Just got my first 10 quails. 6 males and 4 females at 3 weeks old. Your videos are the best I've seen so far. So through and you keep everything simple. Thanks for the info!!!
Chris - just wanted to say I appreciate your videos so much. Great info delivered in a way that a beginner can understand. Just got my first 5 birds and you're my go-to for info. I was just wondering, "wonder if I can overfeed them". Turns out you have a video for that too and now I know the answer is no. Thanks. You earned my subscription.
I have been raising quail for a year and I have to say it’s a good investment for your mind . I feel happy feeding them every day before going to school
Chris, I love your quail videos, BUT I live in SW Missouri and I can't locate feed for anywhere near $15 for a 50# bag (more like $50). What and where are you buying at that price?
Chewy is cheaper than that and free shipping at 49 dollars. Chewy is more than Rural King and Tractor Supply here. Probably up to low 20s now. Haven't been to those stores in awhile.
Hey Chris kind of related but I had a question I have new quail that went outside a couple weeks ago in a hutch I built like yours the weather is really bad and windy I know they will be OK but my question is how do you deal with bringing water and food out couple times A-day when it's below freezing and extremely windy do you just tough it out or is there a good way? How long can they go on dry?
I'm loving my quail I was Gifted about 40 of them because a good friend was downsizing for winter We tried some for Thanksgiving Much love xoxox thanks for the information We are raising Serama chickens too they are ruffly the same size As chicks the quail grow quicker I'm hopping I have better luck with getting the Serama to sit on the quail eggs The hatching time is ruffly the same but the quail Shells need to have a balanced not too strong but strong enough to be under a hen even tiny one
I just need to check on them once a day and around 30 birds. Clean poop trays twice a week. Finally getting a pitchfork for poop in compost pile and chicken boots.as I've stepped in it with good shoes. Ick.
Hey Chris, you made me do math. LOL. I love it. Your cage at 8 ft X 3 ft. Gives you 24 sq. ft. If they are jumbo, you can easily put 72 birds in there at 3 per sq ft. That is great. That many birds would feed you and your wife, as well as the dog in meat for a bit. Not counting the eggs.
Natural forage wouldn't naturally give quail assess to that amount of food purely because its less assessable so what amount would you suggest is the bare minimum per day?? I do not intend to give my birds the bare minimum I have just targeted my question in such a manner to get an idea of scale more to least...id appreciate any advice you can offer based on your experience...
Probably because it's easier to use just one type of food. This certainly isn't the way to get good quality meat. In nature, these birds have a much more diverse diet, but it takes a little bit more work to provide this for captive birds.
Wow! $15?!? Where do you get your feed? because, it's WAY higher @ the TSC in Katy, Tx. AND, it's only a 40# bag of turkey/gamebird starter. :( It's looking like these free Bob White eggs are going to be expensive birds to eat! LOL!
It has gone up recently but I can still get it for $17 a bag. I get it from a local feed store that mills their own food. MFA Aggriservices in Neosho, MO.
@@Slightlyrednecked You're very fortunate. Hey, how did you cut the holes in those plastic containers for the feed? Do you have a video for that? I sure appreciate your advice. I know Nothing about quail and hatching those Bob Whites has been quite a crash course in animal husbandry! I hatched 85/91 fertile eggs. Thanks again! :D

Thanks a lot Chris! I like using square shaped drink bottles, which work perfectly. They waste hardly anything!

Go into the nature and forage grasses and grains by yourself, and cost will be much lower

I live in a country where I do not have access to commercial quial food. How do I make my own? I just received a batch of quails that need to be fed!!

3 per sqft is amazing if you want to make these birds to have a miserable life

I know he said he feeds only starter feed. Any reason for this? I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Do they quail need grit mixed in with their food like chickens do?
