This means footprints, pads, netting, and/or heating source to ameliorate. This means lots of weight and bulk. I recently jumped on the hammock bandwagon. In a relatively compact and lightweight package, one can sleep entirely off the ground (no ground cold, dampness, objects poking), entirely enclosed from bugs, and covered from rain and wind. But the big downside is severe lack of back support, and the challenge of getting in and out of the sleep system, plus, it relies on biomes with nicely spaced trees. So I really like the idea of a cot to get off of the cold, damp, buggy, rocky ground, plus a tent. The downside being the bulk and weight. There are those hanging shelters that mountaineers use, essentially a hanging cot tent which combine the advantages of a cot and hammock tent plus being lightweight and compact. But they are fabulously expensive, being such specialized pro gear for serious climbers. I am experimenting now with a similar concept on the cheap. It is easier to get in and out of, has good back support, and is a fairly good shelter.

Bob Robert that is super funny. We try not to wear corduroy out here even if it's incredibly warm, it's annoying. Some coats are just noisy, and the colder it gets the crunchier. Leather is relatively quiet when it's worn and soft and not squeaky, but get it wet and you are done for.

One thing I enjoy about your videos. It’s that camp food doesn’t have to suck. It’s evolved so much since I was in the scouts in the 80’s. I always show these videos to my boys to keep them inspired. Thanks.

Such a peaceful and relaxing video to watch ,to take away the noise of city living. Thanks for sharing your solo camp out with us . Best wishes from Simon and Beth 🌳💕💖🌳😀👌
I have two of these! Firstly, terrible for bad weather. BUT!!! They have three or four great utilities. 1. With two you can make a nice naturally closed off camp, get a windbreaker and it's a nice set up around a fire. 2. It's nice to sit on them. 3 (and this is big) I mostly use this inside other tents when you want an extra cubicle. I have a square tent and a couple of times with one other person I've used these so that we each have a private sleeping space. So pretty good.
I'd carry a tarp to be strung over it if more than a cm of rain is expected...if alone. If I set up a proper tent, then I wouldn't bother...just sleep on the cot.
I don't know about weird. I am 100% disabled and this tent brought camping back to me. It keeps me off the ground. I don't have to wait for my meds to kick in before I can stand up. It is a GREAT innovation and we love ours.
I like the design of this package. There is a place to sit off the ground, a place to shelter off the ground, and a chance of good ventilation. I would select different components, based on ones I already own and like.
If it's like the one on my Amazon wish list, it's a pre-made bundle, you can't mix-and-match. But if you already have like a sleeping bag or fly-tarp you could probably switch things around in the carry case
We have something similar for years here in Australia. But not called a tent, it’s called an enclosed camp bed. Has windows and fly screens and doors open both sides. Not sure it’s waterproof or comes with all the gear. Enjoying your content Andy. Best wishes from Western Australia.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I’ve set up similar system when I was at friends place that had too much company I set it up in corner of living /family room and I had my privacy And made it not awkward for anyone in room Great for those kind of sleepovers
Teton tents makes a version that would work. I am 6 foot 3 and by no means supermodel skinny. Their XXL camp cot, with pop up tent and rainfly will work.
I am a woman who has only ever slept in an add on to my late mothers touring caravan once & finally did fall asleep after worrying about insects etc as mum was new to caravanning & had'nt got all the bits & bobs but we survived the weekend on the caravan site :) I have watched your other app on the landrover conversion for some time & did'nt realise till i watched these that you were the same guy . I am from the North East of England in the middle between Darlington /Stockton On Tees & Middlesbrough but i'm married to a Man of Kent or a Kentish Man depending on which side of the Medway you come from ( he's a Man Of Kent ) have been down to Inlaws a few times but never managed a walk through the woods on Bluebell Hill when they are out . Absolutely love Kent & the people. Within days of meeting my future mother in law people were coming up to me at the bus stop saying " You must be Peggy's daughter in law to be , we have heard so much about you , then sat on the bus with me & told me all the nice shops to go in to in Maidstone which i thought was great xx
I bought a stretcher tent (OZ Tent Stretcher Bunker Bed) years ago and was quite impressed how quick it was set up. It was easy to use just as an open bed with a mosquito net and pretty much water proof when fully set up. Used it for almost two month twice in the Australian bush and really liked it. It had no mattress tho, so I got cold from underneath and had to buy one. Easy fix, wonderful nights out there!
I love how compact the tent is, and all that comes with it. It's above ground which is good, for keeping dry and for the back and legs. He is well equipped. The mini cook stove is too cute, and worked perfectly. The beauty and quiet of the woods, is so relaxing. Thank you for a pleasant vid. God bless and keep safe. 😊👍🙏
When our church group went camping, everyone would help each other set up their campsite, which was so nice. And we had an option of staying in a tiny bedroom with bath and old furniture. But it was indoors and those of us too wimpy to sleep outdoors could "day camp" the two days we were out there!
I wouldn't like to heft the tent and cast cookware for any distance but would love it all as a base camp. Tent reproofing and seam sealing would seal it plus a tarp over would be ideal. The duck and waffle looked great!
Looks like a banging deal that tent! Better if waterproof obviously but like you say, a tarp over top fixes that. I think I prefer the hammock because of the off the floor-ness so something like that would be awesome
I bought that exact tent this past spring to use on my hiking/ camping this season but plans got changed unexpectedly. Nice to see this as a review for it
You have an amazing talent of making this simple hobby a fascinating watch and very entertaining. Thank you I look forward to enjoying many more outings.
I have the Oztent Bunker Xl which is a Brilliant piece of kit, similar idea but with a completely waterproof flysheet and poles that pull out from the cot bed that the flysheet attaches to. Really comfortable, if your car camping this is the way to go. Really nice relaxing video Andy keep up the good work!
for that price, including an air mat, cover, inflatable pillow, AND sleeping bag, that's a proper china bargain, for a "one order" solo camping cot setup. i'm thoroughly impressed! (even if the air mat leaked) also: permanganate and glycerine are definitely a stylish way to start a fire. but i'm willing to bet, that glycerine contained too much water, that's why it took so long, and crackled so much. (it's VERY hydrophilic) if you get the good anhydrous stuff, and finer PPM, it get's going in
Wanted to let you know. I'm here to stay. I am learning so much that I didn't know. So TH-cam can do what they want, I won't go anywhere. I really enjoy your videos.
Loved this one. I can imagine using this set up with a tarp over the top and around the back to make it more wind and weatherproof. Oh, gonna do the duck and waffle dish too! Thanks fella.
I bought my first one of these campers from Cabelas when I was living in the US. You can buy "waterproof" makes and they are fabulas. I usest to use mine in the back of my pickup and I have even been out in the real cold and snow in it. To be fair I did drape a tarp over it when I knew I was going to get a hammering in the rain, but then you would expect to do that with a regular tent. Bye the way ours was a double sleeper
For all the gear you get with the tent its a great deal, I'd be tempted if they made a waterproof version. Also that is one of the most mouth watering camp meals I've ever seen on youtube🤙
Well, I got one, which was listed as “waterproof” but I treated it again. I LOVE this thing! The air mattress is comfortable, the sleeping bags (yes, I got the double) are nice.. The zippers on the door and windows work easily, the cot is heavy duty. The only negative I have is the carrying case, the handles are a little wonky so it’s hard to pull, but the wheels work well.
I too, am quite impressed with the setup. Sure, it may not be best for backpacking, or extreme weather. But for spring and summer - looks very comfortable. With an additional/separate rain fly, it would do very well. Thanks for the video 😉
Why stop there? Why not have a backpack that is the tent. Like in backpack mode, the backpack frame turns into a cot with a tent already attached. And then the tent unfold and unfurls. It means you have two less things to carry/pack.
Andy, I doubt very if anything could make you look bad my friend. Your videos are so uncomplicated they are very entertaining. When you say you love breaking down the whole duck, that is a way of paying homage to the duck, or so ancient hunters looked at it that way or getting back to nature. Yes, I do love camping and all things natural. Keep them coming mate.
You are such a camping stud and a great example of what a great friend, husband or partner should be. Even tempered and upbeat. AND you are great example of how to be respectful when camping. Me and my other women buddies in our group think you are an ideal male for living a companionable life. That’s how we see it. 13:16 You are competent and kind and you have a great smile.
I had something very similar about 12 yrs ago. Made by Caperlan, it was called "The Bed Box". I used to use it when I went night fishing, and it was rain proof. I think they have a newer version out now.
What a great idea...really like the idea of combining the tent with the sleeping system. Looks like it has some limitations - not least the lack of waterproofness/fly sheet - but perhaps as a proof of concept it's cool. I did wonder how it would bear up to a sudden gust of wind on the back of the of the tent...you might end up trapped if it blew over! 😁
It’s a bit impractical for camping but could see something like this being good for disaster relief type stuff. Everything in one bag is a great advantage for that kind of thing, a van full of these would house a lot of people without much hassle.
True; but, as an older camper, I would love having it to be able to be able to camp without being on the ground. It would definitely be easier than having to get up & down from the ground.🙂
Heyy Andy nice place beautiful scenery, the tent look great easy to set-up, sorry it's not water proof, or it would have been a fantastic tent, thanks for sharing stay safe
I always wonder how Andy manages to find these empty woodland sites? I live in rural Oxfordshire which is full of rolling woodlands but criss-crossed with so many public footpaths and bridleways finding a nice, clear, quiet area where you can camp and light a fire is virtually impossible. They'd be a friendly Spaniel out with his owner on their daily walk appearing the moment you got the Sausages out!
The private land where I live is surrounded by secure fencing with signage making it very clear to keep off. To find who even owned it would be difficult enough let alone get their permission to drive though their woodland, cut down branches, light fires etc Whilst, as I say public land offers very little in the way of genuine truly secluded places. Especially in Kent which is a very urbanised county thanks to its close proximity to London and the South-East. I enjoy Andy's content but an genuinely curious about all this.
@@LilyGazou Believe me, it's hideous. Only last week there was a protest of "Right to Roam" groups seeking more access to land - and that's just to walk, let alone camp. There are even rivers to which paddling access is restricted apparently. I largely grew up in the UK but have lived in Australia for 25 years and land freedom (so much wilderness) is such here that I'd hate to have to go back to live in the UK. Enjoy your travels.
Interesting concept. I'd fly a tarp over it for possible rain. It could be just a few inches shorter, I think, yeah? But what a very interesting option for non-backpacking camping.
Before I hurt my foot I made a cart from an aluminum bike stroller for my Shepherd to pull my camp stove , bags and tent . Just an idea for you but you have a lot of cool gear...cheers from Denver, Colorado, USA
I love duck! That looks so good! I'd never heard of "duck&waffles", but I need to try it. 😊 I really like duck eggs with rice for breakfast, richer than chicken eggs. 😎👍
The duck and waffles seems to be a riff on the fried chicken and waffles we have here in the States. Try sprinkling a little brown sugar on your Spam before you fry it, it's a whole different experience. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you for the review. This would also work in a larger tent. Great for people who have issues getting up off the ground. Personally would have brought something to put your shoes/boots in to keep critters out of them.
This looks a nice compact set up, but as you say, you'd definitely need a tarp or outer skin over that in case of rain, but could be added easily. Thanks again Andy. We are working our way through your videos. You have such a gentle manner and have a great set of kit- love your wooden bowl plate and mug and dutch oven. Look forward to your videos....giving us camping ideas too!😊

to be fair i think that tent is a great deal for someone who never went camping, it seems to come with everything you need to get started for a pretty fair price, putting it under a tarp isnt that big a deal cause you might want a tarp anyway. great for going to a camp ground you can park your car at.
I'm looking at this tent and thinking it might well suit me. Looks like an easy set up but more importantly gets me off the floor with minimal fuss. I have mobility issues but don't see why this should stop me camping. Looking at this I think it could work well with a tarp

Me and my oldest son went camping together a couple of years ago. And we had our tent and fire on the go cooking food it is so peaceful. And every time I watch your videos it brings me back to that moment with my son . I will do it again once my youngest is a little older. I’ve been watching your videos for 6 months now and they just get better and better keep up the good work I enjoy your content x❤
One thing I enjoy about your videos. It’s that camp food doesn’t have to suck. It’s evolved so much since I was in the scouts in the 80’s. I always show these videos to my boys to keep them inspired. Thanks.
Greetings from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦! I really am enjoying your channel. I’m disabled and your videos relax me, and distract me from my body wide pain 😅
The tent is an amazing idea to be fair, imagine it was more than drizzle proof, it would be excellent
That's what a tarp is for lol
@@Josh-bs4xfyes but that wasn't the point of their comment
Your right it would be great if it was waterproof, sadly at 6foot 3 it would still be too small for me😐
An arb swag is much better quality I use an ARB swag 😍😍😍
@scottishtony5059 I'm 6' 5" and it fits me just fine
Good idea
I'd carry a tarp to be strung over it if more than a cm of rain is expected...if alone.
If I set up a proper tent, then I wouldn't bother...just sleep on the cot.
@@STho205 I think you missed his point- he said "if you need a PRIVATE space inside the larger tent...
nice idea
#3 is good for the separation aspect.
It would also be an extra layer of protection in case of a surprise rain shower in the middle of the night.
I don't know about weird. I am 100% disabled and this tent brought camping back to me. It keeps me off the ground. I don't have to wait for my meds to kick in before I can stand up. It is a GREAT innovation and we love ours.
I love how much you enjoy your tea!! It makes me smile every time.
It looks so good love your video x
We have something similar for years here in Australia. But not called a tent, it’s called an enclosed camp bed. Has windows and fly screens and doors open both sides. Not sure it’s waterproof or comes with all the gear. Enjoying your content Andy. Best wishes from Western Australia.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Some nice features it seems. I'm a fan of airing out plastic/pvc bits before confined in small spaces with them. Thanks for the video!
What a beautiful tree! The whole place is gorgeous. Ah nature.
I love this. It's a Cot with a build in tent. This is a great idea 💡
I’ve set up similar system when I was at friends place that had too much company I set it up in corner of living /family room and I had my privacy And made it not awkward for anyone in room Great for those kind of sleepovers
Sounds cool 😊
Found this channel by mistake. Absolutely love it.
Me too!!! Love it!
The original version of these tents is called the Kamp Rite Tent Cot, and quite frankly they are superior to every other kind of tent for most people.
Enjoyable video as always ,great content , brilliant recipes , tent just too small for 6'4" guy like me
Teton tents makes a version that would work. I am 6 foot 3 and by no means supermodel skinny. Their XXL camp cot, with pop up tent and rainfly will work.
@@tonyboloni64yeah saw a TH-cam from Canada using that in all weather - seems awesome. Was tempted but bit squeezy with a big dog too lol😂
Love the knee height for older folks no rocks in the back and the door flap being a patio shade is great!
Something so cozy about camping videos.
I hated camping, but you've made it look so easy and enjoyable I might have another go.
i added a like, but, then, realized, I got pregnant with my first that way on an uncomfortable rock. Maybe not.
When our church group went camping, everyone would help each other set up their campsite, which was so nice. And we had an option of staying in a tiny bedroom with bath and old furniture. But it was indoors and those of us too wimpy to sleep outdoors could "day camp" the two days we were out there!
I like the idea of this tent above ground ! It is literally a forest bed , cozy enough to drink tea and read a book.
I wouldn't like to heft the tent and cast cookware for any distance but would love it all as a base camp. Tent reproofing and seam sealing would seal it plus a tarp over would be ideal. The duck and waffle looked great!
My wife and I have had this tent for about 4 years now, have used it every summer for camping. Can't complain.
You must be small that tent only fits one?
@peanuts68ful ours had a full size air mattress in it. It's definitely more comfortable solo, but it's totally doable.
@@peanuts68ful this tent is a single, ours is a double
Looks like a banging deal that tent! Better if waterproof obviously but like you say, a tarp over top fixes that. I think I prefer the hammock because of the off the floor-ness so something like that would be awesome
I bought that exact tent this past spring to use on my hiking/ camping this season but plans got changed unexpectedly. Nice to see this as a review for it
You have an amazing talent of making this simple hobby a fascinating watch and very entertaining. Thank you I look forward to enjoying many more outings.
Not only is this the camping videos we all know and love but we now have some science experiments in there too. Good stuff lol
(even if the air mat leaked)
also: permanganate and glycerine are definitely a stylish way to start a fire. but i'm willing to bet, that glycerine contained too much water, that's why it took so long, and crackled so much. (it's VERY hydrophilic) if you get the good anhydrous stuff, and finer PPM, it get's going in
I really like that... that is PERFECT for a weekend fishing trip at the lake!
Wanted to let you know. I'm here to stay. I am learning so much that I didn't know. So TH-cam can do what they want, I won't go anywhere. I really enjoy your videos.
I actually got the double bed version of exactly this tent for a festival a while back and it was 100% worth it
Could you tell us which company or a link to find these tents ? Preferably the double bed.
Loved this one. I can imagine using this set up with a tarp over the top and around the back to make it more wind and weatherproof. Oh, gonna do the duck and waffle dish too! Thanks fella.
Even with its small issues (short, not waterproof, no pockets) it’s still a pretty neat set up for the price!
**chef's kiss** on that campfire dinner.
You can waterproof it yourself, you know
@@mrs.c5471I wonder how a silicon waterproofing spray go
Well, I got one, which was listed as “waterproof” but I treated it again.
@@mrs.c5471 could you give us a link to the one you ordered?
@@mrs.c5471What's the link if you don't mind
Not a bad little set up if you are new to camping adventurers and not wanting to invest a huge amount of money ! Nice 👌
I kinda like the idea of one of these for one of those massive multi person tents you can stand up in, it would allow for a little bit of privacy :D
I too, am quite impressed with the setup. Sure, it may not be best for backpacking, or extreme weather. But for spring and summer - looks very comfortable. With an additional/separate rain fly, it would do very well. Thanks for the video 😉
I love the recipes you conjure up. Even out there you make tasty food.
I always thought it would be cool if they made a backpack frame that becomes a cot.
That is a good idea, I'm sure it can be done.
Make it
Design it and sell the idea . Get paid for the concept.
There you go! Get a patent on that 💩, for real. Great idea.
Why stop there? Why not have a backpack that is the tent. Like in backpack mode, the backpack frame turns into a cot with a tent already attached. And then the tent unfold and unfurls. It means you have two less things to carry/pack.
my reason for looking forward to Wednesday, a new video from Andy
Love these videos, even though I live in the Welsh country and have no idea what it is like to actually go camping... glad I found these videos
Watching from USA great channel will hope to see more thanks
I had something very similar about 12 yrs ago. Made by Caperlan, it was called "The Bed Box". I used to use it when I went night fishing, and it was rain proof. I think they have a newer version out now.
What a great idea...really like the idea of combining the tent with the sleeping system. Looks like it has some limitations - not least the lack of waterproofness/fly sheet - but perhaps as a proof of concept it's cool.
I did wonder how it would bear up to a sudden gust of wind on the back of the of the tent...you might end up trapped if it blew over! 😁
Unzip the door, fold it *into* the tent... stand on the (revealed) dirt, and lift the whole thing back upright :p
Needs a mozzie net for Scotland
The duck and waffles came out great!
One with nature just like when I go fishing for a few days it doesn’t bother me if I don’t catch just love the surroundings chills me out. Great stuff
Always anticipating new videos! Some of the best in the biz!
Cheers from the Prairies of Canada! 🍻🇨🇦
AND FORGOT SAY I LOVE HOW YOU EXPLAIN SETTING UP DIFFERENT TENTS ⛺️
BECKY 😊XX
At some point in my life I aspire to experience the level of joy this chap attains regularly upon the first tea sip
Good off-the-ground tent for camping in forest, not in the mountain. I love watching it. Warm greeting from Indonesia 🥰🥰🥰🔥🔥
Absolutely. Completely baffled as to where he finds these spots. I've assumed he knows the landowners.
Wow. So much open land here in the West. I didn’t know it was difficult to find there.
@@eggmammal I thought I was going to sound daft if asking where the heck one can camp and make a fire that feels so remote. And is legal.
Interesting concept. I'd fly a tarp over it for possible rain. It could be just a few inches shorter, I think, yeah? But what a very interesting option for non-backpacking camping.
Wow duck and waffle sounds very very good. Sweet and savory. Thanks for posting this man. Love the tent cot idea.
I really like duck eggs with rice for breakfast, richer than chicken eggs. 😎👍
the space invader looks nice, well thought out (bar the total rainproofing!) hope to see more with it 😊
The duck and waffles seems to be a riff on the fried chicken and waffles we have here in the States.
Look forward to your videos....giving us camping ideas too!😊
I’ve seen Tony over on ABCamping use an off the ground tent a few times. He loves them, but they seem to all suffer with NOT being waterproof. But being off the ground, especially in winter or wet weather seems a great idea.
Bonus: a little glycerin in dish soap and water and you can blow excellent soap bubbles. 😄
That tent looks like such great value! it comes with literally everything you need!
Wow! I love your tent, you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing your awesome adventure. ❤
So amazing my friend, just admire how you set up the tent, am enjoying the way you set up and the cooking wow 👌 👏 😍 amazing my friend, love it thank you for your video
First time watching . Peaceful, calming and informative. Thank you
i actually kinda love this! i like the idea of a tent being off the ground to avoid creepy crawlies. plus, it would be so easy to wrap bug traps around the legs so nothing can climb up the the actual tent. perfect for bug deterrent ^w^
In America we do chicken and waffles....delicious
My first time seeing this channel. Well, that was relaxing and entertaining to watch.
Quite interesting camera angles, content and sights/sounds captured…
I admire this gentleman having fun and being positive along with the work he needed to make this happen.
Also, his testing of various gear is likely helpful to those individuals new and experienced at camping to see what may or may not make sense to purchase. Well done.
Thank u for sharing all ur camping adventures. I love ur channel & appreciate all your videos & what they have to offer. I’m disabled n miss camping & practically live my camping thru your channel & all the products you try out. Luv it & look forward to many more.
My parents were quite brave and took their 6 daughters on vacation "roughing it" in Bridgeport, CA. I was really young and my Dad was really strict. Thank God!!
to be fair i think that tent is a great deal for someone who never went camping, it seems to come with everything you need to get started for a pretty fair price, putting it under a tarp isnt that big a deal cause you might want a tarp anyway. great for going to a camp ground you can park your car at.
Right? Like this is seems perfect for people who are doing super casual camping or actually people with disabilities who can't sleep on the ground.
Love it Andy! Taking us back to schooldays with a little science lesson as well!
I'm looking at this tent and thinking it might well suit me. Looks like an easy set up but more importantly gets me off the floor with minimal fuss. I have mobility issues but don't see why this should stop me camping. Looking at this I think it could work well with a tarp
You are excellent at setting up and breaking down your campsite ⛺️
I actually love that tent! I want one! As a 61 year old solo camper (state parks only) I think this is perfect. But my teepee is awesome too. Super easy set up
Went in the cupboard after this and there was no spam, gutted, you made me want that sandwich so much! I love weird, ebay finds, some of the stuff is so wacky but this actually looks halfway decent, especially for loved ones who are not fans of creepy crawlies. There's even a 2 person model which looks so unstable it's extra awesome 😂
THAT FOOD LOOKS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
BECKY 😊
"went hard at it with the wood" 🤣🤣 The look on your face when you realised what you said haha
Loving the work you do. makes me itch to go camping again.
Keep up the great work
I would love one of those campers as I struggle getting up and down of the ground. Perfect for us older folks.
Here in Aus the rain is not such an issue. But as you said a decent fly or tarp over the top would solve that problem.
Omg. How nice. No muskitos, no jaguars, no anacondas. Thats a save place for camping. Very handy every thing. I do carcamping. Many thanks for sharing. Watching from the tropical rainforest of Suriname 🇸🇷
