Whoo, At first I thought this was a "new" video, so I was confused how could there be a problem after all of your precautions.
    Concern evaded. ;-)

Hi James , Found No 2 and surveys are a serious worry for anyone looking to buy a boat cus of the cost. My theory is that the owner selling or agent or boatyard should have the survey done for any potential buyer to study and then whoever buys the boat accepts that cost. The present day system is not helpfull to the boating world. Now looking for No 3. Stay safe (PJ)

Problem with the owner initially paying for the survey is a legal one. The surveyor is responsible to whoever pays them, and if the owner says don't look at such-and-such, maybe he'll follow that instruction. That's why buyers of houses and flats always get their own survey done.

Hey James! I am just about to buy a boat with a similar situation. I am really encouraged by your videos to tackle this myself though! I was wondering if you could possibly list the tools you used to do the floor and roughly how much it all cost you? Would really appreciate it!

Omg! Where did all the water come from? Rain water you said? I hope your right! Good luck with the survey, although you can purchase a thickness tester for about £75! Save all that risking things, I presume the boat was out of the water when you purchased it?
Hope it all goes well, hopefully you'll end up with a great little boat, consider buying some new windows,,and with some rubbing downs and a lick of paint on the outside will look like new.

Simon Cooper Hi Simon. Yes it was rain water, I discovered 4 areas where rain was dripping in when the heavens really opened. Maybe a touch of condensation, but mostly rain !!

Best of luck with the project James.
I do enjoy a narrow boat restoration and refit vlog series. I’ve subscribed and hit the bell. Keep the good work up.

That 12 volt 750 gallons per hour pump ran for how long?

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Bubba Fudpucker not long, about an hour

    • @bubbafudpucker397

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt That's around thirteen 55 gallon drums worth of water. I'm shocked that the interior wasn't harboring mildew and mold.
I can't wait to binge watch your channel and get caught up to the current episode. Thanks for responding.

Bubba Fudpucker Sorry but just because a pump has 750 g/hr on the label doesn’t mean it’s pumping 750 g/hr. That’s the manufacturers figure for the pump running in perfect conditions, the way that pump was running, a sensible guess would be around about 25% or less.www.boatus.com/magazine/2014/december/bilge-pump-capacity.asp

Do you think any of the water that came in to the boat could be rain running down the stairs from the cruiser stern and under the door or through vents? (If memory serves me right Dan from sort of interesting has a similar stern and had this issue).
Loving the vlogs by the way, discoverd them last night and have binge watched today before restarting work tomorrow.

      Hi Jackie
Great to have you on board. Possibly some may have come in from doors but the boat sweats so much its most likely that and the rain water. Thanks
