#SoiréeDePoche #PocketParty
Nils Frahm playing a show in a Parisian Apartment for La Blogotheque series "Soirées de Poche"
"We showed him the piano; it was as if we were introducing someone to him to the first time. He lifted the lid, hit a couple of keys, smiled and murmured, "He's got character". Later: "He's unpredictable. I like it". He played a little more, and called out to us once more: "Hmm... there's a slight chance that I might break it. I get excited sometimes." We didn't tell this to our hosts; instead, we crossed our fingers."
The whole story is here :

I am so glad I found this again. One of his best works.
Nils Frahm made an album called 'Felt', in which he put a cloth made of felt over the strings to be quieter for his neighbours. That whole album is recorded with felt on the strings, that's why he performs the same way.
This is one of those shows that makes you forget to breathe.
***** Yes! His shows are always breathtaking :))! Such a humble, down to earth and beautiful human being too. Dear everyone, if you ever hear of an upcoming show, drop everything, book tickets and be excited! To watch him perform is.......................... :)))!!!
+Nitin Katiyar 19 April 2016 in Paradiso Amsterdam I have tickets, Yes.
I love the title so much. The first meaning of ''Poche'' is ''Pocket''. And we often use it in a metaphorical way to speak about something so little that it could enter a pocket. For example ''a pocket computer'' would mean ''a tiny computer''.
But what you got to know is that ''poche'' can also be used in a familiar way to describe someone full of alcohol. And if you put the words ''night'' and ''pocket'' together, the first meaning that comes to my mind is ''a night of drunkard''.
that is awesome, thanks
In a way you re right .. to clarify ... "poche" is not really related to alcohol ... in french we say "pochetron" which is very familiar and means "drunkard" ... but "poche" can also mean "tiny" indeed ... so i think the meaning of the tittle is something like "tiny (or intimate) party" . For info "poche" also means "plastic bag" in the South of France.
Hearing the same note for two minutes creates repetition and ultimately boredom. But when other notes are introduced, it changes the way we perceive the first note. And because the new notes are fresh, they really stand out in the mind.
I think.
I think you just defined techno music basics ;P
Lovely piano song by the way.
What a surprise, I love my techno!
That's what fascinates me about 'minimalist' electronic music, it's all about the subtleties!
Sam AK if you listen closely, you'll notice that he's altering different aspects of that one note like timbre with the pedal and changing up his attack; more subtleties!
Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews
I hadn't noticed, now I have..!
I enjoy doing that with a simple midi controller and soft synths, mapping rotary controls to the ADSR envelope and just jamming for ages.
Music, I don't quite know what would fill the void if we didn't have it
Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews
After 15 secs you wonder....then the resonances meld into almost "the 3rd ear" ingenious stuff.
"I don’t believe we have ever filmed such an intense connection between a musician and their instrument."
I get excited sometimes." We didn't tell this to our hosts; instead, we crossed our fingers." | thank you about that ;)
I never heard a pianist who would feel the instrument the way Nils feels it. he's my role model. pure delight
not bad, but i don't see such beauty, with delay and arpeggios everything is breathtaking
WTF...! I never heard of this guy before, He's pure genius! Got to see him live!
You must see MULL of OA, too !
Have you seen him live by now? I have twice and about to go for the third time. The most blissful times of my life
I have to know the song he's playing at 21:11. It's funky!
Open new pathways, think different, express what you are feeling and live it
La segunda pieza la siento como lágrimas en la lluvia que el silencio del corazón preludia que nos envuelve y refresca sacando a la luz ese rincón de oscuridad que nos asola y repudia...
Sonidos y música vibrante y brillante...!
He repeats the tone at the start as a sort of hypnosis, it's a prelude, according to La Blogoteque the opening drone put one of the children in the apartment to sleep. That's what he wanted.
He is telling story. I hear Nils
Hello from 24 -09-2020! awesome emotions from this music stream!!
25min out of this world...really
Merci la blogothèque pour ce superbe moment. Honest, strong, simple and genius...
0:00 Said and Done
9:00 Idk??????????
18:20 More
21guitarworld "went missing"
9:00 Toilet brush
His music sounds quite provoking and serene at the same time!
I can't believe no one in that audience noticed the differences in this version of 'Said and Done' to cheer as per his request.
Did not want this to end.
At fist i was like wow this is so cool, then i was like: 'wait this is just a 4-chord song'. But during the song, and how it progresses in your brain, i was like: 'this is why i follow LaBlogotheque'. i love you all.
Nah western culture is great too, but if you listen to a piece of minimalist music and start criticizing it for being repetitive, you're missing the point all together
I hummed throughout the song. It felt very nice.
The overtone coming out of that piano is amazing!!!!!
The emphasis of the SAME note played over 400 times is tough to get beyond. Repetition has a purpose, but anything Overdone ruins a work, at least for me.
been coming back to hear this for so long... touches me every time.
Really great stuff my friends! Nils is like the new Philip Glass :)
Myskox W Hardly. He's Ludovico Einaudi for hipsters.
jaajaj metal is a crappy pop with distortion
@@jorgeparedesaponte4045 your statement is too broad, there are so many sub genres that don't rely on catchy riffs and/or repetition like pop.
No way dude, that intro is amazing. Super repetitive, but weren't you playing your own melodies in your head during it?
Mozart of our times because like him he's free!
The point isn't repetition, it's continuousness. The use of the drone is actually rather common in various genres and cultures of music around the world.
This is too perfect for words...
You have to respect what the artist is doing with this song. It's not too long in the start for nothing,if you're bored so fast and judge a song by a repeated note, maybe this music isn't for you. He's building the song that way,so that when the melody comes it feels more distinct and present.
Lovely music.
If you love this music style I recommend you to check out Olafur Arnalds, Nit Project and Dustin O'halloran.
i used to do this with my piano when i was a kid and my dad told me to knock it off
if you use firefox, just look in the addon menu somewhere near the settings, search for "downloader" or "youtube" directly there, i think, install and use that bitch. There is also a website called google to figure stuff like that.. or everything imaginable else they say.. but dont ask me how to get there, i am not that far yet
I see a lot of Philipp Glass in him, am I wrong?
I don't even know what to say...
...but I think for once, that might be the correct response, to say nothing at all.
I have no words to express myself
Minunat!
trebuie sa ii asculti toata discografia
This piece brought me to tears the first time I heard it. I come back to it and listen to it in different situations and each time it has a different story to tell.
The hands ask the questions and the piano replies.
Thank you for posting this marvellous piece
I love the resonance from 1:30 onwards. It's like the new notes he's playing are phasing with the old ones still being produced by the piano.
Super cool Thanks Nils this is absolutely awesome
I just came back from a journey. It was lovely.
That moment when you finally understand a piece of music.
I keep meaning to switch this off. 9 minutes in and can't bring myself to leave it.
Our western culture is so obsessed with numbers, we tend to think of technique and structure in terms of quantity, in terms of how many times a particular motive is used or note played, when in reality the effect of pieces like this is the realization that we may number and catalog every detail of the universe to infinity, but it all amounts to the same unified whole. To one.
LaBlogotheque, you've done it again.
Wow!
And someone is more talented than Chilly Gonzales; what's your point? Don't be pretentious, it's a terrible trait.
30 years ago when I was a little kid, I often visited my grandmother. She had a big apartment with lots of rooms and fascinating things. She also had an old piano which I loved to just look at and play on. I never learned to play it correctly though, wish I had. This sounds just like her piano. I miss her.
Truly one of TH-cam's greatest treasures.
Sometimes words are not enogh to describe feelings. Thanks.
The electric piano part was intense. I love this man. Any chance on having Olafur Arnalds or Nico Muhly in one of your sessions?
FODA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing performance! wish I was there :) ohh I just love the sound of Rhodes...
more beautiful than can ever be described
Der Tremolo Vollbadkuenstler im Staccato Rausch
yeah ill subscribe based off this one video...gods above its been a while since i've felt anything remotely close to this. merci nils fram et la blogotheque

Go Nils, go. I feel you.
TH-cam decides it wants to make money from ad-free subscriptions...forces me to watch 3 minutes of advertising for each video. Thanks TH-cam. Annoy people into paying you. Great business model.
I love his "Spaces" album!
anyone knows the songs' titles?
17:00 magnificent
Absolutely fabulous!!!! ❤️
holy cow that was gripping. beaut
impresionante
...and I notice there is always an interloper, watching closely, every move Nils makes. WTF? Do they think his talent will rub off on them, if they get close enough?! No. You learn by DOING boys and girls. It's called the 'Hands-On' technique. Work, or Practice til you are blue in the face! Haa HaaaaaaH!
Lindo!!
9:30 It's so beautiful
Nils just came to Fair-field, IA and played a small show during our First Friday's ArtWalk Festival. We enjoyed have Nils Frahm and when he releases more music, we wish to have him back. He is a delightful pianist and I will always purchase his music (never pirating). I am a true fan.
this made me cry.... I am not even joking...
I recall Pete Townshend's album Homelife or Real Life when his one side is centered around, "One Note Is Best" theme. Take a listen...or not.
Like picking your own chords to go along with the repetitive note. It was obvious he was going to start playing something more, but I was imagining what he might do. Just imagining melodies to that one single note.
Try watching Baumgartner´s jump at the same time.
It´s like a match made in heaven :)
The crowd's reaction at the end is somehow boring. If I would have been there, I think I would have gone crazy. That moment was magical and I wonder if people there realize!
Always a pleasure ✌
His thumb must be so buff
I saw this guy last year when he came to Mexico. His performance made my heart pump so much till tears came down my face. I was crazy in emotion. He is one of the most sensible, talented persons Ive seen.
Just saw this in boulder. Love his playing so much, its so much better in person-- this video is great though.
You guys shot the performance so well. Props!
Good question, I would hope so!
but it's also great if he's making room for more artists to film.
this is so brilliant !
This is music, this is heart. Only when you can feel the instrument and become one whole
Trying.. so hard.. not to get into that void of musical wonderfulness. Cannot resist much longer.
I could listen to it again and again, and again, and again...
hastasıyız şu atmosferin
No one cheered on the new part
Jordan Miller I cheered at home! :))
+Nitin Katiyar Yep me too!
It's time to make the same thing with MULL of OA !
does anyone know the names of these songs?
❤
singing.
❤🎉❤
amazing!!!
Olafur Arnalds.
I don't know much about pianos, but this must be to damp the sound.
Great perspective, your comment adds more color to this piece.
