Everytime I watch this video I uncover more gold. I feel like I'm in a classroom at Reason University and the professor is just as excited as I am to dive into all the Reason tools and techniques available with this DAW. I must confess, even after being a long time Reason from day 1 I am still just scratching the surface to discover just how truly phenomenal the Reason DAW is and has been since the start.
Thank you brother! I have been looking for solid information on how to use the reason program correctly, and your videos, are straight to the point, and insightful. Best ive seen on here.
The mixer in Reason is top notch! You sound design, you record your stuff. Now what? You need a mixer and you need to learn how it works and you will open doors you never know about.
This is a GREAT VID! The mixer in Reason is daunting but this is really helping me wrap my brain around it! I was looking for info for Reason to the left when I shoulda looked to the riyute!
Hi matt, in my college music class, an audio engineer came in to demonstrate routing buses and sends on a smallish mixer; he told us that he prefers to leave the individual channel Db faders at zero and use the gain knobs instead. Is this something you would consider and if not, why? He was also talking about sub-grouping the mix?
these are some great videos, especially the gain structuring. I never knew that, and you've really given me something to think about, and i've got a whole new view on the SSL, and mixing in general. I was wondering though, if you could make a video explaning the signal flow of the master section, because i'm quite confused sometimes, if the M-bus comp comes before the inserts, and how the master out level modifies the inserts and/or the M-bus comp etc. etc. Really looking forward your next video, oh and merry christmas :)
Great Learning on all your tutorials there my go to vids. Ok is the SENDS part of the INSERT up in the INPUT section the 3 choices of DYN,EQ,INSERT. or is the INSERT only the INSERTS/combinatory. and the SENDS is its own element by it self ? thanks for your time.
No they are all different sections of the mixer and all do different things. I explain all this in the Learn Reason SSL Mixer tutorial series. th-cam.com/play/PLAB78vtCXAbyb_EFk7w8zDhPsLC42CeMY.html
This is a very usefull tip, never looked out for this way of working, for as I always thougth that that part of the mixer was equal to the inserts on the master bus. No I know better!!, and thank you so much. Just a general small question about it. Do I have to use this Inserts ONLY on bounced audiofiles, or can I allready use them while working and playing with midi data and VSTi's? Greetings from Edwin Siol, The Netherlands
Thank you for the quick answer! I know that, but what to choose? ;) Sofar, I have always been using the inserts on midi tracks, including the mixing stage. However, the depths of my workingflow nowerdays forces me to bounce instruments to audio files, even before mixing stage. I'm figuring it out for myself now, bouncing with and/or without the inserts directly bounced with the midi, or after it's bounced to audio (with the inserts enabled, and then re-added on the audiobus / track) The use of inserts while in the creating process is a very important deal. But I should not give it to much attention, while playing insturments and recording midi, when it's only added and set up to a bounced audio file at the end. Sounds like double work to a lazy me. Besides this all, I like Reason 10 sofar so good ;)
Agree with the other comments. This has been so informative for me. I have been doing things completely wrong up until now. Quick question, you add "sub" channels to each track. What is this? Does each track end up having three channels? Maybe you have made a video explaining this already? Thanks again.
I am just adding parallel channels that's all and then a Bus for them. I did a video on how to do this here is a link. th-cam.com/video/BakxFKh0ymo/w-d-xo.html
LearnReason Sorry, I'm a real newb! So why are you calling them Sub? My other question is, why would you add a parallel channel and then a Bus? Thanks.
Simon Brookes Sub mix channels are made up of 2 or more channels that are sent to a channel that is use to control the level of all the channels that are bussed to it. You can also add effects on the Sub to effect the sound of all the channels going into it. You can name Sub channels a Sub mix or a Bus of say the Drums, it's just a choice of words wether you use Sub or Bus. Watch the video I posted a link to in my previous post it will show you why and what Parallel processing is and how the Bus channel works.
you made a tut about gain staging. So why you have the output bus on - 5, when you clearly explained in the other tut, that balancing audio to -10 or -7 should be done with input control and not with the slider?
how do you bounce individual tracks with Insert FX applied to the individual track? I dont want to bounce the FX as a separate audio file, I want the insert FX applied to the track(s) I have it on.
I did that but what ever insert FX I have on that channel for some reason does not print. I have to Solo each sound then Bounce the Master Fader Track. Their has got to be a better way
There has got to be an easier way. It is baffling they one can not print the faders with the insert effects directly on the stem. So far my way of Soloing each track and bouncing Master fader is easier
Everything is correct, but the use of parallel channels formed phase delay. It may not be a nuisance when using a single device, but the powerful Combinator presets very tired. I use VMG01 sample delay ... unfortunately. Waiting for automatic compensation of latency in Reason, as for example in Studio One where you do not have to worry about such problems. Without the creation of parallel channels is flop. You have explained everything very well. I subscribed and greet.

One of the greatest TH-cam videos on Reasons Mixer.
Like why would any soul dislike this gem? Great stuff
I just love Reason more after watching one of these videos. :) :) :)
I like your Avatar. I teach at a music academy that uses it as a logo :). And I love Reason, too!
absolute genius thank you!

What an unbelievable teacher, I always tried to avoid the SSL till now, thanx

you made my day; combinators on every track ! ! !
" Thank You Matt ; BRILLIANTLY HELFUL ! "
This lesson blow my mind. Thank u sir!
This is great, as are all of your videos, thanks Matt.

Great to hear it helped you out!
great lessons about the mixer
Great video. Thank you. The lyrics sound like something Ace Frehley would write!!
Thanks Matt!
Useful info Thx!
thanks for these videos !!!
Pretty clear!!! Thanks Matt.

Appreciate that
love this video

You can choose what Reason includes when you export the tracks.

cool song, sounds like bill wyman

This is a tutorial on the input and inserts section of the mixer, it is not about gain stage or static mix.
@@LearnReason so it just hasn't happened yet here. thx!
how do you bounce individual tracks with Insert FX applied to the individual track? I dont want to bounce the FX as a separate audio file, I want the insert FX applied to the track(s) I have it on.
Just goto File and choose Export and than choose what you want to export, it is really quit easy.

Look at 5:12 in this tutorial do what I do but also select the track you want also.

I do not think I understand what you want do do? Am I correct when I say you want to export a track with just the Sends?
Everything is correct, but the use of parallel channels formed phase delay. It may not be a nuisance when using a single device, but the powerful Combinator presets very tired. I find that dead confusing
Really? Its very simple it just allows you to send the signal through the mixer in any order you want. And control the input signal to the mixer.
