great vids ... tx ... planning our Mongolia trip right now... on a MB AROCS 6X2 + HAD .. we indeed do tend to over-off-road-equip our vehicles... :) ... looks like no one will get through anything... then you see a movie with a ducato 2WD -and no clearance- camper doing the same thing ... or a 40ft container blasting by ... :)

Great video, great adventure and loved the narration. Big truck vs land rover. Easier to unstick, bush fix a land rover but so much nicer to do a trip like that with a reasonable size camper on the daf. Contemplating buying an ex military daf and add a demountable camper box. Cheap to buy but daunting upkeep compared to a defender... ?

Thanks so much for your kind words. I do miss the old truck! As a Landrover/Volvo TGB 6x6/Daf enthusiast, the benefit, in my opinion, of a big truck is simply that it carries 2 or 3 weeks of food, water and fuel easily. It also feels a little safer in a big box, but slightly more detached from the world when you close the door. For me, longer periods away in the emptier parts of the world formed a key part of my plan. The worry of a big truck is significant though and I still thank my lucky overlanding stars that nothing happened that I couldn't fix/bodge, they really are a pain to recover and it gets truly worrying and expensive for the fancy trucks. The DAFs are good and cheap but I would spend all my pennies on spares and the basics (I didn't even have solar panels) and then just leave! Don't go too fancy as I reckon you'll have a better overall experience. Smaller vehicles are great for driving, especially if you like cities, but for me, horrible to adventure in because you have to be so organised and being a little more exposed to people and temperatures, getting a good rest is sometimes harder. Im getting carried away now but I wish you all the very best with your plans and if you can head to Mongolia for a couple of months one summer it is truly the best place (Even if only in a panel van with nobblys and a winch!). On a silly note, I was routinely outclassed by Toyota Prius's in Mongolia 😁, some of the places they went too were astonishing....

@@edwardcanney1499 thanks for the tips. Im based in Canada now and my long distance and remote area trips have all been in North America so far. Mongolia looks interesting but I have a hankering to roam the tracks of Australia first.

@@pwatom22 Well you've got some serious adventures on your doorstep! I'm ploughing through the All 4 Adventure series at the moment, Australia looks superb in so many ways. Good luck and all the best with your travels
