    So many surf fishing videos I've watched and almost none mentioned the need for a shock leader. Thanks for this info.

      Shock leaders allow you to catch many more fish without the fear of a break off. I would replace all of my shock leaders every trip out. All it takes is a slight Nick to weaken it and a second day of use to break it. Thank you for watching our videos.

    I've made over 30 of these rigs. I take a few with me when I go fishing and there's always someone who asks me how I tie them and I usually sell the rig at a cost that covers the material. I tie my rigs during the off season and when I'm ready I have about 20 sitting in a bag. The video on making the floats are awesome as well. Dollar tree flip flops A-1.

    If you are making a two loop rig, then the first segment you measure out 14 inches, then 16 inches for the middle segment, and 14 inches for the last segment. The reason for this is, when you get done fishing at the end of the day, and take your sinker off and connect the snap swivel to one of your eyelets, and then connect your hooks together. There will be tension on them. If that middle segment is too short, then there will be slack on the hooks and they will come apart while traveling. The final loops are approximately 5 inches long. If you watch the video, you’ll notice that I cut my loops, which makes each leader approximately 8 inches long after tying hook on. That allows my bait to get higher in the water column where pompano travel. They are not a bottom feeders and usually travel a little higher than a lot of other species, it might help keep the catfish away from bait as well.

    Thanks for the video,l usually use 30 pound test and some say even lighter will get you more bites but nobody wants to break line.

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave, I use a 13’6” surf rod and a 5 ounce sinker. The 30lb test would be too weak for me during a cast. I also use a 50lb shock leader.

    Yes, Glasses are probably the next best thing for your tackle box too!! Anyway, what is your twisting tool made from or how did you make it, that you use to twist the loop knots with?

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Jesse, the spinner used to be made of 3/8 inch inside diameter, soft copper tubing. It was quite a chore making hundreds of them and I sanded through my fingerprints several times. Since that time I have developed a spinner that is made of PLA plastic, and created on a 3-D printer. it’s much more affordable for people to purchase that from me in my spinner kit. Watch the making the GEN3 video. It will show you step-by-step on how to make the copper spinner if you prefer to make one for yourself. The 3-D spinner works just as good and can be purchased from eBay as well.
      On Ebay search for Pompano Brownie.
      The kit gives you 2 - Spinners and hardware for making the Gen1. You provide board and clamps.

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Chuck, after tying the knots, they end up averaging around 7 to 8 inches long from the rig to the hook.

    Just finished my Gen 3 on. Tied a few. works perfect as advertised. My concern is the cut loop. After completing the rig it seemed to foul quite a bit. My rigs with hook, float, and bead attached with the uncut loop stays more at a right angle. Thoughts?

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Maybe your using mono that’s less than 50lb test. If you like the uncut loop stick with it. These are your custom rigs.

    Brownie, I've watched several of your vids about tying rigs using your jig, I cannot find where you explain the peg in middle. Is that for making smaller loops, if so why would you make them shorter?

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Denver, good point. My GEN3 was modeled after my Dad’s jig. He hardly ever made the short loops but I included that middle peg to pay tribute to his original design.

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Normie, I made one last batch of 73 of the GEN3 jigs that I’m selling on EBay. As of 2-18-2024 I have 10 left. I’ve made hundreds of these over the years, and make diddly for profit. Plus, the post office is raisedthe rates again.I decided that this last batch of 73 would be it for me. The good news is, I have instructional videos on how to build a GEN3 or a more affordable GEN1 kit I have on EBay. Just go to EBay and do a search for Pompano Brownie and you’ll find my products. Tight Lines my friend.
