In general, it is a sound perception that everyone likes or what their hearing is like. I am a sound engineer and work with very high-quality and great equipment. When I listen to the Harman in the factory settings, one thing bothers me enormously. The Logic 7 plug-in falsifies a really good sound mix enormously, no matter what the sound guys from Harman Kardon measured and set here. The sound recording would also have to be in surround, not to mention that the Harman Kardon is not a real THX surround sound system, and neither is the Bowers & Wilkins. These are just EQ and panning presets. In the BMW G31 iDrive 6, the treble needs to be raised by 4 clicks, the bass by 3 clicks, then lower one click in the equalizer setting at 500Hz, and raise one click at 5Khz and 10Khz. Finally, set the front and rear panorama setting 2 clicks forward, that's how the Harman sounds best to me. Already mentioned, the Logic7 switches off. I don't know how the iDrive 7 Harman setting sounds. But with some of the settings presented here on YT, I can only shake my head, sorry guys. It is clear that with some settings the pressure of the system is increased or better perceived. But if you listen to many genres of music, one or the other will probably have to suffer. It’s all relative my man. No single set of EQ settings can be applied to all music genres other than flat or neutral which is what the default is. Basically…there are no secret settings.
I have two 2021 BMWs, one with the H/K system, one without; both systems are only ok. I’ve upgraded the systems in both which made a substantial improvement in the systems: no comparison with stock. The Logic 7 surround setting sucks; destroys sound stage. Adding a trunk sub is absolutely necessary as the 8 inches under the seats are only mid bass drivers. Once you’ve heard an upgraded system; you’ll understand how average the system was before. I agree that the flat EQ settings on the system make the system sound very muddy and lifeless and the equalizer is a must to work with; however, the center channel that is tired into the left side components really distracts from a good sound stage The basic tone controls are not fine tuning; they simply increase or decrease the bass or treble settings in the equalizer as one.
Based on my understanding, parent company Harman’s Logic7 DSP was licensed from Lexicon, a high end home audio company. Logic7 tries to reproduce what the original soundtrack would have sounded like, albeit using only regular stereo 2-channel source. The BMW 3-series Logic7 also pipes the bass into the B-pillars to efficiently use that space. I love my Logic7 and I feel like I’m sort of an audiophile
Is there any way to update the idrive software to be current? I tried searching on the bmw software update website and entered my vin number but gives me an error message. Been trying this for months to see if our idrive has any new updates. Just curious. As always great content bro!
You can find download files for the latest version online and I think there’s a way to make the update. I admit I don’t know much about it, I’d say check the forums
Hi. If you take it to, better yet, call ahead, to United BMW (I'm in Atlanta), or BMW of ____ (whatever city you're in). They should update for you, free of charge... or at least the should. If not, then respectfully decline and dip out... QUICK! Worse case, you can download it (it's definitely online) on a Jump Drive and update it yourself. Hope this helps.
These settings were designed specifically for E92 coupes with iDrive and the Logic 7 stereo. They would be different even if you have a E90 sedan that’s otherwise the same setup. Check the forum link in the video description for more detail and try different settings to see what you like more
