    I've had both. The Maine coon was more of a challenge but lots of fun and loved snuggles. The rag doll was more like a throw pillow than a cat. Both big beautiful boys.

      I lost my Ragdoll boy ( of *18 years* ) this year... in January... *he died in my arms* IN the emergency vet's parking lot the second we arrived. :'( It broke my heart...and it's still broken. 😥💔 Now I have 2 Maine Coon kittens (well, they're just over a year old; but for a MC, that's still a "kitten," right?? LOL). When I got them, they were 9 months old. They _are_ very different breeds, of course, but I find that my Maine Coon BOY (I have both a boy and a girl) does a lot of things my Ragdoll did...not just "normal" cat things but strange little purrsonality quirks lol.
      And...you're right; the boy MC I have is _such_ a cuddlebug!!! 😻 But don't get it twisted, it's _only_ on *HIS* terms. 🤣 (But he _will_ tolerate the rare occasion I need a cuddle, myself, and cart him around like luggage LOL). My girl MC kitty is a love bug too; but she is much more standoffish, especially with people she doesn't know. In fact, I'M really the only person she _does_ like. 😅 They are from a shelter; and I was told she'd be a bit of a challenge bc she was not "handled" much as a younger kitten.
      My Ragdoll boy was ...how do I put this... *velcro* ?? *Superglue* ??? 😅 He was _hardly_ the stereotype of the "aloof, independent" cat we always hear so much about. And of course, that was _good_ because I loved him _just_ as much :) He slept with me. He ate with me. He stole my food. He watched me take a bath. He got *IN* the bath _with_ me (both my MC boy and Ragdoll boy _love_ water haha). He would not leave my side...He was _never_ far from me. Losing him was the hardest thing I've ever gone through; still not "over" it and I don't know if I will ever be. 😥💔 He was what I term, my "soul cat." He was also my *ESA* (Emotional Support Animal). I suffer from epilepsy / Grand Mal seizures. And man...even tho this happened in January, I'm not sure life will ever be the same without him. I miss him terribly...he was my _everything_ ... 😥❤ My banner pic is testimony to my love of the breed. 😻 But now I have a _new_ breed to love - the regal Maine Coon!!! 😃🥰❤

      @@siadawn I am so sorry for the loss of your Ragdoll kitty. It's never easy losing a pet as most of us treat pets like family. I lost a Snowshoe in 2020. His name was Bandit. Then a year later a stray cat kept hanging around my house. I wasn't ready to adopt another cat after Bandit passing away so I didn't bring the stray in the house. But he kept hanging around so I bought him a kitty house and got hard plastic and made him an eating/water area to keep the wind and dirt away from the food and it was next to the cat house and named him Kit Kat. About a month ago, he got into a scuffle with I believe a skunk and I think was sprayed in the face. I didn't have the money to take him to a vet and so he died a week later. He would always be in my drive way when I got home from work meowing for food. I miss Kit Kat hanging around my house. I can't believe I miss just a stray cat. I'm still undecided if I'm ready to actually adopt and bring another cat into my house. Losing 2 in 2 years is too much for me.

    I did a DNA test on my female cat, she is Russian Blue, Maine Coon, and Ragdoll. She was 15lbs at her peak weight. She is 16 years old now, has kidney issues (stage 1) and thyroid, hyperthyroidism (medication works for her) that just turned up. YES, you have to play with them, she was so wild as a kitten. She was a rescue, very chatty, and runs the house lol. Best cat!

      @VARY78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Do you feed any kibble (dry/hard food)? Swapping to a wet food diet will be SO much healthier for her kidneys and body in general. Kibble is a common cause of kidney issues a majority of the time and almost always the reason cats get urinary tract diseases, it's important they get enough hydration in their diet. When they can't get enough hydration then the kidneys work harder and eventually cannot flush enough minerals out. Cats wait to drink until they're around 8% dehydrated already and it would take them over 2,000 laps of water to drink an entire cup since all they can do is flick water into their mouthes unlike dogs who can scoop. So as you can see... it's very important they get enough fluid in their diet. A low ash (phosphorus and magnesium) wet food food is all you need. I work in feline nutrition, I see it a lot and it's very easy to help it with a proper diet!

I also have two Ragdolls, and they are very jealous. They will hiss a lot but don't get too close! 14 years ago we rescued a very young Calico that was pregnant. She gave us four beautiful kittens. My makes all food dishes fall, if they are empty, and will bang metal dish on a floor by pressing one side of it with paw and letting it go constantly, that is his way of saying, I have no food. Makes me to never forget to add food for the night unless I want to be awaken with a bang. His water bowl is so big that he can swim in it, anything smaller is not a water bowl in his opinion, and he likes to dig it, making everything, including himself, wet. Breeder warned that water bowl has to be heavy, so we have smaller one too, but very heavy so he can't move it, but mostly just other cat uses it.

When the last one passed we decided to stick to small dogs as they are easier to take on holiday. We bought a RD ….read reviews from the breeder, sounded great he was 17 weeks when we got him. He is the most anti social cat we have ever had, can only touch him if HE wants on his time, he is the total opposite from what I had seen in RD from others and researched on. After we had him a few months I found out the breeder had so many kittens at the one time she would pick out her favourite and ignore the others, so they didn’t really get any human interaction in the most important part of their life …the first nine weeks. PLUS, she let the kittens run wild on there acreage so he had become addicted to the outdoors …..I was sooooooo tempted to send him back, as I had even told her I wanted an indoor cat. So even though I researched the breeder, I will NEVER ever buy another pet without first meeting the kitten/puppy. She lived too far away so he was transported to us, never ever, ever again. I don’t care how adorable or how wonderful the reviews are I will never believe them, I honestly think she got her friends to write reviews for her. A friend was telling me about a relative who had a RD with the exact temperament of ours and I am convinced they came from the same breeder, said they got him from out west from where we live, she said you would swear she was describing our RD, his was exactly the same ….so beware and never purchase a pet that you can’t physically see and touch first.

    I currently have a ragdoll. She is VERY affectionate. She is vocal. She is a mouser, even though she is inside 100% of the time. She is extremely playful and loves her dry food. She hogs the bed and loves to wake me up for pets.

    My ragdoll is an amazing climber. Learned how to crawl up our 6 foot cat tree by scaling up the scratching posts before she learned how to jump platform to platform. Couldn't even keep her separated from the other cats we have during the introduction phase via 2 baby gates ontop of eachother. She would just climb up both baby gates and jump over.
    So yeah lol, not all ragdolls are less inclined to climb

    I have 5 cats! 2 came from the shelter and 2 were 'barn' babies; 1 came from a 2nd chance rescue & is the only one I know her breed - Japanese Bobtail. I am guessing that 2 of my 'mutts' may have Maine Coon because of their size and appearances; the other 2...WHO KNOWS> But they all get along, and enjoy lounging at one of many window beds available to them. Their ages range from 7 - 13 years old now with no health issues (thankfully). I would love a Ragdoll but will have to wait until my little pride 'ages out' and going forward will only have TWO cats. LOL No more crazy cat lady, but I love them all.

    I have a mix breed coon only because I took in a female that none wanted. A year later she gave birth to 4 kittens, and 1 was a giant kitten. Found our later that mom's grandma was 100% main coon!! He big, beautiful, you'd never know he's mixed, and what I love is when I look in his eyes it feels like a soul looking back at me!!

    I have two sibling cats that are half ragdoll. They look like your regular tabby cats but the ragdoll genes run strong when it comes to personality. So sweet, so tolerant (except bathtimes), always splayed out on the floor.

    I rescued a Maine Coon mix from a feral life about 5 years ago. What was known was that she was about 11 or 12 years old then, somewhat abandoned by a man too old to care for her. She was a wonderful, sweet cutie, a beautiful Tuxedo who loved to cuddle. One day several weeks ago, without much warning, she died a horrible, violent way. I was devastated. She lived past her expiration date and at least went very fast, a happy kitty until the last few minutes; perhaps going fast is best. I only understood when I found out about HCM, and realized she likely died from a sudden heart attack. I still miss her.
    I'll get another Maine Coon or MC mix because the one I had was a great pal, personable & lovely. The MC need for frequent grooming is an opportunity for bonding, not a chore!

    My RagDolld have the softest coat ever and it’s very fine hair. They don’t have and under coat so you can see their cute pink skin because their fur gets lighter to darker from skin out. It’s so beautiful. One of my Rag Dolls have really long fur. His tail almost looks like a fluffy feather. And they are the sweetest cat, when they see a scorpion they just look at it rather than kill it.

  • @Starryflame
    @Starryflame 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    My rescue cat is part Ragdoll with tortie/harlequin silky fur and greenish blue eyes XD (more blue than green, but not that vibrant blue that Ragdolls are known for. Her kittens did have that blue though)
    She's adorable. Unsure what the other part of her is, but she goes between doing the Ragdoll Flop and the normal cattitude when I pick her up XD
    The only reason I think she'd be not good with other cats is due to the people that had her before the Rescuers got her from them, she was beaten up by other cats while she was defending her kittens, and I think the owners were cruel to her too, I also shudder to think what those owner's kids did to her too.
    She was super skittish when I got her, and it hasn't gone away, but she's mellowed out a bit more towards me, so some of the things in this story makes sense to me now

    My Ghost In The Machine, G-cat, is just the loveyest little girl. She was a rescue Maine Coon. Mamma had cast her out. I syringe fed her five times a day, I drove my Chevy K-5 to work for about 3 months so I could take her with me for her feedings. That was 10 years ago, today she's happy healthy and warm. She had one litter of kittens and was the best mommy ever. Can't imagine life without my two girls tailing my ankles and waking me up at 7:30 every morning.
    The Ragdolls are beautiful also never thought to compare them other than liking long hairs, but loved the vid. Please, be well and have fun.

    They're both big cats so they need big cat trees. Trees with more spacing and height for a big cat to sit up properly, sprawl properly, etc.

    I think my boy is a cross between the two. He has the points (black face, legs and tail with a brown body), but his eyes are gold, not blue. He also has the Maine Coon lion's mane and long body, but his face shape is soft, more like a Ragdoll. He was gifted when his first family moved overseas, so I'm not sure. He's laid back AND mischievous

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🐱 *Maine Coons and Ragdoll cats have different histories, with Maine Coons being one of the oldest cat breeds, while Ragdolls have a more recent origin, dating back to the 1960s.*
    01:22 🎨 *Maine Coons come in various colors, while Ragdolls are typically colorpoint cats with blue eyes. Maine Coons have strong, rectangular jaws, while Ragdolls have softer muzzles.*
    02:20 🧼 *Both Maine Coons and Ragdolls have fluffy coats, but Maine Coons have a thicker undercoat. Regular brushing is required for both breeds to prevent matting.*
    03:17 🐾 *Maine Coons are generally larger and longer than Ragdolls, with Maine Coons weighing between 12 and 22 pounds and Ragdolls weighing between 10 and 20 pounds.*
    04:12 😺 *Maine Coons are more energetic and prone to mischief compared to the laid-back nature of Ragdolls. Ragdolls are better with small children, and Maine Coons are more territorial with other cats.*
    05:04 ⏰ *Maine Coons require more playtime and attention due to their higher energy levels, while Ragdolls are more low-maintenance in terms of exercise.*
    06:27 🏥 *Maine Coons tend to have a slightly shorter lifespan (around 13 years) compared to Ragdolls (14 to 16 years) and may be more prone to health issues like HCM.*
    06:56 💰 *The cost of a pedigreed Maine Coon typically ranges from $1000 to $3000, while Ragdolls are priced between $1000 and $2000.*
    07:23 🏡 *Choosing between Maine Coons and Ragdolls should be based on your lifestyle and preferences, with Maine Coons being more suitable for energetic individuals with more time, while Ragdolls are a better fit for those who prefer a more laid-back lifestyle. Both breeds require grooming.*
