- Another rough edit of our trip in 2014 and a bit boring! We were heading for the Pamirs via Uzbekistan's famous Silk Road Cities. The roads are long, hot and dusty but it builds your stamina up for the rest of the trip! Uzbek diesel could only be purchased on the black market and we learnt to stay in compounds where possible to avoid having our fuel stolen for a second time (over 400L). Lots of people follow this route on the Mongol Rally so its well trodden but its a fascinating and harsh landscape that leads you to many of Asia's highlights. I don't know what the situation is now but we were charged a $400+ to temporarily import the vehicle, because its a truck. If you speak Russian well enough you might be able to explain that its a motorhome forcefully enough to avoid it; as was done by one other truck overlander we met. Otherwise you pay your money and then a little more when you leave! I think the border crossings and stolen fuel emptied our pockets to the tune of $1000 alone and that's, as they say, 'life.'
truck tour..!
Loving your travels and vids , is there anymore on the way ?? Pleasssse 👍 and any chance of a cheeky tour of your awesome truck ?
Thanks for your kind words. I never planned on putting these online, we filmed bits only for memories. I am useless at the editing bit but hopefully I will get a few more on over the coming months as I'm getting to the point of forgetting things and it's a nice way to recap 😁. My wife wrote a blog "Maidstone to Magadan" and there are a few photos of the inside of the truck on that. Sadly I sold the truck last summer so I can't do a tour for you. We made it very simply, all very basic but homely but I made sure the basics of heat, water filtration, power were as good as I could afford. I didn't even have solar panels! I hope you have some truck-fun planned and good luck with any future travels
