Indeed. He just keeps pushing the ante on the scat; particularly in the third portion of the song. Sheer brilliance. I’m truly blessed to have heard this. RIP King.
I could never properly describe the Al Jarreau’s style, but it is such a smooth blend of scat, soul, bossa nova, jazz, and Scotch (as in the drink, not “from Scotland”)… your music lives on, Mr. J

One of the most electrifying versions of the terrific Sergio Mendes original. In 66 or 67 Eartha Kitt introduced the Brasilians as 'a new approach, a new sound' and nearly 30 years later, Jarreau really took this classic into a whole new realm.
OMG. Can't believe that I hadn't seen this before now. Al with Joe Sample, Steve Gadd, and the other great musicians have made my day. Have go buy the album, CD.
This popped up in the background while I was away from my PC for a minute or so, and I heard Al Jarreau's voice and recognised Joe Sample on piano. Brilliant!
Fabulous! 👏🏽 I'm so thankful that I was raised on music by Al Jarreau, and many other great artists. I was in middle school during the 80s, and was often made fun of for listening to jazz and other genres, but I didn't care one bit. I'd crank up the cassette player (later CD player) and get into the zone. 🙂
Such an economy of notes from Sir Gadd. Totally serves the song, then, BAM. Stretches out and shows what he's made of. And of all the amazing talent in that room, it was Gadd, Mr. Al was looking at at the end. Dang. The perfect storm of insane level talent.
Pessoal compositor, nunca leram poesias e apuraram a sensibilidade deles?
He was a One Man Orchestra himself. Now singing in Portuguese as well. Wow, Mr. Jarreau, we miss you so much, as there aren´t singers like you nowadays. RIP Mr. Jarreau.
Al Jarreau was one in a million never again will there be another like him Heaven must be having one heck of a jam session with Al singing there i miss you my dear friend and i will love you always for bringing my heart so much jou
Marvelous marvelous muzik arrangements piece. To all the great musicians/ singer! His muzik legacy will still remains. Greetings from Jazzman Kuala Lumpur.
This version is like a "Picasso painting" on a wall. It is so perfect, you don't dare touch it
There is only one Al Jarreau wow
❤️

Steve Gadd on drums. Marcus Miller on bass. Joe Sample on the piano..... Al Jarreau scatting away in pseudo- Portuguese. Wonderful.
I THOUGHT that was Steve on drums but I TOTALLY missed Joe Sample, and now I’m wondering how did I possibly miss that distinct sound.
Really pseudo-Portuguese. I'm brazilian and didn't understand any word kkkkk

Thank you. This ensemble was able to hang with him as he he continued to strategically push the ante on the scat. A true tour de force.

BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE OF THE GENIUS AL JARREAU . LINE UP BAND AWESOME .
I don't think there an artist today that I can liken with Al. He was a class of his own, and I don't think there will be someone like Al. RIP maestro.
He sounds like a professor giving a lecture first. SO INCREDIBLY articulate. Love love the man!💕
The person on the piano in another video is a shoe person. That man gave me the chills!!
Brings a smile to my face every time I hear Al sing!
Maravilhosa mistura.
Absolutely off the scale this is superb. My god what a performance 👏.

This song is a Jorge Ben Jor's composition, actually.
Joe Sample and Steve Gadd: perfect combo
Marcus Miller is happily slapping away on a samba. Just how do you do that. Incredible!
