- Get ready to be amazed as you watch the Boeing 777X perform a shocking, almost vertical takeoff during an airshow flying display at Farnborough 2022. This footage was captured from multiple angles, including 3 different cameras, giving you a complete view of the incredible moment. The powerful GE9X engines propel the aircraft upward, leaving onlookers speechless and in awe of the aircraft's capabilities. This video showcases the future of aviation technology and gives an in-depth look at the power and capabilities of the Boeing 777X. Don't miss your chance to witness the aircraft's jaw-dropping takeoff from every angle !
The Boeing 777X is the latest series of the long-range, wide-body, twin-engine jetliners in the Boeing 777 family from Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The 777X features new GE9X engines, new composite wings with folding wingtips, greater cabin width and seating capacity, and technologies from the Boeing 787.
The General Electric GE9X is a high-bypass turbofan developed by GE Aviation exclusively for the Boeing 777X. It first ran on the ground in April 2016 and first flew on March 13, 2018; it powered the 777-9's maiden flight in early 2020.

Wouldn't the tail portion of the aircraft hit the runway at such takeoff angles?

Amazes me how much shear stress the engine mounts can take without ripping the engines clean off the airframe.
@Xarifa Zee it has a max takeoff weight of 759,000 lbs. it was designed to support that much weight. what the heck are you talking about it being empty for? like its not close to 1 million lbs of usable payload on that airframe (which, yes, the engine mounts are in fact very impressive to handle the 110,000 lbs of force EACH at full throttle) thats a LOT of force on those wings.

An airliner has so much thrust that it can vertical climb. truly remarkable
It doesn't but 777 has the highest thrust to weight ratio of an airliner but its not 1 or more, it's maybe a 40-50° pitch up, maybe 60°. Normal is 15 for until 1000 ft or so then 10-12. Fighter jets can have TWR of 1.2 or so, they can really climb vertically. And rockets of course. 1.5 is typical like Falcon 9 or many other. SPRINT missile had the highest. Mach 10 in 10 seconds. It began to glow red hot and had a heat shield on the nose cone. It was meant to carry a nuke and intercept an incoming barrage and blow them out of the sky. Cancelled one day after becoming operational. Check footage it's spectacular.

I'm not too bothered they can take off vertically like that. It's the vertical landings that have always stopped me actually boarding one.
I've always loved this plane. When I was in high school I loved it because it was Boeing's first plane designed fully in CAD, and I was taking a CAD class which I thought was so cool. I've flown on it many times, and will never forget the sports car-like feeling of acceleration when the pilots opened up those GE GenX engines on the runway. The plane would press you into your seat. On one flight our captain informed us he was going to burn a little more fuel to make up for lost time on the ground, and get us there on time. That, plus a tailwind, was the fastest I'd gone in my life at speeds in the 600s (MPH), as reported within the cabin. What an amazing marvel of a machine.
The 777 is my favorite. Flew one into Kilimanjaro once, where there is no jetway. You exit via boarding stairs. Walking on the tarmac next to those engines is really something…You can’t really grasp their scale until you’re standing right next to them.
Stop saying tarmac. Doesn't exit. Try apron, runway, or taxiway instead.
You flew INTO Kilimanjaro? 🤣

You know the real Boeing specialty is in vertical landings 😏
The crowd is speechless also when the landing is vertical.
Flying out of John Wayne airport (Orange County, California), our Southwest Airlines pilot informed us passengers that due to noise abatement laws we would be performing this exact type of takeoff.
Even informed, it was exciting though slightly nerve-wracking to experience it.
I flew out of there too...made a video of it! Very exciting takeoff!
I don’t like flying out of John Wayne for that exact reason. It freaks me out to go so vertical in the take off.
I was going to comment the same. It's so the Beverly Hills stars nearby aren't disturbed :)
Flying into that airport is the same deal sometimes. Depending on which landing, steep decline last minute. I used to live next door to it and our windows were double pan. I never heard a thing indoors.
The plane loses velocity during the steep part so the pilots will have to timely bring it back to near horizontal flight to speed back up, as is visible in the vidoes here; no doubt that type of takeoff can be automated, this plane most likely is equipped for that because it went just perfect.
As a cockpit window for the past 23 years, this is fantastic
