In scandinavia we have what we call ''pant'' or ''pawn'' is it would be in english. this basically means that you pay 2-3kr extra per can/bottle, but you can take it back to the store when they are empty and get the money back. i think it would be way more bottles and cans on the ground if this wasm't a thing. this also helps the homeles because they can go around collecting cans and bottles. my dad works at the subway, and he sees people do this a lot. he once asked how much money the guy earned from doing this daily, and he said 300-1100kr ($30-$110 ish a day, it all depends on if there has been a festival or a normal week.
The UK is years away from having this. The earliest planned introduction of a deposit return scheme for cans and plastic bottles is 2024, but they're still discussing. And glass is going to be excluded from the scheme because of various reasons. What is happening (or rather, NOT happening) in the UK is extremely sad.
New subscriber... thanks! I'm doing this in downtown Chicago. It's going great! The litter had been there a long time. Which begs the questions: WHERE are the city sanitation workers???
That spot really needs some permanent bins maintained by the business/counsel… If you can’t trust people to do the right thing, make it easier to do than the wrong thing.
Trust me, I've tried convincing multiple people from our local Council to install bins there. I have given up, it's just not going to happen in my lifetime.
I often walk up and down my street with a trash bag and collect litter. What I'd like to know is, what do people think will happen to this stuff that they throw out of their car windows?? Do they assume it will decompose? Or are they just counting on someone like me (and You) to come along and clean up after them??
Hi I really love what you are doing and would really like to do it myself in the town I live. I was curious whether you think I could do this full time and ask people in my local area for donations to make this my living? What do you think?
Please get a litter picker stick , cheap online , a life changing thing when litter picking in bushes. I couldn't be without it , collected 1400 bags ;last year here in Walsall
I know, I have two of them, but they were impractical to the point of being useless in this particular instance. I spent most of the time crouched and a stick is close to impossible to use properly unless you're standing.
Hello, unfortunately I don't have any plans for East London, but there are litter picking groups active there for sure, you might want to do a quick search and contact one of them, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to get a helping hand.
Thank you. I usually leave them by a litter bin and the Council teams collect them. Otherwise, I pile them up in an easily accessible spot and report them to be collected.
Would be interesting to see how long it took the council to collect the rubbish and cut back the overgrowth and install a waste bin for an area where litter is obviously an issue.
It took the Council one afternoon to cut down every piece of bush you saw in this video, they razed this green space to the ground in order to "clean" it for the EURO2020 tournamente (which took place in 2021) - though the cleaning they did wasn't good. I have a video coming up soon-ish where I revisited Wembley Park. Still zero bins, still rubbish, just a terrible spot. A true failure of local authorities to keep on top of things and such an embarassment to welcome visitors to Wembley Stadium with such a horror sight.
Although all types have litter, some types litter more than others. For example, some of those beers like Perla and Lech are Polish and a lot of the Romanians in the area enjoy drinking that as well as Timișoreana
The brand's origin is not a good metric for who drinks, people buy these brands because they are cheap. I have a group of South Asian drinkers who hang out behind my building every day and they predominantly drink Polish beers too.
@@KeepItCleanLondon Well I did state that others do drink those beers. However, in general... I was born in the area, I know what I've seen for the last 15 years even though people keep telling me to ignore everything I see and experience and just listen to them. But still, good job. I won't take that away from you. Thank you.
Not an option for me, I'm afraid. The only places that accept them are recycling centres (not sure they pay anything, tbh), but I don't have a car. There is no other way to monetise aluminium cans in the UK at the present time - hence why you see thousands of them strewn around, as they are worthless to the people who drop them.
What is the thing that holds your trash bag open called? I can't find it anywhere. I've tried "trash mouth" , "trash bag holder", "trash pickup holder"
For this to be a famous land mark I have to ask the question ,why does the park not have a litter picker at least during the bours of 8 am until about 9😢
Well done, I cannot understand peoples mentality these days, it seems to me that most people are happy to live in a garbage dump and the litter problem in this country is out of control. I pick up litter on every one of my dog walks and I always get a full bag within a short distance 😡 I don’t know what the answer is?
Thank you. There are certainly ways to bring the problem under control. Deposit return schemes for glass, plastic and metal. Tougher legislation around packaging. Better infrastructure for waste disposal and collection. Better enforcement. Adequate maintenance, etc. It's a long, long list. And of course, education. But that takes generations, we can't bank on it alone, by then it'll be too late. However, we can't afford any of the above at the moment, we have been going through challenging times for quite a while... Which is why volunteering work is so important. Fortunately, more and more people start to realise this. I think the UK has BY FAR the largest number of litter picking volunteers in Europe, which gives all of us the courage to carry on.

I was out for a Sunday drive and I live in an area which suffers from the white flight. If only the English whites had stood up instead of the flight. I saw OAP in a white part picking up litter, these are the people who have pride but alas had no bottle to say no to the Mosque and immigrants who dont give a damn!
I am sorry you feel like this. But you do realise that: 1) Muslims don't drink and 90% of the rubbish in this video is alcohol-related. 2) I am not White English.

But everyone pays taxes. Municipalities are responsible to clean them.
some people just like to pick up the trash, like me :)@@7prudent
Then go out n help then!!!!
From a fellow litter picker, thank you for setting a good example and planting the seed for others to step up and help the earth.
Thanks so much for all your hard work and dedication
You are doing such an amazing job slowly cleaning the area up, well done!!

Great job its nice to see it when we all do our bit to keep Great Britain clean! I do litterpicking twice a week
That's fantastic, it's more than I do, keep at it. I usually go just once a week. :)
@@KeepItCleanLondon Its better thab bothing! Thanks for responding!
sadiq khan needs to get his act in order and get London cleaned up.But in the meantime thanks for all your hard work.

Just discovered your channel. Awesome stuff and good production quality!
Very Nice mate good work my friend i am proud of you!!!
Thank you, Nick.
Thank you for cleaning the streets. Greetings from the Netherlands
Fantastic job as always 👏👍
So much cans !!!
I’m starting to clean cramlington up. Just looking for more litter. For next week
People can be pretty lazy, but I'm glad there are people who care enough to protect the environment and keep it health.

Great work. People are lazy. I pick litter in my local area. People even put stuff on the floor next to a bin.

I don't think that is a question most litterbugs ask themselves. It's just muscle memory, throwing things without thinking.
Hi I really love what you are doing and would really like to do it myself in the town I live. I was curious whether you think I could do this full time and ask people in my local area for donations to make this my living? What do you think?
It might be possible, though I would advise you to not underestimate your local community's indifference. But if you somehow make it, let me know! :)

No bottle deposit thing in UK?
Nope.
Only I go scuba diving to get trash but also I do on land
Love your comment on inaction. If you live in this area, would would you not pick it up? Stuff sitting around for 10 years... Just crazy.
I am going to begin cleaning up my local neighborhood, can you please link the products you use to clean up litter.
Nice job! What camera do you use for filming? keep going!
Thank you. I use a GoPro Hero 7 Black.
how did you get the trash bag holder?
Just look for "bin bag hoop" on Amazon.
WOW! That is New York kind of dirty!

It's strange that there is no one who takes those cans and exchanges them for some bills.
We don't have that in the UK. These cans are completely worthless.
I know this has probably already been asked, but can you take them cans to cash in for money?
Not an option for me, I'm afraid. The only places that accept them are recycling centres (not sure they pay anything, tbh), but I don't have a car. Why are there no bins whit the benches. I think people are too lazy too curry their garbage. But you do an amazing job.😊❤
People absolutely should not drop litter, but I don't see any bins there?

Try "bag hoop" :)
For this to be a famous land mark I have to ask the question ,why does the park not have a litter picker at least during the bours of 8 am until about 9😢
Ok so one question I did not see any garbage cans in that area, is that why it is so bad?
Not just because of that, but yes, it does contribute to the problem.
Moze puszki oddac na skup do recyklingu
Not many bins
Zero, to be precise.
