  • Elon Musk Predicts “None of Us Will Have a Job” If AI Takes Over | Firstpost America
Elon Musk shared a dystopian vision of what a future under artificial intelligence would look like. Addressing a conference, the tech billionaire said, “In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job.” But he added that for it to thrive there will be a need for universal high-income, however, he stopped short of explaining how that could be achieved. However, he did not exactly paint a rosy picture of no job and more money. He rather put forward the existential threats posed by artificial intelligence. He questioned whether a job-free future would make people feel emotionally fulfilled and if our lives would still retain their meaning.

How about an AI Dividend for all? Since everyone's data goes into training AI, which then out competes them for traditional jobs, we need to find a way to distribute the wealth gains from these technologies, which everyone's data helped create, back to everyone. Musk called it a UHI, or Unconditional High Income. Kinda like a UBI, but why keep it basic in a future of continuously improving AI?

"if our lives will still have their meaning"
Im a young man, 25 here. And I really have been listening to what people are talking about life.
    ... And if someone attaches their life's meaning to 9-5 job its either;
    - A politician / rich guy - that does want to keep the old ways going, not sure why, maybe its the "right thing to do" or he is afraid of loosing meaning of his high status if everyone would have more $$
    - its a person who can even struggle in life financially on wag-slavery - but because he doesn't get the good life he wont agree to make any step towards better future for people. And his favorite quote is " Should've work harder you lazy ass "
    - Neutral class guy - Some of these people can be truly passionate about life and understand general struggles, but still lots of them are feeling comfortable enough to think that if he made it, it has to be "our" fault that we dont have a good life x))) whatever good life means in his silly head.
There is hope, there is also insanely big amount of knowledge, and meaning yet to be discovered in life. - Our society is really, but really the opposite of what it truly means to be alive.
But we have to start asking right questions; What will we do, what makes us happy, how do each and every person would like to continue their personal growth in society without jobs.
I find myself just a little lucky, because even I am very poor wage-slave person, I feel and know truly what my path to happiness is. I know what I would love to focus on, what to do, where to began. - its something I think everyone can learn, but it starts outside of the weird job-life cycle we created so far.
Have a nice and wonderful life my beings. Lets hope we will get the future right, as we are smart enough to do it, we just need to want it as ALL.
    P. S.
For clever folks that would want to disagree on my view, and why Im 25 in wage class. I have ADHD and slight AS - and in this society we live in there is no hope for people like me. (most of the time ) - IF we even get diagnosed, no pills, no therapy can make your life fixed or the demage we've taken during our lifes. Once it get too far we are left behind on our own.
    Peace.

No, AI cannot take away our job. AI is super good if there are enough data to train them. Examples include auto-driving and chatbot. But, in many settings there isn't a lot of data. Let's say you would like an AI to make a business proposal for your company. Can AI tailor make a business proposal that satisfies your boss completely? No, I don't think so. The AI hasn't been trained with enough data from this specific company. Therefore, what AI will do in the future is to generate a general business proposal, and it is human's task to tailor make it for your company. So, AI will leverage the GDP of human society, but not take away our jobs.

If you look at panel prices (less than 0.15 USD/w) battery price (less than 80 usd/kWh, total equipment for 10 kw installation less than 5000 USD. Receipts available) and the amount of subsidies, tax brakes and grid upgrades governments give to big companies to provide energy to homes at an ever increasing prices and compare it with how much it will cost governments to provide 100% financing for all required renewable energy equipment , so that families will have all energy required at zero cost forever , then you will find that the second option (financing the families) is much cheaper and it gives not only abundance but also freedom to the individual person. This option requires no talk of UBI, which is promoted, because every family will be able to have everything it requires including manufacturing capabilities . This distributed energy enhances the country's security (see drone hits in Russia) and doesn't require grid upgrades.
There are forecasts that AI will take all jobs away from humans. The antidote to this is to provide homes with energy (as described above) and allow families to live in abundance and freedom. No UBI necessary.
    😅

One possible solution is a basic income system. This concept involves giving everyone a regular, unconditional sum of money regardless of employment status. A basic income could provide financial security and ensure that people have the means to purchase essential goods and services. This model has been tested in various places and has shown promise in reducing poverty and boosting local economies.
Another approach is profit-sharing models. In this system, companies share a portion of their profits with employees or even customers. This method aligns the interests of the business with those of its stakeholders, creating a sense of shared success. Profit-sharing can help distribute wealth more evenly and ensure that as companies grow, so do the financial benefits for the broader community.

@@momomama2510 Actually I work with AI and understand it better than the common Joe. AI will give society a boost in productivity, just like the internet or like electricity did. Not more, not less, about the same level... ;)

@@TheEmperor000 I use AI for work too and I know it will 100% replace millions of jobs and not give any alternative. The industrial age gave people alternatives.
The necessity to have a human watching over AI is just temporary and far less humans will be needed for that role in every industry.

He said no one will be driving a car 7 years ago when he started his car company 15 years ago. I think what he meant by it is that 70 years from now, no one will have a job. Not 5 nor 10.

Yes, yeah we will feel fulfilled because the next and final endeavor will be to figure out whether or not we can go on living forever. That'll be the next big task on everybody's late. We find a way to live forever well then we might actually face an existential crisis. But don't waste an existential crisis on something stupid, futile and just all out. Evil as money; as money. Get it right AI.

🚀Elon Musk’s prediction raises some important questions about the future of work in an AI-dominated world. While the idea of widespread job displacement is concerning, it also opens the door to discussions on how we can adapt to these changes. Investing in education, reskilling, and exploring new economic models could help mitigate potential challenges. It's crucial for policymakers, businesses, and individuals to collaborate in shaping a future where AI benefits society as a whole. 🎯
