We had a buyer who purchased 2 large lighting fixtures from us. In addition to the fact that they were brand new in pristine condition boxes, we floated those boxes in larger heavy duty Home Depot boxes - entirely cushioned with packing paper - all 6 sides. These lighting fixtures were pricey and costly to ship. The buyer messaged us stating that one of the lights came dented and he wanted us to ship another one to him. We immediately messaged him asking for photos of both boxes (all sides - interior & exterior) in order to file a dispute with FedEx. We then received a message from him stating that he fixed it and he was no longer asking for a replacement, lol!
We have also had a couple of buyers send us photos of broken or dirty items that were definitely not the ones we shipped them. The thing that stinks is that sellers often refund these dishonest buyers because they don't want to pay to have the buyers damaged garbage shipped back to them. These fraudulent buyers/scammers know that we will often do this for that very reason.

Sales generally slow down in summer, unless you're selling seasonal stuff. August is always my worst summer month. Summer and winter are both slow times for me, with August and December typically being the worst. This year hasn't been so bad though; I usually don't sell more than one item in December, but I'm already up 10 sales. I got 3 sales in August, compared to previous years with zero sales. I primarily sell women's clothing, mostly tops and dresses. This year November was my best month; I sold a lot of pants and shorts.

@@FlippinAintEasy I don't have a smart phone. Last I checked, their app doesn't work on desktop computers. I wish I could sell on there and Mercari; I could fetch better margins.
I've been getting at least 10% average monthly sell-through rates and getting better than my acceptable margin minimums, so ebay isn't so bad. I should do better next year when I upgrade to a Premium store and diversify my merch. Maybe I'll make enough to get a smartphone.
I tried selling on Bonanza; that was a wasted effort. I only sold one item my two years on there. I also couldn't sell knives or pipes on there, which I intend to get back into next year.

I'm amazed they sent it back! I sell vintage Barbies and accessories in my store, i had someone do that very same thing; a guy bought a very expensive vintage tagged Barbie outfit from me. He opens a case saying it looks "inauthentic", you don't fake Mattel! Despite my no returns/ refund policy, eBay forced me to accept the return. When i get it the dress is not my mint dress, but one in bad condition, and he keeps the gloves. I protest to eBay, they returned his money, i appealed, he won again.
I did everything right- tons of pics, very detailed description, didn't matter. If I was giving free shipping I could have gotten half my money back- that's organized crime protection money! I will never do free shipping so I will have to take the loss, it will still be less than paying for free shipping.
EBay has no seller protection. Period. They do, however, have Scammer Protection.
I was supposed to go MP the last of July, still haven't yet, though. My sales are down for July, but I've heard from a couple of longtime eBay sellers that it's pretty typical for this time of year, many are probably planning for back to school purchases. Ebay has been a ghost town for a couple weeks now, hopefully it picks up soon.
Thanks so much, appreciate the tips and info!

It wasn't free shipping. In order to get at least half your money back you have to have to offer free shipping.

June and July sales were up almost 50%. August....not so much so far. The first item I shipped in MP gave me a choice of PayPal or pending. I chose pending. The next group didn't give me that option. Shipping automatically came from pending. Sometimes, after an item is delivered, a buyer will ask for a price adjustment for something that was my mistake. I would just go to PayPal to send a partial refund. How do we do this with MP? Maybe I don't see a way because I haven't received a payout to my bank account yet?

I typically do about 15k a month in sales on eBay and we are also top rated.. Its a t-shirt shop. My wife and I make all the tees. Ebays new system mimics ETSY where we have a shop also. Ebay makes me laugh because they don't count the weekends for cc processing where etsy does. So more delay in payments. I called them this morning to get clarification. So got that rectified. Latest return I received I attribute to buyer remorse. I give everyone 30 days upon receipt to return item even if they simply change their mind. This individual went 45 days, had to use a USPS large carton instead of 10,8,4 Uline carton I sent sale in for return. Suggested it was factory defect when I'm 100% positive he broke it assembling the Maneuver Gear (which everyone has complained about come time to assemble Attack on Titan extras to put on an action figure). I suppose I could have smacked him with a high restocking fee but I chose to let it go since I did well on similar item sale 2 weeks earlier. This fellow took meticulous care to repack everything back into original carton. I refunded 100% on assumption he needed the money for frivolous items like food, rent, car payment....stuff like that. Worst buyer experiences: buyer buys in quantity, drag their feet paying, get unpaid item strikes. This buyer had a cousin who was selling similar items on eBay as I was and that was the strategy: tie my sales up, stiff me on payment while his cousin sells similar items easily. This dude has been blocked forever. Tip off was both people were from same location, similar eBay usernames. Reported find to eBay but eBay did nothing, as usual.

I've had seller friends done this as well. This helps you document your case showing proof if you get an empty return or something different. I have done this and it has worked in my favor. @@WinetimeMyTime I haven't had many returns. But, you can take all the pics you want, describe it perfectly, and eBay will still side with a bad buyer. I had a guy buy a very expensive tagged vintage Barbie outfit from me, mint condition. I took lots of great pics showing it. You can't fake vintage Mattel Barbie outfits. But, he says it's "inauthentic", even though the ample proof is on my side. He returns a different dress in bad condition and kept my gloves. They STILL forced me to refund him.
I can throw all the fits I want, add extra safety measures, it would not have changed a thing. The postal service, as we know, are overwhelmed since this pandemic began, it just seems unfair to add more to them. Especially when eBay always sides with crooked buyers. I've talked with lots of sellers in the forums, when they told me all of this it wasn't what I wanted to hear, but after all is said and done, they're right. In business you WILL have losses out of your control. You can do everything right and you will still suffer losses. It goes with the territory. Again, it's not what I want to hear, but that's just the way it is.

Fortunately I had gone to the seller before reporting her, she refunded me after getting nasty with me. I don't think that's the first time she's done that, she didn't want me to report her. But, she wanted me to wait a couple of days for my refund.
Ebays aim is for the customer to have an "experience", from the second they get an order to the end. If a seller upsets that balance, even if they're right, it's sort of a "defect", in a way. As I just learned from John, Poshmark has a similar aim. I'm proof it isn't fair sometimes, as probably a bejillion others, even when you do things right.
Have you gone managed payments yet? Do you like it? I'm supposed to anytime now, waiting on an email from them.

Nice story, but I don't understand why you didn't show us the broken Dust Buster in this video. It would have been nice to see the item that you're talking about.

@@FlippinAintEasy I was little bad to you, I apologize. I should have also said..."Thank you for the informative video, I appreciate your work to help us other eBay sellers." I hope you make a ton of money on eBay too and have good luck avoiding the scammers.

Use your PayPal card. That way you get the money out of PayPal and the 4%rebate on purchase from PayPal

June & July were 2 of my best months ever, better than Nov & Dec.
