FILM DESCRIPTION:
During Prohibition, loudmouth Harlem grifter Ray (Eddie Murphy) and the no-nonsense Claude (Martin Lawrence) team up on a bootlegging mission to Mississippi that could bring them big bucks. But they run into trouble when a crooked lawman hits them with a phony murder charge. Ray and Claude are given life sentences and shipped off to jail, where they must think of a way to prove their innocence and avoid the brutal guards while battling their biggest enemies -- their opposing personalities.

This comedy was underrated? I honestly can't recall. Nonetheless it is very well written movie. The mixture of comedy and sadness is perfect.
This scene makes me smile, laugh, and cry at the same damn time... this was my upbringing yo... they don’t quite make movies like these anymore.
I like that scene when Sergeant Dillard told them that they were being transferred to the superintendent's mansion and he say's "And I for one won't miss you." But then for a brief moment you could see the sadness on his face just before he walks away. Dillard knew that this was the last time he would ever see them and the eyes don't lie.

@@defblinders9585he was and notice hopin bob didn't wanna shoot biscuit. He hesitated and didn't shot. Another guard shot biscuit. After a while you tend to see past the crime and see these ppl were still human. Even tho biscuits skinned his landlady alive and made a jacket outta her 😅

Something about how this movie ends just leaves me so empty on the inside. Sure they escaped prison, but all their friends died and the movie doesn't show them reconnecting with family back in new york. It's making me sad just thinking about it. Eddie and Martin put their feet in this movie. The pain we feel for these characters is a testament to who they were brought to life.

If Claude's girlfriend was still alive, I imagine he could have at least seen her one last time and even meet her family. Who knows maybe he and Ray got to celebrate the new millennium with them before passing away.
What family? They didn't have kids, and any nieces and nephews have forgotten about them by then.
Powerful scene....some ppl we love we fall out with for months, years for whatever reason but sometime we never stop caring for them.

@@ronnies.3440 Eddie, Martin, Bernie, the whole indelible cast cemented why I had to see this one in 99' with friends. It was amazing! The best part was this master class comedy brought out all cultures, races, creeds in there loving it. Like God's family all needing a laugh escaping all the craziness in our world. :)

Sad they wasted all them years not talking to each other and all it took was them both standing on the bottles because Ray didn't want to shoot Claude
Claude was the problem. He didn't appreciate Ray for his escape attempts even though it backfire. When his former girlfriend asked for a appeal for Ray but refuse stating he's the blame for everything.
Claude was always selfish throughout the movie until this point. He finally realized Ray though it was his fault was genuinely sorry and cared about him.

I think Martin toe really slip in a bottle and Eddie broke seeing it but it’s dope to see them still stay in character and ride it out.😂

I loved Martin Lawrence growing up. I know Eddie was the more famous one, but Martin just made me happy inside. There was something endearing about him.

Cool for the movie, I reckon, but actually this was based on the peonage days of Jim Crow. Ray would’ve taken that deal and put one in Claude’s back pocket, ole boy would’ve walked him out the front gate all right, then capped him too. 📚

Martin Lawrence did accidentally got his toe stuck in a bottle but Martin Lawrence kept going, despite Eddie Murphy's laughing, which is genuine.
In a sense this scene was a homage to the film Brubaker with Robert Redford. Inmates were also standing on bottles as punishment. Also actor Brent Jennings (Hoppin' Bob) played in Brubaker and was a trusty in that as well.
Always loved this movie. It was funny and sad at the same time.
