"He's the doctor and he can do stuff with his phone" 😂
@@greghawkins59 a quote for the ages!
Good video as always chief. Really seems like 73 Yards specifically is the marmite episode, everyone either loves it or hates it - I think that’s because it definitely explores some really interesting ideas but the jury’s out on whether it sticks the landing with them. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if people’s opinions on this season evolve in the years to come
@@monochromeboi267 Thank you! And yeah, it’ll be interesting to see opinions change as time goes on
2:28 “But they kind of bugger it with the man-bashing at the end, bit harsh” The way I look at that scene is to imagine Russell staring down the insufferable ‘RTD’s gonna save us from the woke!’ crowd, getting right up in their faces, looking them dead in the eyes, and spitting on them. It was over the top and cringe, sure, but an entertaining way for him to tell those people in no uncertain terms that he is their enemy. So it got a cheer out of me even despite being kind of holier-than-thou when viewed in a vacuum.
That's an interesting read of it. I think it's certainly the case, but it could've been handled a little better because I don't hate the way they resolve the metacrisis it's just the wording I guess. Ho hum!
DOT AND BUBBLE is actually peak, bring back the slug boisss!!!
@@Wilson.647.whovian 💙💙THE SLUGS💙💙
I so wish the slugs had eaten Lindy.
My ranking would be
S- The Giggle, The Devil’s Chord, 73 Yards, The Church on Ruby Road
Between A and S- The Star Beast, Boom, Legend of Ruby Sunday
A- Wild Blue Yonder, Space Babies
Between B and A- Rogue, Empire of Death
B- Dot and Bubble
Very entertaining video and good explanation of why each episode goes into that tier
Thanks for the ranking, and glad you enjoyed the vid :)
12 - Space Babies
11 - Rogue
10 - The Empire of Death
9 - The leyend of Ruby Sunday
8 - The Start Beast
7 - 73 Yards
6 - The Church on Ruby Road
5 - The Giggle
4 - Dot and Bubble
3 - Boom
2 - The Devil's Chord
1 - Wild Blue Yonder
Extra Comments:
- Although it is a bit different my ranking, I almost think the same as you and I might agree with your ranking.
- In your raking I would just move Dot and Bubble to A. Everything in the beginning felt a bit slow and even stupid, I feel that the episode is valued more for the second half of the episode.
- I would just move Dot and Bubble to B. I feel this story could have been better developed in two parts. I feel like everything that wasn't the Doctor and Rogue's love story didn't matter, randoms villains with a random plan. Ruby was left over in the story. I find it strange that the Doctor would fall in love so quickly with Rogue (He almost wanted to marry him and even have children in the same episode). Predictable ending.
- 73 Yards, overrated. I don't think it's bad, but I think it does let you down when you finish watching it. And even if you watch it more times, I feel it's not the same emotion as the first time you watched it since you're not going to find anything at the end. Even though I have already read explanations about the episode, I am not convinced.
- Wild Blue Yonder is perfect
- The Devil's Chord, For me it was the best episode of season 1, I liked it because it was one of the episodes where there was a little more action than the other episodes, the villain was excellent, I liked the costumes of the Doctor and Ruby, The Doctor had more presence compared to other episodes, entertaining from start to finish. I know there are people who hate it and understanding some arguments and in some I could agree.
- Overall, I think this season was good and had a lot of light episodes, I don't think any of them are the worst we've seen, but not the best either.
In my third point, it's about the Rogue episode, sorry

*S-Tier*
Wild Blue Yonder | _All time great episode_
*A-Tier*
Rogue | _Great classic fun. Could have been S, if the ending didn't confuse me so much. If the field traps you, why could Rogue push off Ruby?_
The Church on Ruby Road | _I basically loved everything about it. Ruby improvising a song in front of a Goblin, that just almost ate a baby did take me out of it a bit_
Boom | _All around amazing, with a meh ending_
The Star Beast | _All around great fun, with a meh ending_
The Giggle | _Really liked it, but the climax was a bit anticlimactic. This one benefits a lot from what happened outside of the threat of the week_
*B-Tier*
73 Yards | _Great on paper, but couldn't really connect to Ruby that well at this point in the season. Still good though_
Space Babies | _A pretty fun episode, just nothing amazing_
The Legend of Ruby Sunday | _Loved everything until the reveal, was let down by it a little_
Empire of Death | _Inadvertantly read Spoilers before watching, propably lead to me being able to enjoy the ride a lot more than people who watched blind. The dramatic sign pointing might be the most hilarious thing I've seen on Doctor Who_
*C-Tier*
The Devil's Chord | _Though I loved how Maestro was played, the episode just didn't work for me_
*F-Tier*
Dot & Bubble | _Hated the first 40 minutes, kind of liked the ending, but that couldn't salvage it for me_

Oh epic, I just finished your ranking of series 1 to flux and and now this banger comes out the next day. It's very obvious you've grown up on Doctor who just with the natural flamboyancy of how you present yourself, it's very don't give a damn and very doctory.

Great video and I completely agree with your choices in the S tier. Would you ever consider ranking the classic era? Obviously not the whole thing in one video (because you’d need at least 2 more tables) but maybe one Doctor at a time?

The star beast - decent episode, butchered ending
Wild blue yonder - decent spooky romp
The giggle - waste of a great villain, also unit cringe
The church on ruby road - FoB titled decent episode, love the rage filled goblin impalement
Space babies - naff, should have stayed with the dinosaurs
Devil's chord - another wasted villain, should have spent more time with the Beatles (what was with that depressing canteen chat?)
Boom - cool but so very moffaty
73 yards - loved it but had to grow on me, welsh people are evil
Dot and bubble - surprisingly amazing, genuine shocking moments
Rogue - bit too much drama for a fun romp, Doc's never gonna try looking for him
The legend of ruby Sunday - tedious set up with a couple good moments, unit cringe 2: child exploitation
Empire of death: kinda cool but a total waste of another amazing villain, v predictable, doesn't work at all

Stephen Moffat has better Christmas specials than RTD in my opinion. Even his weakest ones are about same level as RTDs and his best one are peak!
@@CulturePhilter hard disagree gotta say, RTD was consistently good with his Chrimbo, none were bad IMO. Moffat had some great ones but also some real hot garbage 😄
@@DoctorWhoReeves ok, maybe Moffat is more mixed (he did write The Doctor , the widow and the wardrobe after all) . But nothing RTD did even comes close to A Christmas Carol, Last Christmas or The Husbands of River Song.

@@DjangoCaron I’ve always been tempted to rank some classic stuff, but I have ALOT of gaps in knowledge 😄 Thanks for the ranking! (Appreciate the “floor” bit!)
So far, RTD's return has felt like he's doing an impression of chibnall. There's plenty cool ideas but it's had sutekh's gift of shit writing dusted over it😂
The writing was so horrible this season. Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson deserved better scripts. They got the same treatment as 13th. Poor portrayals with little character growth that ISNT erased from existence by the end of the story.
No POC as the writers and No POC historicals to shed light on overlooked history. We get farting babies, a falsely advertized episode where the Beatles are barely in it, the only good episode cause Moffat wrote it, character developmemt until we reset the episode so it's not canon now, white man teaches the world about how Gen Z is racist and deserves to all die, a forgettable filler historical episode, and a two parter that has a twist that only works because RTD lied to the audience. I pray to god Ncuti Gatwa gets work on Big Finish. RTD sabotaged this season with his own ego overshadowing the actors' efforts to try and make these shit scripts work.
I'm really surprised with your placement of "Wild Blue Yonder". It was a literal filler episode AS A SPECIAL?! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's decent and entertaining, but an entire whole filler episode, just for the salt at the end of the universe bit? I'd have eye-rolled as an episode, but as a special I am very disappointed.
I agree that Gatwa is fantastic, but they still haven't written for his capabilities. There are so many moments throughout the series where you can feel that he has a lot more range to take something, but it's just not written for it. Such a letdown.
And with Devil's Chord, it really does feel as if it was written for later in the series, with the cold open to have been a tease ending of another episode... But that Disney was probably like, "We need a big bad at the beginning of the series! We also need to Susan Speech as soon as possible for the new audience!" It easily would fit between 73 Yards and Dot & Bubble. And being later would easily set up where the whole "best friends" thing in the finale would have felt a little more real. Rogue really should have been a two-parter.
There’s one reason I don’t like Season 1/Series 14: Cherry Sunday never got her tea! She’s been waiting since Christmas!!!
