you suck out their eyes And then you rip out their hearts And you eat their insides Yeah, then you just walk away With a smile on your face Hey, butcher, hey, butcher I've seen your face before And la, na-na-na, na, na-na, na Mm mm, na-na-na, na, na-na, na And love is blind
i fucking love pulp and thanks 4 uploading this cos ive heard no songs from separations.. but im going to have to get a copy of the album from somewhere!
They were for Tomorrow Never Dies, but they went with Sheryl Crow instead /-: Pulp's effort turned up as a Help The Aged b-side - called Tomorrow Never Lies.
Jarvis actually mentioned in one interview how blur supposedly copied the drums from this song (would makes sense since separations came out before modern life is rubbish)
Good Lord, neuropharmacology sounds pretty advanced for a science requirement! It's painful doing nothing but tons of memorization. Best of luck to you (and your brain)!
What course are you taking that involves enzymatic reactions? I recently had the final exam for my first med school class. It never ceases to amaze me how many science people enjoy great music!

Absolutely

Jarv is an absolute legend , every song tells a story. Enjoying his new book. Good pop, bad pop.

Love this! Makes me think of an old Crack the Sky song..."He's a dancer, and he sparkles and he shines..."

Give me the city
Give me the sea
Give to me everything I need
The future is shining
Like a giant metal beast

With its legs open wide
And love is blind
Falls in love with itself again
Like it never should
The way it always can
And she is mine
But the world is much bigger now
Oh, tell me, should I hold her hand
And give her love
Or take her heart and throw it far away?
Oh, now is the time to jump into it all
I'll just hold my nose and try not to fall
To seek and to find, instead of walking around
With eyes glued to the sky
I turn them down to the ground
Oh, and I used to think that maybe one day
I'd find the love of my life
Oh, but it's so far away, oh, I don't know why
Oh but I, I want it all tonight
And love is blind
Falls in love with itself again
Like it never should
The way it always can
Oh, and she is mine
But the world is so much bigger now
Oh, tell me, should I hold her hand

Or take her heart and throw it far away?
We held hands
And we looked out of the bedroom window
We could see all the buildings collapsing around us, so we kissed
And we laid on the bed
And we waited for the ceiling to fall in
But it never did
In the morning it was all still there
The spilled milk and the dog-turd
In that grey ashtray morning light
I could hear thousands of people
And they were all singing this song
La-la-la-la-la

Oh, hey, butcher, what's your game?
Oh, you take all their love
And you suck out their eyes
And then you rip out their hearts

Yeah, then you just walk away
With a smile on your face
Hey, butcher, hey, butcher
I've seen your face before
And la, na-na-na, na, na-na, na
Mm mm, na-na-na, na, na-na, na
And love is blind

They were for Tomorrow Never Dies, but they went with Sheryl Crow instead /-: Pulp's effort turned up as a Help The Aged b-side - called Tomorrow Never Lies.
What's the video in which Mr. Cocker's in that green shirt?
THE MAN!
But what is that from, at 1.26-27, where he's tied up in a chair?
You couldnt upload that black and white performance of Death II could you?
Drums sound like sunday sunday by Blur!
Jarvis actually mentioned in one interview how blur supposedly copied the drums from this song (would makes sense since separations came out before modern life is rubbish)

@norristarse - If there were more Brits like Jarvis, you could pass for a likable nation..
