I love when Roland says at 4:47 that the internet is fabulous cause helps to have a connection with the fans! It was so Sweet! Beyond being a music genius he is in my opinion truly adorable! ❤
i agree! Both are great looking guys and ultra talented, and are soft spoken and articulate! i love their interviews and hearing them speak! I have a crush on Roland. But both are beautiful men!
@@carolfreitag6847 Same both men are super talented and handsome but I cant help it I just fancy Roland. The voice the song writing talent and having big hazel green eyes pouty lips and an amazing smile doesn't hurt either. Fyi I like your version of Mad World is much better
When I was eleven this songs from the big chair was the first cassette I ever got. I grew up pretty poor so for me it was a big deal. Little did I know not only what an amazing album it was but how it would shape me as a music enthusiasts and later as a vocalist. Having Roland to mimic paved the way for me to find my range and serenity. They were so ahead of their time. At eleven I would fall asleep to "I believe" now what child would do that....,,,, one that knows what an amazing sound is......
Roland is sooooo beautiful when he smiles!! I hate it when he's sour looking!! Makes me mad at him,, cause he's got so much to smile for! Popularity, looks, money(?), a beautiful wife and kids, a nice life seemingly! Even if he got a rough start in life,, so did I!
rolandorme .well he cant help it. He had a hard child hood life. He had depression because of it. But i think hes managed to get over it plus he & curt werent getting on very well when they were younger. I guess roland was just miserable in his life really cos of things that didnt really help but hes happier now .
rolandorme . Some people dont realise that its not always that easy. Its not just a case of come on youve got loads of money .a great acareer . A lovely wife unfortunetly she passed away in 2017 . 2 hamsome sons . Its hard to get over depression. Which he had in his life. Im sure hes not that bad in his life. Did you have depression did you know it feels like. Even Adam ant had a shit pass in his life & sufferd a really bad bout of. Depression which in the end sent him hospital is now better than he was .still abit grumpy but im also proud to say that ge even took time & trouble to play a tour in plymouth pavillions which i have to say me & my sister really enjoyed last year & hope he comes back again . But id love to see tffs in there aswell. I dont know if it was the same for roland but i know from Adams book which he wrote back about a decade ago that he really did have a shit life what with suffering from biopar disorder & stuff like that where as roland just had a rough child hood experiencing seeing his father have a nervous breakdown &that his mother sufferd years of abuse from him. Roland mustve found life hard expectually now the poor guy lost his beloved wife last year. Im sure he smiles sometimes in his life. I mean he must ve happy at some point other wise he wouldnt write such cool songs . And it was him who missed curt & took time &trouble to find him.
Janette San Juan . It mustve been hard for him in his life. Putting up his father abusing his mother. But i think he eventually realised that he drove curt out of the band. I do feel sorry for him loosing caroline .his wife. I think hes a good song writter.
This is a very nice interview, thank you so much! dmarquis8, I agree with you. and please allow me to re-use your word.. It is very nice that they're creating not fragile but more 'solid' songs in a time like this where disposable songs come in the chart and go out next week.
MrMillennium67 . Yeah i agree. I liked the way roland said .ruined it for us. Reffering to gary jules obviously. I think GJ,s version slow &boringif im honest but its good that he took an interest in it. As for lorde. Nah. I.ll stick to curts version of everybody wants to rule thanks.
Tears For Fears rules! I download their music a lot. My parents have heard of this British/English band before. I miss listening to their music on the car radio.
"Mad World" was perfect when it came out. Complimenting another's version of one of your songs is just professional courtesy. Nothing more. Loved the album, "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending." One of my top ten favorites.
I like to look at them as "different" not better or worse as the case may be. I see TFF's original speaks more of an frenetic-type of mad world and Gary's version speaks to me more of a sad-lonely mad world. So while they're similar in meaning, they're different in feel if that makes any sense. Just my 2 cents. I like BOTH versions, but I DO have a special place in my heart for TFF - always will!
I'm obsessed with Roland. He is a musical genius who is more interested in the creation of the music, rather than the glitz, glamour and fame. That's what Curt was about when he was younger. I don't blame Curt though, he was drop dead gorgeous, so who can blame him for embracing everything that came with fame. Anyway, I just pray they stay together as I can tell that Roland has a huge caring heart. Curt is more of a passive aggressive person, keep a grudge til death. Note how Roland had to make the first move. Just kiss and make up guys. You're like brothers and family fights sometimes, but the love keeps them together. And oh yeah, Tears For Fears is the greatest band..💜💜
I've seen multiple clips and Roland seems to value and appreciate the fans. I've seen TFF 3 times (1993, 1996 & 2023) and he has always been so friendly onstage. Maybe way back in the day that was true but look at clips from the 2000s on...he is wonderful engaging and kind to the fans
@sksen he runs about 10 miles on average a day...maybe 6 hours a week. What I learned from him is persistance. When I do a jogging routine or some sort of race walk I (and now my cousin) notice significant difference. I'm going to keep it up& see what happens. My cousin looks great. me not so much...she does his routine everyday... Me, twice a week.
@vne070908 curt smith is the fountain of youth! He's truly a fit man. Great exercise advice too... and it works. I dropped a dress size when I followed it religously.
If you don't own songs from the big chair? I would recommend the hurting, only one of the best written and recorded records...ever. I too think the orig Mad World by TFF us WAY better. Those synths and the bands vocals make the song shine. More layers, depth, and hooks by far.
How old is this interview? Curt looked so young here. Now he looks 20 years old. His body is ok but his face is aging. Probably because he has no or low body fat. As we age, we shouldn't get skinny because it makes you look older, makes those wrinkles pop..
i think it will never be that special as in the 80's. The contact between them seems odd sometimes- not real warm TFF such talents- 80s will be the best time in my life, still and for ever
He doesn’t hate fans, I feel that at some points there may be times when your not enjoying lots of fans cuz you BBC ant get lots of attention but tff love their fans even if they do get a little uncomfortable at times

Roland cracking wise at 5:14 and giggling as Curt runs with it...what a couple of boys :D
Are you sure that was roland and not the interviewer?

that reporter doesn't have to worry about ME; i just picked up songs from the big chair on vinyl ;)

Hello La Vida Loca! This Interview is so Sweet! Roland never Said he hates fans! For contrary listen with attention.
Actually it was Curt who made the first move, sending a fax to Roland.
@@danalacy3283 thank you, I'm glad someone is listening to what they're saying instead of what they want to hear.

One can’t cut his hair and the other just can’t dress up. Still love them for their persistence down to earth personalities and off course music.
