Honestly this video brought me so much comfort I haven't experienced pain or anything weird yet its day 3 but I'm always so paranoid. Thank you for this video, the last dentist I watched made me cry! I was so scared lol
Just had two molars in my lower jaw yanked out and I’m paranoid as hell myself too. My blood pressure is high. When I was going through bouts of pain before the extraction I actually had my first anxiety attack ever. I swear to god I was dying. I don’t handle pain very well anymore. It looks to me like the clot is gone. No pain yet. It’s been two days now. Oh lord I hope I didn’t lose the clot all the way down to the root. I’m hungry as hell and I want to eat some substantiative food so freaking bad.
@@tomaszgolebiowski5321 because when air makes contact with exposed nerves it’s insanely painful, so if you don’t have pain when you breathe in heavy than you know your sockets are healing properly!
Thank you for telling me that it’s normal for the healing process to look grey and yellowish because I was fearing for my life I was gonna get dry socket!
Oh my gosh, this video helped me so much. I have been driving myself crazy thinking I have dry socket. But it definitely doesnt hurt and it looks like how you said a normal healing should look like. Thank you so much!
This was so informative. I'm having a tooth pulled Monday and I'm apprehensive. I feel better knowing that dry sockets only occur in 10% of extractions. Thank you!
Got 4 wisdom teeth removed this morning, the dentist never told me about smoking so I smoked 3 blunts within 2 hours, my friend comes over and gave me more info than the dentist and probably just saved me from dry socket, I’ve also watched 4 different types of these videos and you explain it best
I wish my dentist was half as attentive as you are. I had 4 teeth removed last week and he didn’t even explain anything about dry socket, just waited for my mouth to be stuffed with gauze to ask me questions. I only found out about dry socket the day after via my mother. Now I am terrified, have only eaten soup once a day the past 3 days for fear any swallowing action might dislodge the clot. There is a greyish off white colour covering the holes in my lower teeth, slightly hollow but not deep..I have been in bed terrified to move or do anything and was incredibly worried as I had seen a site claim gray colouration is a sign of dry socket, thank god I found your video which had well informed me and eased my stress a little. The worst thing to do is use the internet to self diagnose but I had never heard of dry socket before my extraction and I feel my dentist was incredibly negligent in offering proper post dental care precautions aside from a little bag telling me to eat soft foods, no straws and to avoid smoking or alcohol which was easy for me as I don’t smoke or drink alcohol. It is just incredibly disappointing that I’ve had to look to a TH-cam video for support and understanding. Thank you ever so kindly Dr Shessel for an informative video on this matter. I am hoping I do not have dry socket, I am on day 3 since the surgery, no terrible pain but I’m being told I will not know till day 4,5 or 7.
Did you end up getting one ?or heal fine that comment just screamed what I'm doing now I'm on my 3rd day and have only drank soup and sitting up in bed shit*ing myself about a dry socket
I am on day 6 after having my lower right side molar out, i am a smoker an have not smoked, drank alcohol and eaten protein rich blended foods but still so paranoid about getting dry socket. This video really helped, Google on the other hand makes me more paranoid everytime. Bless you Doc an thanks💉💉
J. C. Oh no ouch 😣 I got mine done on Monday and been in pain since, I’ve been having like a throbbing pain, I actually go to my dentist today Just to make sure it’s not a dry socket. Call ur dentist and see if they can check it.
Danielle_lb just talked to oral surgeon and they said pain is the worst on around day 4 and 5. I purchased a product called Tooth Kill which has clove oil ... I had gotten it online, but they say Walgreens and others have it.... applied it on gums and around tooth. It numbs the pain and really helps along with ibuprofen/Tylenol mix. Dr also said to lightly rinse with warm salt water mix. I’m trying everything..
@@titoperez1327Wow. That's great compared to myself. I just started the salt water rinse a few hours ago. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to or not because of the dry socket and my dentist didn't bring it up. But I'm getting some relief from it. Thank you for replying. 🙂
Thank you so much! I think your video was the most helpful video that I’ve watched. I am having extreme pain that is radiating to my temple in my ear… It started happening a couple days post surgery. I am going to the dentist soon but I wanted to make sure so I don’t waste anybody’s time. I appreciate you saying that you cannot see the clot readily. Thank you so much!
There are so many different scenarios. My pain started to increase on the 2nd or 3rd day after my lower wisdom tooth extraction. I played shinny hockey the next day after the extraction (dentist said it was ok if I played). It is now 1 week after the extraction; The pain (6.5 out 10) comes and goes. Tylenol 3 seems to get me through it. I just now (1 week after extraction) decided to pack the site with gauze and bite down. It hurt more for a few minutes then subsided a bit. It doesn't seem to make the pain worse when I draw air into my mouth with a deep breath (without gauze present); that is a good sign. The dentist had to cut a bit of the bone during the extraction, so I guess I should expect a fair bit of pain for awhile still. I am going back to the dentist for another filling in 4 days, so if I can tough it out until then, he can have a look at it then. The initial swelling of my cheek has gone down substantially; that is a good sign. I probably started eating solid foods too soon and too vigorously after a couple of days from the extraction. Doing it over again I would probably be more careful about hard food straying over to the site and occasionally cramming down on it (ouch). I'm kinda dumb like that sometimes... 'big dumb nut'. I feel like it could be all ok though. I need to have more patience for another week or two I guess... and keep food from jamming into the site. Keep rinsing with warm salt water. If it turns out that I do indeed have a dry socket I will do a follow up in comments here.
I am in horrible pain. It started on day three post-extraction. It is now been a week still in pain. I take Norco 10, Neurontin, Motrin 800 mg, and Aspirin 162 mg. I take them all at once along with using a topical oral and double-strength topical numbing gel. My last resort was trying to puncture the swollen area with a needle to see if I had an abscessed tooth. Tooth Pain is the worst pain.
I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. There shouldn't be any swelling associated with a dry socket, so you may have something else going on that needs to be evaluated. I'd head back to your oral surgeon for a post-operative visit. I hope you feel better. Dr. Aiken
You cannot tell if the clot is still present just by looking, it is deep within the socket where you cannot see. The oral surgeon will go by your level of pain and generally the gums around the socket will look inflamed.
Currently dealing with dry socket for the first time. Started day 4 post extraction on upper back molar presumably due to being on birth control since I followed all the instructions 100% or the fact it was a moderately traumatic extraction (one of the roots was extremely hard to pull). I’m on day 10 post extraction. Had my dentist clean and pack the site 3 days ago and that helped until it dissolved today. I also have a perforated sinus that I believe is draining into the site. Scared it will never heal while my sinus is messed up, but they want to wait for the socket to heal before deciding on surgery for the sinus. Horrible pain, zero pain meds (yay post opioid pandemic America). Worst experience of my life. Your video at least gives me hope that this will eventually heal.
Hey. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Dry socket definitely is less common in the upper jaw, but can still happen. It usually resolves spontaneously by about 10 days, so you should be getting better each day. If the sinus is involved, that complicates things. Please follow-up with your surgeon. Good luck! Team OSSA
I can’t figure out if it’s that or if I’m just sore. It’s been 5 days since they pulled them, my pain is slightly getting better but when I eat it goes back to the normal throb or pain I’ve had since day 2-3. I don’t see a clot but the bone is grayish/yellow. I’ve had bad breath and a terrible taste in my mouth but I did saltwater washes and brush my teeth twice before bed and I don’t have that bad breathe. I’m so confused and frustrated.
Hello. A few of the symptoms are consistent with a dry socket, but others aren't. Keep things clean and treat the discomfort with Ibuprofen, and any dry socket symptoms should resolve by about 10 days after the surgery. Take care.
When I tell you do not smoke cigarettes or weed after having a tooth extracted, you best take heed and listen. I was one of those that didn't listen and the blood clot did not heal. The dry socket was more painful than the abscess that I had before the extraction. It was even more painful than when I had fractured my tailbone. I remember going to the emergency room because the oral surgeon was closed. They ended up having to get me four local anesthetics in the jaw just to dull the pain. Then they had to give me a shot of Valium and Versed so I could fall asleep until the office opened up in the morning. Trust me do not smoke and do not use a straw. At that time, I was also addicted to opiates and benzos and it took both Valium and Versed.
Hey Chad. Sorry you had a rough time, but smoking can increase your risk of dry socket, as well as slow your healing. You should stop smoking well in advance of any oral surgery. ;-)
Hayden Ray 😂😂 yes yes it does I’m not diagnosed with it yet but this thing is throbbing and I thought it was food so I was scrapping at it and that was theeeeeeee worst mistake I’ve made and ever will make
I had all 4 pulled and it’s now day 6 and every thing feels fine besides my right bottom one real sharp pain where I can’t eat or drink b/c opening my mouth hurts too much. I’ve rinsed 3,4x a day I’m just wondering if I can do this on my own or if should go back to my dentist cuz I’m almost 100% I have dry socket I can’t open my mouth wide enough w/o it hurting to look
Hello. A dry socket usually shows up 3-5 days after an extraction and lasts another 4-5 days, so by around day 10 it should be nearly resolved. You need to irrigate the holes until no more food collects in them. Good luck!! Dr. Aiken
Today is day 6 post extraction the white granulation tissue seemed to fall off overnight and the hole appears deeper. Currently no pain but was wondering the chances of dry socket at this point?
Before the video I didn’t know, now I definitely have it. It’s a gaping hole where the third molar was. Screaming pain in temple and ear. Not looking forward to treatment.
Sorry to hear that. Your surgeon should be able to place a dry socket packing, which will relieve the discomfort. Until then, take Ibuprofen 800mg every 6 hours, if you are able to take Ibuprofen. Good luck. :-)
@@Oralsurgeryspecialistsatlanta thanks! The surgeon placed the packing in and if feels a little better. Still dull pain in my face but I’m just gonna let time do it’s thing

Hey. Sorry you aren't feeling well. If you can take Ibuprofen and Tylenol, take 800mg every 6 hours around the clock. Take 650mg Tylenol every 6 hours as well, but starting 3 hours after the Ibuprofen. Some people report relief from dropping clove oil in the socket. You can pick that up at a pharmacy. I hope that helps. Dr. Aiken
@@Oralsurgeryspecialistsatlanta Thanks finally got a return call from my dentist who said if the pain started immediately after the numbing it's not dry socket because that typically takes a few days so I probably have inflammation in my muscle. @@jourdanphillips1584 Hey Jourdan. Sorry you aren't feeling well. A dry socket wouldn't last 15 days, so there may be something else going on. What do you mean by "unfinished" extraction? My dad is diabetic and has had this issue after his wisdom tooth removal. He wasn't given any antibiotics for quite a long time. But now he's got an infection there and has been on antibiotics and painkillers for quite a while now. The pain resumes once the effect of the painkiller goes. He has a painless swollen gland-like structure on his jaw, under the ear, which some people say is a swollen lymph node. Is it dangerous/linked to some other disease? Thanks in advance.
Hello. Honestly, it's really hard to say what is going on with your dad. If you don't feel comfortable with how the surgeon is treating the problem, maybe it's worth getting a second opinion. Good luck. Dr. Aiken
This helps me out a little bit. I think that I have a mild case of dry socket but I think it will gradually go away. Because some of my pain goes to the left side of my head the top part, and some of the pain goes into my left ear and I truly feel like I have a bad ear ache. I hope this goes away very soon. Thanks.
Sounds like you have a mild dry socket. It will go away on it's own in 4-5 days. Ibuprofen tends to help the most, if you can take that medicine. Good luck! :-)

Just a warning this is extremely painful. I was stupid when I had my wisdom teeth out last year, and I didn't listen to the doctor. I went for a vigorous walk the next day and ate what I wanted because they didn't hurt bad. I didn't have sedation so I was wide awake and bored, but anyway listen to what they tell you about not doing anything to strenuous the first few days and eating soft food. The pain was agonizing, even with packing in, and it lasted for a solid six days before it finally started to taper down to a more tolerant level. Another tip is, is that I was 41 at the time and the procedure was tolerable with Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) and local anesthetic. I had two of them removed and both were partially impacted. I saved myself like 600.00 not having sedation, and it was fine, and would have been an unnecessary risk. Everyones tolerance and anxiety is different, but I highly recommend the nitrous instead of the sedation, but obviously discuss what is best for your situation with the oral surgeon.
I just had my wisdom teeth taken out today and the laughing gas isn't really needed since they give you this gel stuff that makes you feel less pain when you get the shots in your mouth. I decided not to use the laughing gas. You could have saved another $80 if you wanted. I felt nothing the whole time.
Yep I did the same thing, I went for a strenuous hilly walk the next 2 days post op and then the pain kicked in and has been painful since, day 6 now, it’s a little more tolerable but still quiet painful. Make sure you rest and don’t do anything strenuous the following few days!
@@kyler124 I had a VERY BAD experience with an AWEFUL oral surgeon when I broke my jaw a few years ago. He failed to tell me how many injections of lidocaine (or whatever it is they use) I would need in both the upper and lower jaw to take the wiring off (it is SEVERAL if you are wondering, like a ton more then you would ever need for any typical dental procedure), and I should have been told to get conscious sedation for it, but he did not fully inform me. He hit a nerve while injecting and the pain was excruciating and despite me crying and begging him to stop the injection he continued for another 2 minutes or more, it felt like ten.! Long story short I am now traumatized, and haver very severe anxiety with any thought of getting the numbing shot before dental procedures, thus the laughing gas was more to quiet my emotions and severe anxiety over that, then the actual pain of the teeth removal.

Hi Dr, i had my lower wisdom tooth removed on Monday, after 3 days, earlier this morning while I was asleep, i had bleeding, immediately i rinse the blooed with water and put on my gauze, blood cloth came off with the gauze. Is this normal doctor? Or is this dry socket?
Hello. Yes, this can happen from time to time. It is not indicative of a dry socket, nor does it increase your chances of getting a dry socket. You did the right thing. Continue to maintain good oral hygiene and make sure no food is stuck in the sockets. Good luck!! :-) Dr. Aiken
Hi! I currently have a diagnosed case of dry socket and am anxious about the healing process. Have you ever seen a case last months or does it typically resolve with proper dressing/irrigation and aftercare?
My tooth was extracted a week ago, the one next to it feels loose when I wiggle it from the top. Is this normal or could this be a cavity that’s about to decay?
Hey. Adjacent teeth can become "bruised", which can show up as discomfort or a little looseness. Both should resolve spontaneously over a few weeks time. Hope that helps. :-)
Can I stop having anxiety about dry socket, I'm 35 just had all 4 wisdome teeth pulled no complications its day 12 now stiches all resolved feeling great eating normal can the blood clot come out still or am I done with worring about dry socket? Appreciate the response dr.
You are good to go!! If you have a problem there, it won't be from dry socket. You can get a delayed infection if you don't keep the sockets clean enough. Good luck. Dr. Aiken

How can you properly salt water rinse? Do you just leave it in your mouth for a bit, do you til your head? Also does stitches and antibodies reduce the risk of developing dry socket? All i eat is eggs, yogurt, and soup lol is this acceptable?
Actually, starting one day after the procedure, you should rinse vigorously with salt water after each meal. Stitches and antibiotics don't reduce the risk of a dry socket. Honestly, just follow the directions for cleaning and "hope for the best". You can do everything right and still get a dry socket. On the other hand, you can do everything wrong and not get one. It's a bit of a crap shoot, if you know what I mean. Eat whatever is comfortable. Good luck. Dr. Aiken
How long does it take for blood clots to form? I just had my 4 tooth extractions yesterday. I have a phobia with open wounds and blood so I have my boyfriend check my mouth for me. No pain as of right now, just slightly but not enough for me to need medications. My boyfriend doesn’t see any blood clot forming and I’m paranoid about getting dry sockets even when my dentist put Hemotastis in my socket to help form a blood clot. I wake up with morning anxiety and fear everyday because the thought of open wounds in my mouth is scary enough! I need help.
Hey. Blood clots form the day of surgery. You can't always see them in the socket. Just rinse with warm salt water after meals and keep things clean. Good luck. Team OSSA
For anyone who, like me, suffers with stomach pain when taking ibuprofen, try Co codamol. It's best to see your dentist but if you need to wait a couple of days, good painkillers are vital.

Hey Ciara. Dry socket discomfort usually starts 3-5 days after an extraction, and it can be mild, moderate or severe. As your pain should be improving daily, dry socket pain will likely increase over a few days before peaking and finally going away on its own over a few days. I hope that helps. Dr. Aiken

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Was this an oral surgeon that extracted your teeth? It sounds like a classic dry socket, and a pretty severe one. Ibuprofen 800mg every 6 hours as needed (if you can take Ibuprofen) is the first line of treatment. If that doesn't relieve the pain, the doctor needs to place a medicated dry socket packing into the wound. I would call and inquire about that. I hope you feel better. Dr. Aiken
Hi, i got all four wisdom teeth removed on thursday and by the next day or so three of them had already been covered in what i think is called granulated tissue and it looks like regular gum tissue. However the one on the top was still bleeding yesterday and two clots about the size of a dime fell out two different times. I put a gauze on it last night and since then haven’t had any bleeding. I’m unsure but i think that last one continuously bled longer because i didn’t place it correctly. Do you think i’m out of the woods in terms of getting a dry socket for the other three or no? It’s day four today, also I’ve experienced barely any pain and only had to take pain meds once, just some swelling and tolerable soreness on both sides of my jaw
So it’s been about 5-6 days since I had 3 front teeth removed because of a sports accident. My dentist did some bone grafting and then sent me on my way. I’ve done the warm salt water rinses, soft foods, and put gaws in when smoking and barely pulled off the joint as to not dislodge the clot, all seemed to be working. Then last night I was flossing but wasn’t looking at the mirror and I accidentally hit one of my gums where the tooth was removed and it looks like either the clot is hanging off or it was a piece of food or something that was stuck. Now there is some exposed white stuff and it appears the clot is hanging off to the side. Is this a cause for concern ? Will this develop in to a dry socket? I would really appreciate a response

Hey. I'm sorry you aren't doing well, but this isn't a dry socket. Smoking never helps wound healing, so I would stop that. It's hard to say what's going on, bit it's not normal this far out front the procedure. I would follow up with your surgeon. Does that make sense? Good luck. Dr. Aiken
I'm lucky because I'm in the %10 having dry socket on my 6th day. I visited my dentist twice. Hope won't visit again. Still don't understand what caused it. I had blood clogs in my teeth for first 3 days, everything was fine, then 5th day I woke up in 3 AM with pain.
Sorry you had dry sockets. Some times you can do everything "right" and still get them. Fortunately, they resolve spontaneously as you heal, so there aren't any long term problems associated with them. :-) Team OSSA
Hello. A blood clot that is within the socket is normal. If it’s a clot outside the socket, you can grab and gently remove with a piece of gauze. It might cause some bleeding, but just bite on some gauze again until it stops bleeding. I hope that helps. Team OSSA.

Hello. Yes, you will be fine. The hole will fill in from the bottom of the roots to the top of the gum tissue. Just keep everything clean by rinsing after meals. :-) Good luck. Dr. Aiken
I’m going on 14 days after my tooth being pulled and if I don’t take naproxen the throbbing starts 🥲 I seen my dentist 4 times already. Hopefully it goes away by the next visit in a week . It was a back tooth and she had issues pulling it out but I don’t know if this length in pain is normal?
Hello. I'm sorry that you aren't feeling well. The symptoms of a dry socket are usually resolved by day 10 after an extraction. If you are still experiencing pain, you may have an infection, or more likely an area of exposed bone in the area of the extraction. This is associated with continued throbbing pain, and it will go away, but it may take a few weeks as well as the removal of any dead bone that works it's way through the bone. Ibuprofen 600-800mg every six hours as needed for pain (if no problems with your kidneys) seems to help the best for exposed bone. Your dentist should identify any dead bone and remove it as it becomes loose. I wish you the best of luck. Dr. Aiken
I had my wisdom teeth pulled out like 2 days ago. And this morning i felt like a spongy liquid coming from 1 extraction site. I open my mouth to check and i saw that it was blood. I didn’t spit it out tho, i hold it in place with my bottom teeth. Does the mean that my blood clot dislodge? And thanks 🙏 will appreciate your answer.
Hey. It's not unusual to have some mild bleeding or oozing a few days after the surgery. It sounds like some of the superficial clot got dislodged, but that doesn't mean that you will get a dry socket. Just continue to rinse after meals with water or salt water, and keep the areas clean. I hope this helps. Good luck! Dr. Aiken

@@aarontaylor1040 Well, if you are taking narcotics for pain control, I would stop that. If not, you may want to discuss stopping the antibiotic with your doctor. Personally, I don't prescribe antibiotics after wisdom tooth removal unless there is an infection. Have a good day.
I had one of my lower wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. When I got home I rinsed my mouth out with water and also spat blood out not knowing that I was not supposed to. I then read on the internet all about dry sockets and that to avoid these you should not do certain things like rinsing and spitting. I am therefore worried I have a dry socket. I have looked into my mouth using a light and a mirror but am unsure whether the socket is dry or not. I have no pain at all and my breath does not smell. What would you advise?
Good morning. You don't have a dry socket right now. :-) If one develops, it will usually cause symptoms 3-5 after the procedure. At this point, you should rinse your mouth with salt water after each meal to keep the wounds clean. Don't smoke and take it day to day. If you develop a dry socket, it will eventually heal on it's own. You would just need to manage the symptoms with Ibuprofen or a dry socket packing, but you should discuss with your surgeon. Good luck! Team OSSA
😳- I’m in so much pain 😭😭I’m off to an emergency appointment this morning- I definitely am experiencing dry socket- the pain is radiating along my jaw bone up to my ear - it’s severely painful 😖be in pain and crying for days and no amount of pain killers are working, I can’t eat or sleep-I have a course of antibiotics- I hope my dentist can do something to relive the pain today fingers crossed 🤞
@@andrewaiken413 Hi Dr Aiken - Thank you for your reply - your video really helped me so much, great advice.! 😌 My dentist confirmed it was ‘dry socket packed the area and I am feeling much better and healing nicely. Best wishes Sarah 😌
I had extractions done 4 days ago. I went in today because the pain was a bit much and was told I have dry socket. The dentist cleaned out the teeth with the issues and placed packing with clove smelling stuff inside. My question is...is it normal for the packing to come out after only 3 hours? Not sure what I should do, if anything.
Ideally, the packing would stay in for 2 days and be taken out by the surgeon. I would contact the office and let them know that it fell out. See if they can place another one. Good luck. Team OSSA
Hello i need some advice if i should see my dentist. So it’s been one month since i had surgery when i had my wisdom tooth extraction but now i can see a small thing poking my tongue where my wisdom tooth was extracted don’t know if it’s a bone or a tooth growing (don’t know if that can happen) should i be concerned?
I have horrible pain and it’s already been 5 days since I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed I feel like my gums are being stretched is this pain normal ?
Hello. Are you referring to the video? Dry socket symptoms resolve by 8-10 days out from surgery over 95% of the time. If there is significant discomfort that continues beyond that, there may be something else that is going on. I'm glad you finally got better. Team OSSA
Pretty sure I had one it was like a week after surgery and I had a terrible throbbing pain throughout my whole bottom jaw cause my dumbass ate some tough ass jack links jerky, it’s now 2 weeks after and I’m fine should I still be concerned or am I good?
Day 5 and woke up after extraction saw a hole in there. Yesterday was at pain level 3 . Took Advil brought it down. This morning almost no pain. Because I see a hole think I might have a dry socket. Hate the hole looking thing. Yesterday also had a sore neck and some pain in my ear.
I have my wisdom teeth removal three days ago. Now I have clot. I also suffer from gum inflammation. It hurt, cannot swallow, like fire.... is this usually happen? Can it be heal? Is it serious condition?

When I was going through bouts of pain before the extraction I actually had my first anxiety attack ever. I swear to god I was dying. I don’t handle pain very well anymore. It looks to me like the clot is gone. No pain yet. It’s been two days now. Oh lord I hope I didn’t lose the clot all the way down to the root. Finally a video thats not trying to scare me

Wow. 3 blunts in 2 hours 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Damn u shoulda just smoked out the bong and then rinse after
I wish my dentist was half as attentive as you are.
Did you end up getting one ?or heal fine that comment just screamed what I'm doing now I'm on my 3rd day and have only drank soup and sitting up in bed shit*ing myself about a dry socket

great video. im having a bone graft done along with extraction. does a bone graft help prevent a dry socket 100%?
Bone grafts will usually help the socket heal faster, but sometimes people can have dry socket symptoms with a bone graft. Good luck. Team OSSA.
Got mine out and was 1-2 hours late on pain med schedule & was convinced I had dry socket, but now feels a little better
Glad you're feeling better. Dry socket pain is best relieved by ibuprofen. FYI. Team OSSA
Sounds like you are doing fine and are very reflective on your experience. Thanks for sharing. Team OSSA
Dr. Aiken
This was helpful, because I was paranoid and you debunked some of the assumptions. I'm still nervous though, but we'll see.

You cannot tell if the clot is still present just by looking, it is deep within the socket where you cannot see. The oral surgeon will go by your level of pain and generally the gums around the socket will look inflamed.

i need to know this😭
Currently dealing with dry socket for the first time.
Good luck! Team OSSA
hello, when do you start feeling dry socket? how fast does the pain occur and what day exactly? thank you.
Alondra Medina it can happen 2-3 days after the extraction.
You should stop smoking well in advance of any oral surgery. ;-)
did you create too much suction and get dry socket or get an infection?
I never got dry socket and my blood clot fell out two days after extraction? I’m so confused on how I didn’t get it but I am extremely thankful
Some of the clot falling out doesn't automatically lead to a dry socket. It's good to be thankful, always! :-) Team OSSAa
if you have a dry socket you will know because it hurts so effing bad
Hayden Ray 😂😂 yes yes it does I’m not diagnosed with it yet but this thing is throbbing and I thought it was food so I was scrapping at it and that was theeeeeeee worst mistake I’ve made and ever will make
what day would you feel it?
Alondra Medina you would feel it if you applied suction in your mouth which could make the clot come out. But if you are careful then you will be ok
So I have guild coming out and a little pain do you think it’s a dry socket
Can you please tell me how the recovery was for you. I mean after how many days were you completely free of pain?
I had all 4 pulled and it’s now day 6 and every thing feels fine besides my right bottom one real sharp pain where I can’t eat or drink b/c opening my mouth hurts too much. I’ve rinsed 3,4x a day I’m just wondering if I can do this on my own or if should go back to my dentist cuz I’m almost 100% I have dry socket I can’t open my mouth wide enough w/o it hurting to look
If you aren't seeing daily improvement, you should go see the surgeon that removed the wisdom teeth. Good luck! Team OSSA
What happens after you’ve had your dry socket packed though? When will it heal? How long do I do salt water rinses for?
Hey. No pain = no dry socket. At 6 days, you are likely out of the woods. :-) Dr. Aiken
How long should i wait until vaping after surgery? And if so should I start by taking lighter hits to avoid dry socket?
Forever! ;-) At least a week or so, but it may be a good opportunity to quit. Good luck! Dr. Aiken

Same for me. Had operation done friday. Pulled 2 back teeth and looks really weird because in the pocket is a really grey color. I have been looking at videos scaring myself. Thank you for your video. About how long does the feeling go away or when is it healed where if I press on it with my finger I won't feel much of anything just the healed gums?
Are you out of the woods? HOw are you feeling?
Due to decay due to smoking since I was 18 (I'm 23 now) and Sjogren's Syndrome on account of my Lupus, I had to get all my teeth pulled last wednesday. I'm coming up on the 5th day and I'm still paranoid, althogh I' haven't had any pain besides when I wear the bottome dentures, but that's if I wear them too long. Thank you, thank you so much for the video. It helped ease a lot of my anxiety, which let's be honest; a pandemic and going to a dentist is a scary thing atm
I'm glad you found the video to be helpful. At 5 days after the procedure, you should be getting close to being out of the woods for dry socket. I hope you have continued good healing. :-)
You had to get all your teeth pulled man?
@@ShaunReddick222 that’s exactly what she wrote!
Way to be rude
@@vanessa8nine10 I was just asking a question I wasn’t being rude I’ve never heard of someone having to get all their teeth pulled from just 5 years of smoking
Sorry about your teeth. My sister-in-law had to do the same because of her lupus. I have had autoimmune problems they could not figure out. Finally diagnosed having Celiac Disease.
Just had my lower right molar extracted and smoked a few cigarettes later on that day and the day after.. I'm a bit paranoid and won't smoke again but... Is it too late for me?
Hey, time will tell if that mattered. If you don't develop continued throbbing pain after 3-4 days, you should be alright. Good luck! Team OSSA
I had an extraction today. It was very uncomfortable. I don't smoke. So that's good.
Good luck with your recovery.

I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out today and I feel super paranoid every time I eat or drink something lmao
how do you feel now?
Currently freaking out that I may have a dry socket. 3 days post op & pregnant. I have mild discomfort, and the area looks grayish. Can’t really see. Does the pain start slowly or kinda hits out of no where? This video & the comments kind of put me at ease
I had 2 teeth pulled right next to each other so maybe my pain will last a little longer??
Hey Ciara. Dry socket discomfort usually starts 3-5 days after an extraction, and it can be mild, moderate or severe. As your pain should be improving daily, dry socket pain will likely increase over a few days before peaking and finally going away on its own over a few days. I hope that helps. Dr. Aiken
Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta thank you for your reply! Turns out i have severe Sinusitis on top of the recovery. It’s been a rough week haha
Hi, I had my impacted wisdom tooth surgery on Monday , I went back to the doctor yesterday because I was experiencing terrible pain in both ear during the night ,the doctor removed stitches few hours later I started to feel my skull bones ,my jaw hurt ,back heat bone and my the left ear is so painful even the painkillers doesn't make pain better .what could be the problem pls help
How did it go? Was it something bad?
Hey. Sorry about your accident. You should probably contact the dentist that treated you, if you have an immediate concern. Good luck. :-)
I had my front tooth pulled and she saw it off and left the root in there and three or four months later I got the Roots out what is still had a dry socket that still bothering me till this day 6 months later do you have any advice how can I fix this and I'm a smoking if I stop will it go away is feel like a hole that won't close do you have any advice
I really don’t know if I have a dry socket but my jaw is hurting and my face is swollen is that normal for your jaw to hurt
what do you think about platelet rich fibrin for tooth extractions to prevent dry socket??
I haven't read anything about PRF being a benefit.
After my teeth extraction, there is a blood clot, what can I do now? Can it be removed?
Hello. A blood clot that is within the socket is normal. If it’s a clot outside the socket, you can grab and gently remove with a piece of gauze. It might cause some bleeding, but just bite on some gauze again until it stops bleeding. I hope that helps. Team OSSA.
Is it the sign of blood clot?
@@naimuddinansary4741 Hey. I don’t think I understand your question. A blood clot is “a sign of a blood clot”. 😉

I’m on day 10 of Recovery and I feel an empty hole in my top right wisdom tooth that was removed yet I feel no pain. Will I be fine?

Got my wisdom tooth out but one still has a pretty big hole how long does it take to heal?
Hey. It may take -4 weeks to fill in. Good luck!
Good luck! Dr. Aiken
@@Oralsurgeryspecialistsatlanta thanks. But how do i know im rinsing it correctly. Cause i be putting water in my mouth and leaning my head sideways. Do you think that will keep them clean? Cause i don’t want to swish because im too scared of the blood clot to dislodge.

@@andrewaiken413 yea, you don’t say. Just a quick update for documentation Purposes. I have vomited 3x due to swallowing too much blood. @@andrewaiken413 thanks doctor. I have vomited for a 4th time on my 3rd day post extraction. It seems I can’t keep anything down. At the end of the puking episode their was visible blood. I think the vomiting is caused either by the blood or the antibiotics which I took after having a smoothie: there is also a lot of pain in my lower jaw after puking which makes me think about losing the clot. The pain is slowly subsiding as I write this comment.
Good luck! Team OSSA

Good luck. Team OSSA

Pretty sure I had one it was like a week after surgery and I had a terrible throbbing pain throughout my whole bottom jaw cause my dumbass ate some tough ass jack links jerky, it’s now 2 weeks after and I’m fine should I still be concerned or am I good?
Should be good to go, as long as you are keeping it clean.
