I really like the way you taught the game and I'm glad you didn't use a script. It was more organic like the way I'm used to learning from people. Great job!! Subscribed
Nice instructional! That must be a pretty big table! Our team has been playing Star Wars: Rebellion, too, and we had to have an entire side table to hold components for our video.
***constructive criticism*** I really think you needed a bit more of a scripted approach here. Not lines per se, but a rough outline of how you were going to explain the game. It's very muddled, and in the first 20 minutes particularly you get continually side track and essentially just shown all the components and what they do. I already a good grasp of the rules so wasn't lost, but I could imagine someone unfamiliar being completely lost half way through this vid. I mean you don't even talk about mission or the round structure until the half way point or further. I think it's always good to explain games from 'broad to specific' - think of it as an inverted triangle. "Who are we?" "How do we win?" "What does the game/round/turn structure look like?" "How does my turn work?" Etc etc. ***i really hope you don't read this as a hater/troll*** Your channel is great - I'm a subscriber - and you've done a ton to help the community.
+bassboyjon Not at all man I do view it as constructive. Truth be told I had a very limited amount of time to do this video and absolutely rushed it. I would have liked very much to do a more professional approach, just didn't have the time this time.
+Crabbok OK. That's a relief! I totally get that. Obviously scripting/a more structured approach takes more time and effort and probably results in more video editing. The benefit of the 'single take, do it on the fly' approach is that you can get vids out real fast. Which I suppose is what you're known for. A new product comes out and you're almost always the first with an unboxing or whatever. So maybe that's your niche? Plus this vid is probably still very useful to people, because it's the first of its kind out there at the moment. The most over produced vid may well be 'better' but if it comes in a months time, then people are still left scratching their heads in the meantime.
At around 23 minutes keep in mind that the x-wing stops 2 things from happening in that system. 1. The player controlling that system cannot deploy troops there and, 2. The player controlling that system is unable to build anything from that system during the build phase. In this way it is possible to stop your opponent to build some units at the refresh fase.
Echo what bassboyjon said. A little scripting and artificial stacking of the deck would have made it less jarring and focussed. There were a couple of points where I felt totally lost because of the flipping between subjects. Also the constant camera knocking was very distracting. Otherwise cheers for the run through! Can't wait to play this.
I finally made it through a game tonight. I think the only thing you could possibly expand a bit on would be the order of the actions for combat. I interpreted the order as: Ships roll - Ships assign damage - Play Tactic cards - Resolve and remove units where necessary. Then on to the Ground Units in the same order. Then retreat option. Then repeat if necessary. Do the tactic cards come in to play after one side has done their rolling and the damage has been assigned or is it mutual after the damage has been assigned on both sides? Do you need to lay out all the tactic cards at once or is it a back and forth between the sides?
I wish FFG would stop using those tiny cards. Also, since you can only recruit four times and you get a random guy each time, is it possible for the rebels to play a game without getting Luke?
Ok, got the game and am checking it out. It appears that there are 12 different recruit action cards and Luke is on two of those. You'll draw 8 cards over the course of the game so your getting 75% of all the cards. I believe that this makes the odds of not getting Luke at around 6%, or 1 game in 8.
I had a question, can you build units from your Rebel base say if I had Utapau as my base. could I build a Corellian corvette and a Mon Calamari Cruiser?
just reread the rules after you talked about combat, and I'm certain it's the attacking player who assigns where damage goes, not the defending player. the defending player can only negate damage with the tactic cards.
+championofgods I'm pretty sure you are right. After re-reading the rules on activation it clearly says you can put your leader anywhere, and the only limitation is that you cannot move troops OUT of a system containing a leader. I'm not sure why I got that part wrong. Somewhere there's a rule that confused me. I'll make an anotation during the video. Thanks!
+Crabbok By the way, how do you find the balance in the game? Me and a friend played it a couple of times and no matter whose side we play, the Empire seems to win everytime with ease.
You can assign a leader to systems that already have a leader in place (ie, you assigned a leader earlier via a mission or command or opposition). Last night we played a round that ended up having about 5 leaders each in one system. In this way you can attack multiple times. (a previous attack didn't quite wipe out the enemy so you bring in more troops from an adjacent system to finish them off). You only draw space/ground tactic cards equal to the leader with the highest value BUT! for completing mission you can use multiple leaders in a system from previous assignments/commands/oppositions to roll a quantity of dice equal to ALL of your leaders present in the system (not just the one or two you assigned to the mission). But yeah, no moving your troops out of the system regardless if you have one or more leaders in it 😀
I think you said objective cards count as part of your ten in hand but from what I have read it is only mission cards that count in your ten. Anyone know for sure?
The best Star Wars: Rebellion tutorial.
Thank you very much for this. Me and my son tried to play but it seemed so complicated. You have made it easier for us to play.
I really like the way you taught the game and I'm glad you didn't use a script. It was more organic like the way I'm used to learning from people. Great job!! Subscribed
Excellently done, especially in a single shot!
Thanks for doing this video. Helped me understand a lot. I think I missed how the recruit phase works.
Nice instructional! That must be a pretty big table! Our team has been playing Star Wars: Rebellion, too, and we had to have an entire side table to hold components for our video.
Love your vid it's nice listening to a Star Wars fan love your vids keep its up

+bassboyjon thanks! This is also kinda how I teach people irl. Kinda all over the place, only I pause for questions occasionally.
excellent post
Thanks dude, this helped me get a good understanding of the game.
Can you do a tutorial using the Rise of the Empire expansion? There are some confusing changes with that expansion. Great video on the core game!

Great review. Just got the game, really excited to play it

star wars rebellion or twilight imperium 3 ? discuss
Is there a way to push back the rebel marker on the time track..? There's a total of 16 possible phases and the rebel marker starts on 14...?
I wish FFG would stop using those tiny cards.
Also, since you can only recruit four times and you get a random guy each time, is it possible for the rebels to play a game without getting Luke?
Yup. My first game had no Luke
+Crabbok Same here. Disappointingly so.

+Hedgehobbit He was the #1 and #3 cards in the deck *after* my last draw. Bad odds, but I missed him, nonetheless.
+Hedgehobbit It's possible, but I heard that Leia can get training on Dagobah in place of her brother.
I had a question, can you build units from your Rebel base say if I had Utapau as my base. could I build a Corellian corvette and a Mon Calamari Cruiser?
Robert Reid you need loyalty in Utupauh to use its resources.

the defending player can only negate damage with the tactic cards.
+niederman You are correct. As someone else pointed out in another comment, I was mistaken during the video and added an annotation to correct it.
Nice video, but I am pretty sure that Leaders in a system only prevent you from moving troops from that system, not into the system. Could be wrong.
+championofgods I'm pretty sure you are right. Empire can certainly get lucky. I think it's balanced. The Rebel player HAS to try and get those objectives as much as possible

plz hit the mic stand one more time:P
Cards go back into your hand if you don't use them
I think you said objective cards count as part of your ten in hand but from what I have read it is only mission cards that count in your ten. Anyone know for sure?
+Josh Roberts I believe you are correct. I don't have the rules near me at the moment to verify though. (In the hospital atm)
+Crabbok hope everything is ok
Ouch $100.00 I might have to wait on this one. Perhaps right before the expansion comes out.
+Maldus Alver A lot of retailers do sell it for a bit of a discount if you look around. I got my copy from Amazon for $75, for instance.
Gawd stop bumping into things. Its so distracting and shakes everything around.
