Just purchased my Z6ii in December'2023 - it is great camera for me so far. The main reason I purchased this was for the ability to use Snapbridge and geo-tagging which my D610 didn't have.
I still use my Z6 for professional work and it holds up great. There isn’t anything that I haven’t done on it. Events, portraits, sports, nightlife, video, b-roll, movie poster printing you name it. I know all its shortcomings and how to counter them. AF sucks if you don’t know how to handle it but I don’t care. I know that when it’s time to deliver I can be proud with the results and the image quality is amazing.
Yes, the image quality. I photographed the Sierra mountains in Lone Pine California, including Mount Whitney, and the mountains have this 3d look to them. I was stunned, but the Nikon Z 50mm f1.8 had something to do with it too. These shots were handheld like a snapshot, but you’d think I spent all day composing on a tripod.
As a d700 user xD , im afraid to take one z6 cose Maybe no worth the money today. Would be for street photo and travels , and portraits almost. What do you think? 😅
The Nikon Z6 II is the only camera I use now. As an amateur, it fills all the niches for me and although there are newer versions like the Z7,8.9 etc. this little baby always performs.👍
Just bought a used Z6 around November last year. A huge upgrade from my much older Nikon D5200. Really needed something with better low light and video capability. It came with the FTZ adapter, so I get to use my AF-S 70 - 300 f4.5-5.6 and a 50mm f1.8. The full frame sensor is great for live band work and totally out-classes the D5200...as you'd expect! It just feels more "professional" too and has inspired me to up my game behind the camera. Well worthwhile in 2024!
Hiya, Brilliant video thanks! One question; how good is the tracking/continuous AF for fast moving erratic subjects, can it keep up with the action? ... specifically kids & dogs running around crazy by the way! All the very best
It depends on a few factors: How much light do you have? What lens are you using? (Longer focal lengths focus slower) What exactly will you be shooting?
Thank you for the great review! I currently have Nikon D5100 and I'm due for an upgrade! Will be travelling this year and was thinking of buying the Nikon Z6 or should I upgrade to an even newer model?
Very much so. I may now also have a Z8 but the Z6 remains my go to for street, travel and low light, hope to get out with it tomorrow if we can have a day without rain for once!
I'd love to give the Z8 a try -- haven't had the time or opportunity yet. I might try the Zfc, we'll see. The Z6 is still my favorite street photography camera to date.

Great review! I bought my Z6 about the same time as you did for a fun camera. I had a Nikon D850 as my work camera for portraits and headshots, but I found out that I began taking my Z6 to some shoots for ease of use and the fantastic photos I would get. I ended up trading my D850 and all my f mount lenses for a Z9 and new Z lenses at the beginning of this year. But like before, other than having Z lenses, I have found I still take my Z6 for some work. It is a fantastic camera!
That's how it's done! Thanks, cuz I'm considering a 50mm f1.8g for both stills and video. Excellent value for money, especially when bought used. @@RunNGunPhoto
Thanks for making this video. Just wish it was around about 3 months ago. We recently upgraded to a Z6 after putting off upgrading from a D3400 (that we very quickly outgrew) for years. Already shooting Nikon and having some legacy F-Mount glass made it kind of a no brainer but I still used the A7iii as a benchmark. Honestly, after all the research I had done (and without pushing our budget), we were able to get an excellent condition Z6 body, the kit lens from the Z5 (to get us started on Z glass), and a FTZ adapter for hundreds less than a Z6ii body and nothing else. Our body was just over $800 from MPB and even had the original box and (2) manuals. When I remembered to check shutter actuations I was pleasantly surprised to find out this 5 year old body we purchased had barely over 5000 shots taken on it. 😲 With the firmware updates over the past few years (particularly 3.0 and 3.4), the autofocus and tracking is virtually identical to the Z6ii, in addition to other improvements. Honestly, the only major dealbreaker I could see for people is the single card slot, if say you shoot weddings. I was also disappointed to find out the Z6 doesn’t have the same extended shutter speeds the Z6ii has, but I only see that being a dealbreaker if you’re planning on shooting astrophotography. My wife shoots concert photography semi-professionally, and the Z6’s low light performance and high native ISO range were among some of the biggest deciding factors when my wife sent me into camera purchase research mode. The only regret I have so far was not springing on the 24-70 f/4 S lens and getting the Z5 kit lens instead. It’s fine for entry level, but I already know it’s limitations and wish I thought harder and just spend a few more hundred bucks on the S-series zoom. Nice thing is that lens can be easily had in excellent condition for under $500. In summary: I think the Z6 is the biggest bang for your buck to get into full frame mirrorless (I was surprised to see used Z5 bodies going for hundreds more, when it seems to be not up to par with the Z6 - guess it’s just because it’s newer). In my research, some of it’s features beat out the A7iii, particularly still image quality and color rendition, and aside from the Canon EOS R having 5000+ autofocus points and a LCD that can face forward (that neither Nikon or Sony have in full frame), I don’t find it to be a capable competitor in 2024 versus the Z6 or A7iii (if just comparing first generation full frames).
You're absolutely right, the Z6 is pretty much the most bang for your buck. I shoot concerts as well, and the Z6 is fantastic! Having a few old F-Mount lenses definitely makes it easier to stay with Nikon. I've never been a fan of Sony's color rendition or photos in general...still can't put my finger on why. But I hope you enjoy your Z6 for many years to come! :)
I'm definitely interested in a Z6 and more than likely I'll purchase one but I must admit that for my purposes my D700 still serves me Incredibly well. Cool video! Thanks for uploading.
I'd go with the Z6... If you do video work, there is a 1.7X crop with the Z5, so it's not using the full frame. The Z6 has a few more video features as well. They're pretty similar in photo specs.
Yes, the Nikon Z6 does have a mechanical shutter. According to Imaging Resource: "Performance matched Nikon's specification of 12 frames per second for JPEG and 12-bit NEF files, and 9 frames per second with 14-bit NEF files. "
I actually just got a Z6 as a backup for my Z9. It does what I need it to at a steal of a deal. The AF is no where near the Z9 performance but still works very well in most use cases for portrait work.
I love my Z6. I bought min in March of 2019. It's only shortcoming is subject acquisition and retention. Otherwise it's very fast to focus when it finds a subject.
I bought my Z6 in 2019, and I love it. Considering today against the Z6ll and the competition, it’s still a great value, especially considering how much you can save now buying an excellent condition model used. Except for the most demanding still photo applications (action, sports, wildlife) the Z6 provides plenty of punch for photographers and still performs well for hybrid applications.
I'll say I've done just fine with action, sports and wildlife with my Z6! It's all about how you prepare for the situation. That's why it's one of my favorite camera bodies of all time.
I've had a D750 since it released in 2015 and decided toward the end of last year to get into mirrorless and ended up going with the Zf. The Zf is a great camera, but the big downside for me was that it did not have a port to connect a remote intervalometer, so I couldn't use my Hahnel remote with it. And my D750, which I did a full spectrum mod on for IR and improved night shooting, could not be used with the awesome Sigma 14mm/1.4 among other S lenses I've acquired. Fast forward to the present, I was seriously considering trading in the Zf for the Z6iii, but fortunately the bright idea of simply getting a used Z6 lit up in my mind, which was far more sensible since timelapses and night shooting with Z lenses was the only additional function I needed. It also cost less and I now have two ML bodies instead of just one. Thanks for reminding me that I made the right choice!
@@RunNGunPhoto Cheers, man! I highly recommend the full spectrum mod, especially since Kolari has a UV/IR cut filter (Hot Mirror 2) that does an excellent job at allowing you to shoot conventional photographs again. One further tip, I've learned that full spectrum conversion is particularly more economical on a ML body rather than DSLR because they allow the use of clip-in filters which are basically one size fits all.
im shooting on the 250D/SL3 the last 2 years and i look for a step into FF and a better camera over all (espacially AF). You have to try it out the 40 1.2 for z mount it is an excellent lens. The other great one is the 58 1.4 but you have to use the FTZ adapter. Olá, amigo. eu quero entregar as fotos na hora do evento. Fazer as fotos do batizado e entregar umas 50/70 fotos pra cliente ainda na igreja. Entende? Sem edição. Sem computador. Usando o nfc ou wi fi para transferir pro celular. Um amigo tem a Sony a7 e faz isso muito bem. Consigo fazer esse processo bem e rapidamente com a z6ii?
do also many jobs with it, but always with strobes. All the af chatter is weird, it is such a non issue. The af just is right every time when photographing people. TTL with constantly changing light in a mixed light environment is a 100 times greater problem for every camera I used and know.
I do a lot of strobe work as well, and they always come out sharp. I haven't used TTL much. My portrait subjects are typically stationary and my lighting ratios are locked in manually.
I was out to buy the Z f but was put off by its size and weight. Esp when I compared with the Z6(II). Yet they only differ 35 grams. But the size makes the difference. I think the Z6 is a great second body next to my Z9....
Does anyone know Z6 or sony a7iii would be better? I'm going to be do portraits, a little landscape and events. I do care about low light performances and cheap lens (as this is just a hobby).
Nikon raw weak processing on Lightroom. I'm facing this colour issue with the D750 and Z5 & Z50. Nikon must work for that. overall best camera for portrait Photography.
Fintanto ci saranno fotografi che non correranno dietro ad ogni novità la. Nikon z6 sarà ottima anche nel 2100 anzi sarà più di quanto molti fotografi sapranno fare.
@@RunNGunPhoto: Ahem! The Nikon Z7, Z7II, D3, D800, D810, D850, D4, D4s…and as Stanislav states 5x4 ratio was thee aspect ratio for studio photographers working for glossy magazines such as Voque. The 5:4 aspect ratio is much easier to print up than 4:3 ratio that is common on Canon, Olympus and Panasonic cameras. But almost to vindicate my complaint, The Fuji XT-5 and Leica SL cameras have 5:4 ratio available. The Canon 5DS/R has 5:4 aspect ratio available, just not as shot. I rest my case. Nikon were just being difficult not including this ratio on the Z6. Pointless crippling of the camera.
@@RunNGunPhoto i owned a z7 mark 1 last year. The focus was average at best. Same goes for the Z6. My d810 was far more accurate. I now shoot with a Z7ii and a Z8. What a vast improvement.

th-cam.com/video/gP9ZUdRGFhI/w-d-xo.html
But if you don't want to print laaaarge posters, the Z6 should be enough for you....I'm a professional and i don't need the Z7 :) Its a lot more expensive, but not that much better ;)
@@jafo5424 You're absolutely right! The Z7 was almost too much camera for me haha.
That's why I opted for the Z6 instead. :)
I bought the Z6 in 2023 and it will survive with me in 2024 😊 crazy camera
Yes, the Z6 is great and will last you many years into the future! Glad you have one as well!
Don't forget to subscribe for more Z6 content. 😊
I have the Nikon Z6II and I absolutely love it. I don’t really shoot my D800 and D810 anymore!
Absolutely; just don't get rid of your D810 just yet! So many people regret selling theirs.
Is it still a good buy for a 2nd hand z6 with 51000 frames taken?
Does it still take photos? Then yes.
Olá, amigo. eu quero entregar as fotos na hora do evento. Fazer as fotos do batizado e entregar umas 50/70 fotos pra cliente ainda na igreja. Entende?
do also many jobs with it, but always with strobes.
Did they fix the eye af not focusing properly and back focusing. I sold my z6 for z6 2.
I never had that issue to be honest.
I was out to buy the Z f but was put off by its size and weight. Esp when I compared with the Z6(II). Yet they only differ 35 grams. But the size makes the difference. I think the Z6 is a great second body next to my Z9....
Too light? Too Heavy?
@@RunNGunPhoto Z6 felt light and small Zf felt big and heavy
Interesting, I'll have to reach out to Nikon and see if they'll let me test a Zfc.
@@RunNGunPhoto The Z f. Not the Zfc. You will probably like it.
Ahh okay, haven't tried that one either.
D750 is still great in 2024
That is correct!
I can't wait to get one
You won't regret it! The Nikon Z6 is a stellar camera! :)
I still use my Z6
I do as well! What do you primarily shoot?
@@RunNGunPhoto Well thats landscape photography. Have a look 🙂👍
I just found your channel, thanks! 👍
Does anyone know Z6 or sony a7iii would be better? I'm going to be do portraits, a little landscape and events. I do care about low light performances and cheap lens (as this is just a hobby).
Neither is better. Both are capable of equally good photos with some skill.
@@RunNGunPhotowhich lens system would be better for the money now and the future? Is Nikon cheaper for a comparable lens?
I personally think Nikon is the best bang for the buck depending on what country you’re from.
@@RunNGunPhoto thank you for the response!
I didn't know obi wan Kenobi from attack of the clones did TH-cam vids.. 😎 I love my z6 with my little 28mm lens. 😍
Hahaha, I've been getting a lot of "Daryl" from Walking Dead and Jax Teller from Sons of Anarchy. 😂 🤣
But I'll definitely take Kenobi!
its the backslick that makes it Kenobi. ;) @@RunNGunPhoto
@@davidsundbaumphoto I'll have to use my lightsaber for more low-light footage tests I think!⚔
Did nikon z6 have eye autofocus on video mode?
I talk about this in the video @ 4:00
"fits in your pocket"
>shows the most absolute unit of a pocket ahahah
Should i buy z6 or z5????
Not sure. Depends what you're doing with it.
Are you in Detroit? Nice logos in the background
Born & raised in Detroit. I've been all around the USA at this point haha.
@@RunNGunPhoto I’m in metro Detroit as well. Macomb
@@ericrjennings Nice! I miss it sometimes haha, I'd love to visit again soon.
Nikon raw weak processing on Lightroom. I'm facing this colour issue with the D750 and Z5 & Z50. Nikon must work for that. overall best camera for portrait Photography.
What issue are you having? Tons of people shoot Nikon and are doing just fine...
z6 launch price was already 2.7k USD, nikon really needed that 200$ for the prores upgrade 💀
I would've paid $200 for the upgrade in the Z6...
Fintanto ci saranno fotografi che non correranno dietro ad ogni novità la. Nikon z6 sarà ottima anche nel 2100 anzi sarà più di quanto molti fotografi sapranno fare.
I certainly agree! Viva la Z6!
@@RunNGunPhoto How cool that you attracted users from Italy. :)
@juliettemansour absolutely! :)
The Z6 is just bloody annoying not having the 5:4 aspect ratio. And still doesn’t have this feature on the over-priced but barely upgraded Z6II?
That's an odd request... I'm not sure what cameras shoot at 5:4. I can't think of a single camera that has this feature to be honest.
@@RunNGunPhotoany large format 4x5 and 8x10. It’s quite a common ratio, nothing odd here
@@RunNGunPhoto: Ahem!
@@DessieTots Crop? Such a simple solution...
That's all it would be in camera anyhow because it's not a 5:4 sensor.
It depends on what you shoot. I shoot BIF, nature, sports, etc so it’s not that good.
Not sure what BIF is, but I’ve shot plenty of nature and fast action with the Z6 with no issues.
@@RunNGunPhoto birds in flight
Any camera is better than no camera!!! Hq
Well, yes lol....
Only if you can get one for under 500 dollars.
It's definitely worth more than that...
@@RunNGunPhoto hardly, the focus is poor. one card slot. more suseptable to banding. the mark ii bodies are a much better purchase.
@@castieldiallo2945 Not sure what you're shooting with it, but the focus is fine. These are non-issues.
@@RunNGunPhoto i owned a z7 mark 1 last year. The focus was average at best. Same goes for the Z6. My d810 was far more accurate. I now shoot with a Z7ii and a Z8. What a vast improvement.
Strange... I'm not sure what you're doing with it, but I have a D810 as well. Its AF doesn't perform as well, especially in low light, in my opinion. The Z6 & Z7 were far superior.
Its 2023...
For about 8 more days...
This camera will be great even 10 years into the future
Absolutely true!
