    MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

Just finished watching the MLF Conroe derby live streamed. Was surprised the grass was back. (Mostly Caney). They limited ffs use to 1 of 3 periods. When “traditional fishing” (no ffs periods) most seemed to fish lipless and bladed jigs in the grass. I didn’t see anybody using the Hybrid Hunter. So, I like to hear your comments on anything and everything about the derby that you’d like to share. The last few minutes were very exciting. Keep the videos coming, lately they’ve been really good.

Todd, I understand why you use your setup for the HH. I live in the mid-west and we do not have fish as big as you do in Texas. If you were in the mid-west would you use the same set up for the HH? I have success on it without using the big stick like you do. Please advise.

It’s not a big stick it’s just not a crankbait rod. It’s medium heavy which to me bends a lot but can still boat flip a five pounder. It’s why it’s 7’6, a monger rod had more play and can do more.

I fish mostly rivers, lot of cypress trees and cypress stumps, would the hybrid hunter work good for this. I use a 6 9 med.hvy. 20 pound line. Great information. Thanks.

let me check but if you click on the link all you have to do is put in 7'6 medium heavy it's the only one that will pop up in the super duty series.
I'm not by my rods at the moment.

You should just design a “hybrid hunter” rod series to put out

I think he mentioned a long time ago in a prev vid he was interested in designing one, but realized Lew’s already had the perfect one for it mentioned in this video and several others.

Would you use a crank bait rod if you were fishing it in open water?

Todd is 100% correct in the direction he’s going with why the numbers are down. The young players have parents money. They’ve never had to work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. Most of them come with the best equipment money can buy. Most have very little professionalism/respect for their peers. They’ve never been taught by the Tommy Biffle’s or the Denny Brauer’s on Fishing etiquette. Most are very entitled and let you know they don’t give a damn about you or what you’ve found. I’ve had so many come in on me , MF me for being there. Especially on Rayburn. They can catchem, and they can compete, but once the older competitors get fed up with the BS, good luck getting it back.

Well said, you might not like what he said, but sometimes the truth is what it is.

Also, you can't rule out that people are getting fed up with ffs. Wheather you guys want to keep ignoring that or denying it. So many people around here in Missouri have quit fishing tournaments just because of the ffs in tournaments. Also, the older guys not fishing are the guys sacrificing their time on the water for their kids' time on the water. Father's in our generation are taking a backseat to let their kids fish tournaments. Thus, you see more kids with new (er) boats and gear. It's still their daddy's boat and money. Honestly, these kids are spoiled little sh***, too, and have zero respect and common sense when it comes to fishing etiquette.

I totally believe that the number 1 reason numbers are down is FFS. Cant control what people think and if they don’t like it, they don’t like it

Once a guy catches one on that rod, they’ll understand. Fish hit the HH with purpose and in full stride leaving no question they wanted it. It doesn’t feel right catching one on a HH using a regular ole cranking rod. Gotta have that back bone. Shallow water, big bait, big fish potential, you need the right equipment. Think.
