For me nowadays the location makes 50% of the experience i think. i passed on several concerts lately just because the tourorganization booked a place that initally was build for sportevents f.e. The Funkhaus i think is the best location i ever been to. Seeing Niels there was mind blowing. looking forward to oktober. :)
im in love with this guy. ive never heard anything like him. his speech and his music. he is so deep and aware and in touch with the deep pulse of this existence. thanks you, nils! i saw you in concert and totally turned to a pile of mush...in a good way :)
I saw this man perform live last week. It was an experience like no other. He is without a doubt a musical genius, perhaps even the Beethoven of our generation.
I've been thinking in similar terms about Nils for a while, too. As Beethoven did throughout his career by constantly sending feedback to piano manufacturers, Nils is also pushing the piano as an instrument and piano music forward by for example working with piano manufacturer David Klavins in creating the tallest of its kind yet. Only think of the possibilities of such colossal piano! Nils is questioning the piano design and rethinking it, Klavins made this UnaCorda exemplar for him which he took on his last tour. Is not pretentious to compare him with Beethoven but actually just a bar we have to size the impact of Nils' music today, when is hard to find ground-shaking ideas and fresh sounds. (That being said, the whole bunch signed under Nils' record label, Erased Tapes, are all worth listening to and all have quite unique sounds).
💜 I am so inspired by this music ... so inspired by this artist. I got reminded of Björks song Yoga "State of emergency is where I want to be ..." when he spoke about the danger of being in loss of control while performing. Yes, that's so true ...
"once the album is finished, it destroys all the other possible albums which were in the making..." this is so true for any person who does any type of art. as an artist you make that close to 100% subjective decision "I think people will like and I kinda like it" and lock that huge amount of creativeness somewhere in your head, pc, external hdd
just discovered this dude and his understanding on how a place influences music is fantastic as that is what makes me love music so much. experiencing a mosh pit in a dive bar, listening to throat singers that trained in the mountains, electronic music in an abandoned warehouse, these are special things that we are all lucky to experience.
Except, this is not an abandoned warehouse, it's the sound studio of old East Germany’s GDR. And Frahm is one artist occupying a *custom-built* studio in the vast complex. :P (I agree that the soul of one's music is the what makes it worth listening to...)
I recorded many albums in that studio(P4),and all I can say is,what a waste...this place is perfect for recording bands(in my case it was jazz and contemporary music). Not so much for a monophone sequencer track. But still, all the best. That's the reality of today
There's no fucking music to make, you idiot dolt. There's no fucking instruments. There's no freedom. There's no one to play for. And there's no money in it, playing on streets or in studios bc we're not that good. :/
Eben.
imagine Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz in one room together with a few grand pianos and a few synths, that would, in my mind. make for fun results, each of them being as proficient on the piano as they are on synths…
Just saw for first time...amazing! Truly a gifted pianist and musician. The mix of electronic with classical was truly unique. Wish more people could hear him and appreciate great music ( less kanye and beyonce please).
He uses Cubase, he's done a video with Steinburg explaining why he likes it. Also, the laptop is for plug-ins. He once did an interview saying it was impossible to transport some of the equipment, though the computer reliance is being phased out.
Actually,I think he is using a laptop as a sequencer. Also, it is possible to send clock input from a cubase to Juno's arpeggiator (just electrical signals for arp rhythm). Im pretty sure he is using midi to Juno on his fantastic track called "All melody". What a great musician...Inspiration bomb :D
The Funkhaus is an ultra pretentious, smokey (yes, smoking indoors like it's 1976), suffocating venue with no seats - yes, you stand for 3 hour mind-numbing performances.. populated by psuedo-hipsters who are allergic to smiling and think that anything different is better, even if it's unequivocally bad. Been there twice (just because I thought the first impression was wrong), both times were a torture. Never again.
It is filmed soooo well!!! Big thanks to the filming crew.
Gives me chills every time I watch it. Did see it a lot of times!
This version of Sunson is INSANE!
Indeed I was thinking the same. Incredible how many variations he gets for one piece

LIKED THE TWERK!
"We live in a digital world which is not free, but we could live in a real world which is not free, right, but at least it's real." Word :) One love47

hoffM83n you nailed it .......this is great stuff

Check out his album called Spaces it's mind blowing from start to end.
@Alexandru Neagu
i know:) just referring to the beautiful experiences people can have in rave culture. his setup is obviously fantastic
I recorded many albums in that studio(P4),and all I can say is,what a waste...this place is perfect for recording bands(in my case it was jazz and contemporary music).
Not so much for a monophone sequencer track.
But still,all the best.
That's the reality of today
The kind of video you go make music after watching :)

Visionary ... the world needs more of you Nils !!
From 5'57" when he started to speak about concentration in making music, he was so accurate ! Great question by the interviewer
Saw him for the forth time two days ago at Funkhaus. It's great to see his progression as an artist.
Who are you to judge and have expectations
kaloresiblu I'm entitled to my own opinion.
"Something like white noise, but more emotional white noise". There is hope for the future!
wow... a true musical hero, Nils Frahm...
I saw you in Bristol. Feel so grateful of being there. Such a Genius
Just saw him over the weekend in Philadelphia...great gig!

THIS IS SO COOL
Fantastic film! Thank you for sharing!
funkhaus is such a great space
Great video! merci Crack and Nils!
Is there somewhere this live footage and sound used in the video without the cut-in-interview stuff?? would be great.
Sublime
Crack Magazine, would you please help and get the soundtrack of this video released as is - i think it's the best version of Nils' Sunson there is!
That rhodes piano near the end is pure gold.
Can someone share this version of "Sunson" music track?
really nice

Please add all the tracks featured in the video

imagine Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz in one room together with a few grand pianos and a few synths, that would, in my mind. make for fun results, each of them being as proficient on the piano as they are on synths…
title song at 11.00??? Huge work
Loris Spinsante the song is Sunson, a new track from the new album All Melody
yes i know but there are a lot of differences :) this part (in the video) is more "chill" and "harmonic"
I heard it as well. I think this is the live version, often a bit different from the original. It is a beautiful piece of music!
name of the song???
Sunson
could you guys post this version?
do it!!
Someone give that man a lighter.
Just saw for first time...amazing! Truly a gifted pianist and musician. The mix of electronic with classical was truly unique. Wish more people could hear him and appreciate great music ( less kanye and beyonce please).
I found this annoying GENIOUS a few weeks ago, and now I cant go back... FRAK!!! ; )
Thanks to digital he's able to do these performances. I see his point though.
its all analog bro
I believe he uses Ableton live, and I can see a laptop bro.
He uses Cubase, he's done a video with Steinburg explaining why he likes it. Also, the laptop is for plug-ins. He once did an interview saying it was impossible to transport some of the equipment, though the computer reliance is being phased out.

He looked far cooler when he didn't dress like Derren Brown hahaha
и нормальные люди не дергаются, когда слушают или играют музыку. выглядит тупо

Creator's Remorse shut up, Sulu
Do you know why there are no seats?
