I THOUGHT that was Steve on drums but I TOTALLY missed Joe Sample, and now I’m wondering how did I possibly miss that distinct sound.

I could never properly describe the Al Jarreau’s style, but it is such a smooth blend of scat, soul, bossa nova, jazz, and Scotch (as in the drink, not “from Scotland”)… your music lives on, Mr. J

One of the most electrifying versions of the terrific Sergio Mendes original. In 66 or 67 Eartha Kitt introduced the Brasilians as 'a new approach, a new sound' and nearly 30 years later, Jarreau really took this classic into a whole new realm.

Such an economy of notes from Sir Gadd. Totally serves the song, then, BAM. Stretches out and shows what he's made of. And of all the amazing talent in that room, it was Gadd, Mr. Al was looking at at the end. Dang. The perfect storm of insane level talent.
