      @getrektfurious8449 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@masonorosco1090 Actually, that statement is alot more opinionated then factual. At the end of the day, those choices of taking ones life comes down to the pure mentality of faith, fear and friction. Many brave and courageous people throughout history have taken their own lives. Illnesses, warfare, mental battles, etc. When you are thrusted into that darkness, that scenario and it seems like hope is nowhere to be found and no one will EVER truly understand what you are going through, it becomes just too much. More then just getting over it, or saying living is more beneficial. But having just a void of uncertainty can cloud, distort and taint any hope in your life. That's why people NEED to be there for each other. That light can be brightened with anothers help and care, but even then when a person is too far gone and the darkness is everywhere, sometimes in their eyes what they do is the only logical thing. And that doesn't make them weak, spineless or lacking. They are just doing the best they can with what they BELIEVE they have, and it is sad when that leads them to that result.

    They could have treated Biscuit''s character as stereotypical comic relief but this one scene adds nuance and layers with just the acting alone.

      Once someone is part of that system for so long, it must be insanely difficult to adjust back to freedom. And from what I have seen there is basically NO support system in place to help people transition. I never realized that until I met someone who had been in prison for 20 years and was released. It was impossible for him to get help and adjust and he wound up right back in there a short time later. It really opened my eyes. I’m someone who firmly believes that if you did the crime, you need to do the time. But the fact is that unless someone is put away for life, they WILL be released and we seem to do nothing to help them once they are. It seems like it would be in the best interest of EVERYONE to at least give someone a fair chance to reintegrate with some sort of support. But we don’t seem to do that.
      I’m glad you were able to overcome it. 👏🏻

      Uhh its one of the most underrated films by Eddie Murphy. I went to see it in Theatre when I was a kid and loved it. Life is one of those Black movies that probably most black people around that time probably saw so its pretty popular amongst the American black crowd. Most white people didnt see it cause they probably saw it as another eddie murphie flop. But this film had a lot of very popular black comedians who werent that popular during that time including Bernie Mac.

    What's truly sad is, I had a father in prison, most of the people in there was frightened of leaving cause their wasn't anything they could do. The hatred and stigma of being an ex con prevented most jobs, people looked down in you and hated you, never really gave a chance to them. The only way they knew how to survive, to be happy was being in prison, only place they knew how to live.
    And I'm talking about real life, FSP, RAIFORD, the prisons beside FSP were just as bad even tho minimum custody.
    Prisons was supposed to be about reform and allow you to be a productive member of society after you paid your debt, real life? It's become about money and the prisoners becoming slaves or next to it.

    The best comedies are the ones that are also deep and Life had many deep moments like, the prisoners escaping reality in Ray's Boom Boom Room, Claude in the 1970s looking at world he doesn't recognize because he's been on the jail property for 40 years and sees an old man staring back at him in the reflection of a car window & this heartbreaking scene of Biscuit choosing death because he feels he can no longer function outside of prisoner & his family wouldn't accept who he's become during his incarceration. What really gets me everytime in this scene is how Hoppin Bob had him in his sights and just couldn't pull the trigger leaving the guard in the tower to shoot and kill him. I have no idea how this movie was mostly panned by critics, which is why I never take critic reviews and Rotten Tomatoes scores seriously
