    Just to answer your question, it has been a massive misconception since the 70s that the Afrika Korps wore brown pouches. Absolutely most of their leather kit was Black and in some rare cases some bits of leather were not brown but just plain and not dyed. Even in some black and white original pictures you can tell it’s black, also in true recolorisations you can see it’s black. But if you look, a lot of drawn modern illustrations show it to be brown, but in fact it’s not.

      I'm pretty sure that Luftwaffe units - with the exception of their Fallschirmjager and infantry formations - were issued brown leather in all theatres.

      Luftwaffe had brown ammo pouches in 1930s but they dyed them black after the war started but only on the outside of ammo pouches as proof of this is captured ammo pouches found in Russia in the early 1990s

    my mind is blown ha ha Always greatly enjoy your videos old mate and in awe of your collection, outstanding, but I have to think that Afrika Korp set up has to be the jewel in the crown, at least one of a few jewels anyway, brilliant, cheers

    Another great video m8, i really liked the Afrika Korps set up, very nice. I dont know anything about the uniforms the germans wore in Africa. I do know that the mk2 helmet is south african, ive got a green painted one. The holes were put in at the design stage so that the troops could attach a neck or sunflap. I have a video on my channrl about this, there is no evidence that flaps were issued....but its still an easy way to tell a South African mk2 style helmet....cheers 😊😊😊😊

    Nice diy work on the mannequin. Yanks mannequins (may have a Euro outlet with a diff name) sells decent, smaller figures for a reasonable price.
    As far as brown leather used by LW and DAK, I believe for Luftwaffe personnel that was emitted around 1940 for black leather. For Inter-war parade and dress uniforms of the LW you may see brown leather. By 1943 a similar result could've been used with DAK. I believe most DAK reenactors who study photographic evidence use black pouches. Wooden cased canteens used by DAK I believe is mainly a "collectorism", with not a lot of supporting evidence they were used in Africa. They were instead seen in Southern Europe and regions of the Soviet Union. The bread bag is also worn on the other side of the belt. The cap certainly looks original with that sun bleaching, but have no idea

    the water bottle is a common misconception, they just used standard water bottles, these "coconut" ones were just used on the continent as normal bottles as a way to save materials

    American here. I've always thought the British had - from the perspective of function/utility - the best uniforms of WW2. They also managed to look pretty sharp too. American uniforms were probably the best in terms of the quality of manufacture, and color fastness. American uniforms improved significantly after 1943, but I've always thought the British got it right from the start. The only flaw in British kit was the load-bearing equipment. Those enormous pouches on the front were definitely a bad idea.

      @@militarymad2840 The Germans like the British desert kit too. All those photos of Germans running around in shorts in the desert are captured British issue. From various writings at the time, the Germans loved their British shorts.

      EBay can be expensive but if you keep looking sometimes bargains come up but the best place to look are Militaria fairs I have picked up some good items there one of the best is Malvern in Worcestershire it’s one of the biggest in the country on twice a year and Penkridge in Staffordshire on four times a year but any local small fairs are well worth a look if you go on line and search there will be one on every weekend somewhere or other so good luck

    Nice vid but....you've destroyed a kriegsmarine gasmask case in it's original colours....kriegsmarine cases were often over painted grey over early ordnance tan...that's prob the origin of the grey over paint.

    • @militarymad2840
      @militarymad2840  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Swings and roundabouts I may have lost a kriegsmarine that I didn’t need but looking at the sand colour on the actual gas mask that matches the colour of the tin I would think I have gained a tropical one that I did need, if the tin was just painted ordnance sand colour would they have painted the mask in the exact same colour ??

    very nice german setup! but these german canteens where not used in africa and actualy really comon on the eastern front, the whole gasmask set set is ww2 but repainted tan postwar by the dutch, these canisters almost always have tan paint with gray on top, its a myth made up by dealers that those canteens and gasmasks where "afrika korps" so they would sel easyer, for the rest an awsome display
