On accrochera dedans la photo
de notre capitaine qui a disparu -- tout en haut --
un peu plus bas du second, plus bas du troisième
nous échangerons nos femmes et nous ferons beaucoup d'enfants
et ensuite le calfaterons un grand bateau
neuf, tout neuf et nous le lancerons à la mer
nous aurons vieilli mais ils ne reconnaîtront

What's remakable about the orchestration and its performance is how Theo has gotten the winds to sing (a la messian, his teacher) while at the same time supported by that wonderful cello/cellist underneath.
Now as for that 'singer', well gee, i'm really soory that he lost his voice under torture during the junta days but really--political sympathies go only so far...
@@ElzbietaChojnicka-wf6ir The sad fact is that Theo always had isues with voice qua instrument. And altho his positives were many, along with his bizouki obsession, his use of voice as a rebus of personality notches him down to a good composer rather than great,
In other words, the klunkiness of Faranduri and Pandis means, simp;y. that mediocre artists with lots of PC on ther resume are still unqualified to perform with a symphonic orchestra. Of course, this middelbrow ,ental disorder is everywhere; looking back, it began with...Theo.
I never heard this version before, I knew only the version of Maria Farandouri ! This is so beautiful and sad at the same time ; make me cry !!!
This version (but then not live) is on the album "Ballads of Anagnostakis" from 1975, unfortunately not available anywhere anymore. Very beautiful indeed.

The cello and claranet obligatos are magnificent--as well as the piano's undertonal pacing. I'm curious as to who created this wonderful orchetration...Regrettably, however, Pandis has lost his voice; although even when he had it I never liked his overwrought style and excessive dynamics...
Ta krytyka wydaje mi się przesadna. I nie uważam, że stracił głos. Zresztą jeśli się nie lubiło jego śpiewu, to trudno o obiektywną ocenę.!!! Na szczęście są inni, którzy uwielbiają jego głos, a nie sądzę, żeby tyłu ludzi się myliło. Dla mnie jesteś wspaniały Petros.!!!

@@elzbietachojnicka I'm 'objectively' saying that the orchestration is wonderful, but Pandis has always been a croaker. I'm also 'objectively saying that as a great composer, Theo had his weak points in selecting voices who had no concept of Legato (thankfully, there was Zorbala!), and muddy orchestration and direction.
So what's amusing is that you seem to have no concept of 'objective' standards in music. So r u really Polish? You sound like a middel amerikun in suggesting that 'good' music is anything that one 'likes' --standards notwithstanding.

The cello obbligato is beautiful beyond belief!
Otherwise, it would seem as if the monotone of Pandis detracts from the bold statements of which Anagnostakis is rightfully famous: "I will remain alone with you upon this ship...".In this respect, I do not have access to Theo's scoring, which might, in fact, demand a supressed, chromatic sadness which the singer, sadly, brings to the text.
I would also refer back to the original 'Ballades' of 1976 and image what Zorbala could have done (far better!) with all of the songs. I've always found Pandis to be an emotive poseur lacking in any real musical skills.
Kim jesteś,? Znawcą muzyki i śpiewu, że tak deprecjonujesz talent tego artysty??? Jeśli Mikis Theodorakis angażował go wykonywania swoich utworów, to chyba widział u niego talent. A już użycie tej inwektywy, zakrawa na chamstwo. Przepraszam za mocne słowo, ale nie mogłam znaleźć łagodniejszego.!!!
