- The spear, commonly known as the "get over here" move is without a doubt the most iconic move that has ever appeared in a fighting game. It has been Scorpion's staple since the very first instalment of the game back in 1992 until MK11, which is the latest iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Ed Boon has used his voice for Scorpion’s “get over here!” and “come here” for over two decades (now three as I edit this) haha.
Edit 2023: he’s still one of my favorite fighting game characters along with King (Tekken series), and Nightmare/Siegfried (Soul series)

It actually changed like 4 times, the original only being in mk 1992 and then it being changed in mk2/umk3. Then it changed again in mk4 and it stayed that way until mkx except for shaolin monks which also has a different sound clip that is now being used in mk11/mk1

4:15 Surprisingly, the way the opponent moves when getting pulled looks most realistic in MK9 than the games after.
As a 3 year old kid, I used to get chills from MK1's Scorpion "Come here"
The ferocity was something I haven't heard from the later games. It was just there.

That ferocity of Scorpion's request to approach him has not gone anywhere as it is still Ed Boon's yell they use.

Has to be one of the most simple but ultimately satisfying moves to hit in any fighting game. The early games with the sound effect, the point of impact and the slight pause before the "GET OVER HERE" was perfect.

As someone who was alive and playing in arcades when the original scorpion / MK was released, he will always be my favorite! Higher resolution and more pixels aren’t always better!

I still think they perfected Mortal Kombat with number 3 ... the sound, the vibe, the game play ... it's just the best. I don't know if it's nostalgia but I've played Mortal Kombats since my local arcade got the original in 1993. The new ones have better graphics but I still prefer 3 somehow.
Hell yea man! I mean, the new ones are great but MK ruled the world back in it's arcade hey-day. At one point in the 90's, there was nothing cooler. I mean, my mom wouldn't even let me play it back in those days when I was young, and that of course made it all the more bad-ass! Of course, kids playing the OG trilogy now would think that shit is cheesy as hell! Unless you were there to see it back in the day, you will never know just how revolutionary these games looked when they first came out. Everyone thought digitized graphics were the future back then, they were the most realistic and life-like yet!
I like to include the whole trilogy of games as being the golden era of MK. Hell, I'll even go as far as 4, but no farther. The end of the arcade era is when shit started going downhill, and of course they were never going to recapture the glory days of their youth and reach the heights they did during that golden era of fighting games in general, really. MK, of course, forming a huge piece to that puzzle. As with everything else in life, nothing beats the originals.
Yup! I feel the same way. My friends and I would play this game all the time! We didn't have cell phones in those days. Those fun days are long gone! I wished they would do a remake of 3
Totally agree, MK3 was the best. I played MK 1, 2, 3 and trilogy (was it MK3 + more levels and characters?). The MK 4 (3D) wasn't my thing, and at that point played games less and less in general, so my interest faded away. I must admit the latest MK games look good and I understand why people like them, but so many iterations make the differences less relevant and they all look similar. There is definitely a nostalgia factor in it, but MK3 was at the peak of MK and then they switched to 3D, which wasn't the same thing and it took a while to make 3D look very good.
3 was the best and I been kicking ass on Mk 11 but 3 was the best character selection feel and effects. Without mk3 the videogame franchise wouldn't have thrived as much as it does.
I gotta say, I am most familliar with MK3 and although I enjoyed MK9 a lot...the vibe/feel of MK3 was something....something different...something special. It was dark and gritty....very doom and gloom.

Mortal kombat is one of my favorite gaming franchises. Some great memories growing up and playing these games. I was like 5 years old playing mk trilogy with my older bro’s every day. Good times.
