I always put a high pass filter on the 'External Side Chain' for the Master Compressor. It helps the compressor work the low-mid, mid to high without effecting the low end.
Thank you Matt for your time and knowledge on Reason I am learning so much so fast and you make learning great fun every aspect of this mixer is so great Antonio from UrbanSoundesign
05:22 - I don't know why the hell I never thought of doing this before. You're right, it makes so much sense. I've been doing it post mixing then once turning on I've had to do many changes in the mix. Thanks for that advice.
Very nice tut, I use it like you do, but I use a higher release time (not auto), to avoid pumping effects on the sound, however I agree you should turn on the master compressor at the very beginning of your mix.
@@soundsfromYYBY No that is the Stereo Output Bus it is called the Master Section, not Master Location. All mixers have mix channels that are summed out to a stereo bus. The main mixer in Reason has a Master Bus Compressor on the stereo output bus (Master Section) you can have it on or off. You can also insert any combination of effects on the main stereo output bus (Master Section). The MClass Compressor is not the same thing as the Main Bus Comp that was modeled after an SSL9000K which is a far superior bus compression than MClass is.
@@LearnReason right the Master Section. but both still mastering plugins, my point is if I'm using the MClass to master my finish product why use the BUS compressor?
@@soundsfromYYBY Again the Master Bus Compressor is far better than the MClass compressor when used as a bus compressor. Use what you want, use both or use one, it's your choice.
Why does Reason do that? I hear the sound going in and out using that compressor, it gets loud and then soft. It’s not a consistent volume level like the other DAW’s and this messes up my songs often.
I would have went with a 4 to 1 ratio instead to let more of the transients come through, and compressed more if I had to, but everybody's got their own taste.

XysteRST205 Nice...Thanks for sharing!
This is the way to do it, other wise your lower frequencies will be pumpy and have an increased attack

love your vids, you should have video coarse packs for dl;)
Thank you Matt!!!!
Is Reason's master bus actually from SSL? As in, is it specifically an emulation of one of the SSL models? I know there are many like the G-Bus
Yes it is from a SSL 9000k
Thanks Matt 2020 💎💎💎💎

i dont get it..why have this bus compressor when Reasons have the master compressor on the mastering location?
Mastering location? Are you talking about the stereo bus?
@@LearnReason mastering location is where all the MCLASS plugins are?

Maybe watch this tutorial it will help you understand how a compressor works. th-cam.com/video/prdhQOOayfU/w-d-xo.html
why can't I use a plug in compressor??
I do not understand your question?

You are right its up to the person mixing and I just wanted a little control that is it.
