The gameplay on the Portal is much smoother than what is shown is this video, if anyone else was wondering. The video seems to be recorded at 24fps instead of 60fps, which makes it look choppy. That being said, Astro Bot is a joy to play. Definitely one of the best games I've played this year (including Zenless Zone Zero) and solid contender for game of the year
I don't know if it could work on a steam deck with the game taking advantage of specific dualsense features like adaptive triggers and gyro. I know the steam deck has gyro but not all devices do so if they did release on steam, it would need some updates to game mechanics to work on a wider range of devices.
@@niftythrone2115 definitely. it would have to take a lot of in-game adjustments and calibrations to work on non-ps5 devices, but i think it's possible

I played a bunch of this game on my portal and I agree! It makes it worth owning a portal cuz it uses all the features of it! This game is phenomenal and while my GOTY is Rebirth, this one is definitely one of the best games on PS5!!
I love this game. I kept my PS5 specifically for this game. If there were more titles like this I would not even consider selling my PS5 but I see the writing on the wall and I am moving to exclusively PC after I complete this game
I considered getting a PS Portal, but then I dabbled with the Chromecast client, which sucked. What seems to work is using Remote Play on an iPad, paired with a PS controller. I played through Ragnarok and AC Mirage that way.
Astro Bots premiered in 2013 in the Playroom and Playroom VR on PS4. Part of the team made Ape Escape in 1999. They also worked on Gravity Rush, Puppeteer, Knack - many platform games across many PS generations. Astro Bot (2024) is really a sequel to 2018 Astro Bot Rescue Mission - best VR platformer. All music, mechanic, level style designs and most enemies and bosses are actually from that game. What is different in 2024 are that you rescue PS cameos instead of just normal bots and that some levels are Astro’s versions of famous PS games. I loved Odyssey, but to me Astro is better. I hope Nintendo will release Odyssey 2 with Switch 2.
I don't agree with this because when you try to use the touch pad actions on the portal it's hard to get it to work if it wasn't for that it would be perfect for handheld
I use remote play on my iPad paired with a DuelSense controller, I’m getting the same experience you are with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Plus I have an advantage of a larger screen. It’s great for when I want to play Astro Bot in the bathroom.

It plays games, you hold it in your hand. Its a handheld. Maybe a bit of a not so useful one but its a handheld nonetheless and its sale numbers have inspired sony to make an actual portable console, so be grateful.
I feel like "overpriced" thing is just being blown out of proportion. Its 200$. You're getting both an 80$ controller and an 8" 1080p 60hz touchscreen which is around 70$. Still 50$ more but keep in mind that the PS5s themselves are sold at a loss.
Portal is amazing! I’ve put 4TB in my PS5, wired/Ethernet it in U.K. and was playing via Portal many games, completed God of War while travelling across Europe 💪🏻😏
U should get a s t eam deck. The portal is just portable inside the house meaning remote play. Basically, ps vita without it being an independent system
Steam deck can remote play from PS5, at the cost of the dualsense features which is a bit of a big thing for the game. I'd say get it but if you really want the full immersion get a portal.
Because it's not made for you. Dont cry about a product that you have zero requirement to buy. A lot of people liked the portal and its sucess is making sony consider a new psp. Be grateful for it even if you personally don't want to get it.

I got motion sickness playing the monkey suit stage where you had to climb using the motion controls in Astro’s Playroom on the Portal.

There is not a single move in Astro bots that require to use touch pad.

Played 80% of Astro Bot on my portal and you’re 100% correct. Perfect for the Dadstation Portal
It’s good on portal, but still better to play on a big TV and separated audio from controller - even bigger immersion.
Sony sponsored guys.

Super Mario Odyssey style. I'm sure people played it that way too.

It's entirely situational, depending on how someone prefers to play an iPad with DS5 may be better but for someone else the portal is more viable.

Calling the portal a handheld is like calling a calculator a computer
