Strike Freedom was here to save the Akatsuki (Gold Gundam), which is piloted ATM by Kira's sister. The Akatsuki, unlike the other noteworthy gundam's in seed, does not use phase shift armor, and instead has a coating that reflects beams. Its defense against those is honestly ridiculous. If you want to see the best example of that, the two videos would be "Akatsuki Zeus Silhouette", though "REQUIEM Fired on Eurasian Federation" would show you what exactly it is defending against in the former video. Starting with the Freedom, (and with the exception of the Akatsuki), the best gundam's in SEED are all equipped with nuclear reactors, rather then just batteries like the standard ones, so in normal operation, they have functionally limitless energy. The only times we see those reactors actually unable to keep up with the suits' energy demands are with the Destiny's Wings of Light, and when the Strike Freedom's phase shift armor was overtaxed in the movie.
at Time 1:20 you can see the Strike Freedom and Infinte Justice holding hands. The Infinite Justice was being piloted by Lacus Clyne, who is Kira Yamato's (the pilot of the Freedom) girlfriend and the person who is the heart of the force that Kira Yamato is supporting. She is piloting the Justice because she is transporting it to its true pilot, Athrun Zala, who is on the Archangel, who is still recovering from the near death experience from getting a mobile suit he had stolen shoot down.
As others have said, several Gundam's here are powered by nuclear reactors. However, if they use a lot of weapons, or the wings of light that Destiny has they can still run low on power. Basically the reactor can't produce enough power to compensate and will need a bit of time to recharge. You'll see that if you watch Strike Freedom Spec 2.
@@WadeWadeReacts The Gundam's in Gundam 00 are powered by solar reactors. Basically mini suns that can run forever. It emits those green sparkles you see coming from their backs. It also allows the suit to go Trans Am. Which turns the suit red, and every state is three times better for a short time; but once it wears off, the suit is powered down some until the reactor powers up again.
That piloted by Kira was actually the ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom an upgraded version of the ZGMF-X10A Freedom destroyed by Shin in his ZGMF-Z56S Impulse Gundam, which got him promoted to the ZGMF-Z42S Destiny Gundam, and the Impulse was passed onto Lunamaria Hawke, one of Shin's shipmates.

Strike freedom on the side of itself, supported by Terminal, fighting on behalf of orb, akatsuki (gold strike basically, currently piloted by cagalli) very expensive mobile suit. fighting on behalf of orb. a neutral state currently co-opted by a rogue government and fighting both zaft and small infightings. vs destiny (Shinn) on the side of zaft. Funny thing is that you can probably damage the akatsuki using a large caliber rifle, because it reflects beam, but complete garbage against physical weaponry. UC uses propellant to use the thrusters and need special equipment until the miniaturized minovsky flight craft was invented. Seed basically use energy to propel themselves. and the destiny and strike freedom have nuclear (fission probably) reactor (which uc basically all are fusion powered) unlike the other suits that uses batteries. Plus they have special backpacks that let them sustain flight. . . . the how in those orientation, is basically don't worry about it have fun. well shinn in the destiny kinda turned around after getting demolished by athrun in the infinite justice. teamed up in the seed freedom movie.
The Strike freedom, Infinite Justice and Destiny gundams are running on nuclear reactors as opposed to most MS in seed that use battery energy systems. So practically limitless energy for atmospheric flight. Drawbacks are they gotta cut the power in case they're badly damaged to avoid going critical. Kira did it in the freedom when it got destroyed by the impulse.

BTW that is not gold If it was gold it would’ve been much more cheaper LOL that in reality is a special Beam Deflecting Armor that in reality could deflect any Beam Attack called the Yata-no-Kagami Anti-Beam Defensive Reflection System just this armor alone cost over X20 M1 Astray which it itself was already a very expensive price so Yeah
Plus, the only reason it did lost in this battle was because of the Destiny and Shinn at this point Shinn was already a great pilot and Cagalli at this point was not really in that many fights so it seems she gotten at least a little bit rusty but she still a very good pilot but at the same time that armor that the Akatsuki has does not cover the interframe so the Destiny Beam Boomerang was able to cut it in return losing an arm
