Thanks for the further review of this motor. "Only 1200 watts". 😂. Only like double any street legal limit;) The temp did get pretty high but you were climbing a hill at a fairly high speed. I have to wonder if dropping a gear (& consequently the speed) would keep temps lower. I hope that throttle amp up can be modified because if so the Photon seems a class above the BBS02 & while not as potentially powerfull as the HD has more finesse.
It's definitely a better experience with the peddle assist. I think the bbs02 likely can sustain throttle use for longer. The motor structure is different with this one so it makes it harder to shed heat fast. I will explain in the full video.
@@HighVoltageKits I look forward to your explanation (& any content you put out). It seems the Photon easily meets my local needs while staying (mostly) street legal. I enjoy peddling & the local speed limit here is 25 mph so the Photon may be worth the extra expense on my next build:)

The fact that the outside fins were not getting very warm is a bit concerning. So either the temperature on the display is inaccurate like you suggest, or the heat sinking is not working very well. Not enough heat transfer to the fins.
I have pushed this motor pretty hard and got it up to 100c in 2kw mode and the temps drop very quickly once I lay off the power, so I feel that they are working well enough. It will be interesting to see how this works in summer weather. I might end up grabbing a Proton once it's released just to have that true 1500w motor as I'm a big guy.
@@jdub2354 did you feel any power throttle when you reached 100°C? I haven’t come across any examples where the motor cut back power because temperatures reached too high.

I wonder if cyc's got the temp sensor in the windings. I see the same thing with my bbshd with a ludi v2, I can get the winding temps into 90c (when I have it set to throttle power) but the motor casing will barely be warm. Even on longer rides where you would expect the casing to be heat soaked I did a top speed run and the casing was at 45c when the internal temp showed 80c+ for a good minute of "cooling down" stopped taking temps
I'm not sure. It would make sense. The other thing is the calibration of them. There is no real way of calibrating and confirming the accuracy. On our kits we manually confirmed the resistance values at various temperatures. Does the luna one have separate controller and motor temps.
@@HighVoltageKits Yes it has both, like your findings with the cyc controller I never see it more than a few degree's over ambient temps. I think max I've seen it was 35c on a 27c day

Hey, do / would you sell a bac855 kits already tweaked for a bbshd with a 52v battery, or only tweaked for 72v? also do you have guides on tweaking the ASI software? thanks.
The kit will run at 52 volts for sure. 72 volts is optimal but you can use it at 52. Most settings can be tweaked using the Eggrider V2 and we have our own app which lets you change a few more that is being tested by a few people right now.
@@HighVoltageKits Thanks, yea, I just build my 1st ebike. I got the eggrider v2 and tweaked it as best as you can with BBSHD's stock controller. But it is not smooth enough, as you know. do you plan to do any off road/trail testing? interested to see how the PAS does on some more rough terrain and punchy climbs as I plan on getting one for a EMTB build
Do you have brake sensors? Would they be good to have to act as a "clutch" while shifting? I'm curious how hard/damaging it is on the drivetrain when shifting? I know they say not to peddle while shifting gears, but there needs to be some for the chain to switch gears, right? So how was it shifting with just throttle only? Thanks!
The gear shifting is very smooth. The power is not all at once so it's pretty kind on the gears. I can't have brake sensors unless I change the harness. Not missing one though.
There is not a connection for one by the motor. You can order a harness that allows for brake cutoffs. I did not bother with that tho. You might be able to add one to the brake cutoff as they are similar but it would be third party. You would need to be very careful with the pin out and check with CYC first. That would let you mount it up near the front of the bike. You really don't need one with torque though.
Hi. Does throttle control speed or power? for example 50% throttle: does it accelerate with full power to 50% of max speed. or does it accelerate with 50% power to max speed?
The throttle varies the amount of power when you manipulate it from off to the max that you put in the settings. There is a separate option to limit the top speed the bike can reach under motor power.
