  • In this video I show you how to install skirting boards/ baseboards DIY GUIDE,
The first thing I do is set up my chop saw in preparation for all the cuts , I level it out both ways,
I started on a long wall and needed to do a scarf joint this gives it a better final finish,
Once I set out the skirting/baseboard I could take precise measurements for the rest of the skirting installation working from a fixed wall.
The easiest skirting/baseboard to fit and fix are pine wood, the hardest are probably MDF, but MDF is great in that it doesn't bow twist or split and can come primed already.
I used square edged skirting MDF pre primed already.
I used this square edged mdf skirting/ baseboard for that current fresh and new contemporary look.
There's some key factors you need to consider when you're installing skirting/baseboard.
    Use:
    A grab adhesive
    Fix with nail gun
If you don't have nail gun: then fix with drill plug and screw fix method.
Glue the external mitre plus scarf joint.
Scribe internal skirting if need to to close the gap this is called an internal scribe, like you see me do in the vid .
All the skirting boards/baseboards I fitted will be chalked up ,nail holes filled rubbed down with sandpaper then painted.

Hello mate, I’m just about to do my skirting and door frames and surrounds for the first time. I’m going to hire in a nail gun, is there a certain type I need, power wise. I have 1 stud wall and all the rest are solid? Cheers pal

Hello max thanks for stopping by the vid mate 👊 paslode is a great gun to use but there's some great first and second fix guns on the market, most take first and second fix nails so it's all about the price you want to pay for the gun have a look around before you commit there's alot to choose from I'd say for a one off go for something half decent it will do the job plus if you're only using it as a one off
Good luck with your project mate hope it goes OK 👍

@creativecrambo I don't understand. Is internal mitres too hard to do so it's easier just doing 90,s?

    • @creativecrambo

      @@Deanthomson88
Internal mitres are just as easy as doing 90's and your point being 🤔?

    • @Deanthomson88
      @Deanthomson88 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@creativecrambo well I was asking the benefits. But I feel your bring a bit defensive. So I'll go elsewhere and leave you with this opinion. If your doing 90's instead of mitres to internal corners... or coping them I hope you never took any money for this job because I've never seen a rougher set of mitres, even a council joiner numpty wouldn't do a job as rough as this. Let alone post a video saying its sound and making a fool of themselves... your a cowboy. P.s try be nicer to people commenting

lol why do you need the saw to be level to the earth? Surely the more important check would be to ensure it's square on both the mitre pivots... (or 45 or whatever you are cutting 😆

(Obviously, I'm going to feel like an utter tool if you come back with a good rationale for this)
