Jon, the kiosk & scan sheet scans are considered an official initial scan by ebay. 100% on time initial scan with ebay here for years using both the kiosk & scan sheet. It's very efficient & it saves me from standing in a 30-60 minute USPS line.
@@FlippinAintEasy Even handing the parcels to the USPS carrier isn't 100% proof of custody. The data doesn't lie, 5 years of using the scan sheets or using the self kiosks has yielded a 100 % on time initial scan rate for my ebay account. That is with a volume of 10-40 parcels daily Monday-Saturday and I have a one day handling. If you don't trust the words of the carrier, then the data speaks volume.
@@FlippinAintEasyIt's not proof of custody as far as Usps insurance goes, but ebay does consider it an on time acceptance scan. I use the ssk for almost all of my packages and I've had tons of packages delayed in transit like everyone else. Yet I've never had any late shipment defects on my account (I check every week). So the SSK scans must be accepted by ebay if I have so many packages getting delayed, delivered late, but never any defects. Usps won't consider it an initial scan for insurance purposes but this has nothing to do with whether ebay considers it on time or not. Why would ebay care if we even have insurance on the package.
@wnytrashtrucks The post masters here in Southern California say the kiosk scan is valid and ebay corroborates in their on time acceptance scan metric.
I have a kiosk at our local post office. My mail carrier picks up our mail at 10:00am everyday, so we ship twice a day once at 9am and again after 5pm. Our cut off for same day shipping is at 5pm. I am not sure I agree with Jon that eBay doesn’t count the acceptance scan of the Kiosk, I know USPS doesn’t count it for a lost package if there’s no other scans (because like Jon said you could walk out of the post office with the package in hand after scanning it.) But when I drop off at our kiosk USPS doesn’t officially accept those until the next morning and at my post office they usually scan just after 9am (which would be considered a late scan because the cut off for eBay same-day is midnight local time to be scanned). So that would mean that any package I do this with would give me a late defect if there’s also a late delivery scan. I ship thousands of packages a year and hundreds go through the kiosk and I’ve never had a defect- (except when I totaled my Jeep and shipped 24 hours later.)
I don’t like small talk and want to be in and out of the Post Office. If you’re like me, I recommend printing a scan form. Only one barcode to scan instead of having the clerk scan each package one by one
We trust no one. We make them scan each sku or our manifest before we walk away. Once the lady went and threw our packages in a bin and I was like ummmm no ma'am. Please scan those now because it impacts our business. You only need a lesson once.
Having a good report with the mailman is fine, but he only needs to call out once or go on vacation once and the part timer covers for him. That's playing a dangerous game to me. Getting the receipt from an official scan is the ONLY 100% foolproof way. The rest have various degrees of risk at the benefit of time saved.
Halo~ Great advice. Great HAT!!! If I can't get to USPS before 2pm I will wait in line to get pkg scanned. While waiting I complete some of my Drafts and List!
I have heard it both ways on a scan sheet or kiosk being an official scan, however its always just hearsay with no documentation to back up either claim. I understand eBay may not have anything in writing, but they should. I use a scan sheet and like the idea that its only one bar code to scan giving less chance of human error unless its on my end.
I sent warranty replacement and generated another label and bam got late ship as it added new tracking. Learned to not add additional tracking if sending a replacement.
I sell a few items a week and have 2-day handling enabled, however, I ship same-day and next-day 99% of the time. I really should change it to 1 day handling time, which might be very good, but my job and other things I am doing might cause me to be late. That happened once recently and I upgraded the shipping for a couple bucks to priority to keep it from being late and they got it fast, actually early so that is an option if I am running late for whatever reason. As for the items getting scanned by the carrier, I just take them and put them on the counter or night box at my USPS. In all my years I have never had one scanned in late doing this. My post office is great and if I get it there on time before they are closed there is no issue. Only if I get it there at like 10 PM there won't be a scan until 8 the next morning, that is when I have been known to just up it to priority vs first class or ground advantage nowadays just to make it arrive a little quicker for extra assurance. So far I haven't had a late report on eBay.
It is sooooo frustrating how lazy people have gotten in the last 10 years. Really seems to have happened during/after covid. I HATE blaming stuff on covid but it really feels like it shifted peoples perspective on working hard is a good thing to working hard is bad. I have tried 4 different usps locations and every one of them I have to deal with the employees disgust towards me that I refuse to just drop my packages in the wall box and request them to be scanned in at the counter... I average 10-20 small to medium packages a day... I always smile, great them and try to keep them in a happy place but more often than not I leave feeling like I caused someone harm from their attitudes... craziness... With THIS being said and the reason I get scans at the counter before leaving is if they are this lazy at the counter I 100% cannot depend on them scanning in all the packages from the wall dump bin and I have been bitten by this many times AND lost top rated on ebay because of usps non-scans. Sellers, your doing nothing wrong. Get your scans.
You are right about the laziness. There's an alphabetical code with the QR code and this lady got mad because I asked her to punch it in because her scanner can't register my code with a small crack in my phone. It was two packages. They are not doing Manual labor! The laziness is just beyond my comprehension! And they make good money!
This just happened to me recently with four packages that were sent out on the same day. Unfortunately, I have to rely on my mail carrier picking up my packages because I currently don't have a vehicle. I've had problems in the past with him not scanning packages, and this particular day he didn't scan my items after picking them up, and 4 of the 10 packages ended up getting lost. Fortunately, the packages all eventually got to their destination, but they were delivered way past the due date. I said something to him recently and he has scanned all of my packages right after pickup since then.
I have to go to USPS everyday for my fulltime job so very convenient for me to do 1 day shipping. Never shipped late. Besides my USPS is about 5 minutes from my house.

Last year I had to go out of town during the week to be at my Dad’s emergency surgery, we have same day handling on our store. I got back late because I hit a deer and totaled my Jeep. This caused us to ship 10 packages one day late. My late shipment percentage jumped from 0 to 2.9% and I had to go three months without getting a late scan/late arrival. It was pretty hectic, but in the normal course of business 3% is a high bar if you use best practices. In retrospect when I went out of town I should have changed my handling time temporarily in bulk editor (or turned off shipping for that one weekday in the cut off times screen). Next time I leave town I will give myself an extra day unless my wife is home to ship for me.

I have always wondered- ebay states on my listings that ' seller ships within 1 business day of CLEARED PAYMENT". I always ship the next day ( even saturdays), but buyer payments to me never clear before 1-1/2 to 2 days. What is the deal with that?
I haven’t seen that myself, but I can’t assure you that even if the payment hasn’t cleared, Ebay requires you to ship it within your stated handling time. Good news is I’ve never had a payment not clear with Ebay and and if there was a situation like that, Ebay ended up paying me anyway
that line on your listing is there to provide info to the buyer, so it means that you will ship within 1 business day of the buyer paying. even though it's weirdly oddly i agree haha
Most inventory will sell, it is just a matter of where the market is on that item and if you are willing to sell it that low. With that said, if an item wont sell at my lowest price point, I will give it a solid year before either lotting it out with similar items or I will just toss it out. I say a year because an item might need seasonality before it moves. As an example, I bought a part for a tractor (axle knee) for $1. Terapeak showed that historically this sold for $200+. So I made sure I was the lowest price and after almost a year, someone bought it for $140 plus shipping, and I was at the point of giving up on it.
